How to take Advil Liqui-Gels???
I was wondering, how should I take Advil Liqui-gels? Do i just swallow it with water, or chew it up in my mouth first? I am kinda cautious about using them, as I have always had a phobia about pills.
Thanks for the help. I'm just gonna wait for my headache to subside...can't swallow it. lol.

just place in the back of your mouth, and swallow with some water. Don't chew it, it doesn't taste very good, and it will be hard to get that taste out of your mouth.

Does it have to be in one of these clear orange pill boxes because this is a problem, i don't have one so I put it in a box of advil liqui gels. I'm just worried will the pills melt or get damaged in any way?

Nothing provided the Advil gels don't break,if they do thy can dissolve the Ritalin.Best put them in the original container, but certainly don't mix them with liquid medications

I don't think anything will happen to the Ritalin.
The problem is that someone could take the Ritalin thinking it's the Advil. I have quite a few empty pill bottles. If I lived near you I would let you have a few. Try to keep that bottle in a safe place so nobody will make a mistake. I hope you are doing OK. Good Luck.

Can I take Nyquil Cold and Flu in the evening if i took Advil Liqui-Gels this morning?
I took two advil liqui-gels at about noon today and its not about 6:35 pm. headache is gone but im feeling like i have a cold. coughing, runny nose, sneezing and congestion. last time i had a cold i took nyquil and it worked well. i just want to make sure its safe to take this now since i took some advil earlier in the day.

Yes, Advil is ibuprofen and the ingredient in Nyquil is acetaminophen,
plus the medicines for cough, and sneezing and all that.My only warning is not to take it then try to drive or anything like that. I would take it lay back with some warm soup or tea and relax.....

What amount of consumption of Advil Liqui-Gels would constitute an serious overdose?
I have a fever, nausea and am quite miserable. I have taken a more heavy and regular amount of Advil Liqui-Gels than recommended on the box. How much would constitute a -serious- overdose?

I have inflammatory arthritis so I take a medication which is the same chemical structure as Advil (Ibuprofen). From my experience, the maximum dosage you should be taking, with the authority of a doctor, is 600mg every 4 hours at the soonest, and avoid taking it until you need it if possible!

why not try actually reading the label on a box of advil to figure out the active ingredients, and then looking up that active ingredient online?

you don't want people to judge you, but, you expect others to just hand you the information you need for a science project without saying a word about WHY you are demanding the information, or passing judgment on you for asking the question?

this is what wikipedia says:
The words acetaminophen and paracetamol come from the chemical names for the compound: para-acetylaminophenol and para-acetylaminophenol. The brand name Tylenol also derives from this name: para-acetylaminophenol. In some contexts, it is shortened to APAP, for N-acetyl-para-aminophenol.

so it's very likely paracetamol. i'd recommend throwing out pills that you don't know for sure.

Are Advil brands different in their formula?
I know Advil and Ibuprofen are the same thing. However, I've taken the same dosage of Ibuprofen as I would Advil and it had no effect. I have also done the same with Advil Liquid Gels and they too had no effect. Brown Advil tablets usually do the trick. Is there any particular reason why brown Advil only works?

PS. Please don't suggest to take Tylenol instead. It too does absolutely nothing.

Strong medication for migraines?
I suffer from chronic migraines, but haven't really gotten anything prescribed to me because my mother has migraines as well. Somehow, she doesn't care if I have them or not. Anyways, I've been swallowing all different types of Advil over the past few days (Liqui-Gels, Extra Strength, regular...etc) and nothing has worked.

I have to be able to play tennis in about an hour and a half. I play in an academy, so we have to be alert, focused, and aggressive.

I'm wondering if zolmitriptan (Zomig) works because I have it in my house. Also, can you mix it with energy drinks because I got barely any sleep last night?

DO NOT take Zomig unless it was prescribed for you. Zomig is a triptan. They are known to have different effects on different people. Even though I am healthy with NO heart problems triptan stopped my heart. If I hadn't been in the emergency room when they gave it too me I would be dead!
You need to be seen by a good doctor for your migraines. Your mom obviously gets help or there would not be Zomig in your house. Insist that you see a doctor soon! The only thing I can suggest now is to drink a coke. The coke syrup may help with any nausea that often comes with a migraine and the caffeine will help the other pills, ibuprofen etc. work better.

Zomig works for some people, I had it in the nose spray form....eww....it's horrible and I don't recommend it. I can't remember trying it in a pill form. They have whats called MaxAlt. It's a melt away tablet and it usually works in a half hour. I personally think the imitrex shots work the best, or at least they do for me. I've tried it in a pill form and that didn't work and I also have tried the nose spray of it too, it's Absolutely discusting when it's running down the back of your throat, I mean come on your already sick to your stomach with the migraine nyway, ya know. For bad headaches (before i break out the shot) I take 3 ex strength excedrin and 2 ex strength tylenol...you can take it with a pop a lot of the time caffeine helps....then lay down for a half hour. If that doesn't work you need something stronger. With the excedrin and tylenol, you can't wait till you have a full blown out mmigraine take it when you start to get a headache. Good Luck!!

Advil Liquid Gels vs. Midol for Period?
I have always taken 2-3 Advil (or ibuprofen) every 4-5 hours when I am having my period. I get really bad cramps (so bad I get sick to my stomach and throw up on occasion). This time around I've got really bad bloating, too. My friend is getting married tomorrow and I need to get rid of the bloating.

Advil seems to help a little with it, but more with the cramps. How does Midol work in relation to Advil for Cramps and Bloating? I need the strong pain killer, but need more bloat killer (lol). Any help would be appreciated to anything else I can do.

Well I use Advil, but I don't get that bloating. Never have. I'm a teen so I don't really want to buy some midol because we don't have any in the house.

I would say that your best would have to be Midol because it is especially made for period pains, cramps, bloating. It works very effectively. Sometimes Advil doesn't work for me.

You can get addicted to sleeping pills. I know this because I used to take tylenol pm at night sometimes to help me sleep but after a while you need it to even be able to fall asleep and it sucks not being able to fall asleep.

Possible overdose, with questions a day later?
Well, yesterday I had taken 5 Advil liqui-gels for a migraine (not a blind dosage, I have been taking advil for a long while, dr said 4 was ok, and I had previously taken many more than that without any adverse affects, so I figured I was in the clear), but then 2 hours later took some prescription pain pills (mostly just to put me to sleep). It was a stupid mistake, by that time I had completely forgotten I had taken any advil. Anyway, they were 2 Darvocet100. Didn't help me sleep any, wound up staying up too late, but woke up 2 hours after I'd fallen asleep, about 9 hours after ingesting the darvocet, and I was getting bad hot/cold flashes and having really weird dreams, but I wasn't asleep for them...I would say hallucinations, but that sounds extreme. Also had a splitting headache the whole next day, and started throwing up a couple hours after I had woken up. I was then nauseous the next day, and all of today as well. Also have been having awful digestive issues along with the nausea. Diarrhea and that fun stuff.

And here is where I know I drop even further down the IQ chart:

Went to a friend's house the day after the possible overdose incident, for a drinking party. Noticed some muscle pain, like lactic acid from exercising, but ya'know without the actual muscle work involved. Anyway, I googled that and found that dehydration can cause it (which is caused by alcohol), so that's not any huge concern of mine, just throwing it in for information's sake. Been feeling really sleepy lately too, can easily sleep for 18 hours a day, and still be tired upon waking (and not for lack of waking up. That's 18 hours despite people trying to wake me up, and the 14 alarms I set every night for myself. I don't sleep 18 hrs often, I usually drag myself out of bed after the 12 hr mark. But still, always exhausted.) But for the record, I don't believe the tiredness is due to any pill issues, and it has been lingering for quite a while now, months even. Again, for information's sake.

Just wondering if anyone can offer insight on whether or not this could be an overdose, or bad combination, or just any help you would be able to provide. And I do not need any lectures on my awful, awful pill habits and all that jazz. Drinking is a very rare occassion too, so no prolonged drinking complications are a possibility.

It's possible that your muscle pain has been caused by extra tension that was diminished or went previously unnoticed because of the over-the-counter/painkiller use.

The hot flashes, chills and weird dreams are all common symptoms of withdrawal. It's possible that this is what you experienced.

You're tiredness and high level of fatigue/exhaustion could be totally unrelated or hand-in-hand. You might also want to check psychological disorders (such as depression) which are causing your restlessness (which is what I'm assuming you have since you took some pills to go to sleep), as well as your tiredness.

How often are you taking "downers" to rest? if it's often, your low energy could be due to a side effect of sleeping pills/muscle relaxers etc...called "morning sedation." It simply means that under the influence of these medications, once the user rises, or is awakened, they experience of marked sleepiness and fatigue caused by the body remaining in a prolog used sleep mode even when it's awake. Meaning your body isn't fully awake even after being out of bed. This can last anywhere from 20 mins to 1 1/2hrs+

If you find you are tired, frequently yawning throughout the day, and possess lack of interest in activities, you would want to refer back to my earlier suggestion of depression or even a glandular or neurological issue.

This is kinda embarassing, but when i get my period i get EXTREMELY bad cramps, and once i even had to stay home from school because of it. I've tried Midol and it didn't work at all. I usually take Advil liquid gels, but they recently stopped working and I don't know what to do. Should i go to the doctor to get medicine? By the way, I'm only a teenager.

Yes you should. I had the same problem for many years and my mom kept insisting that it was normal. Then I finally went to the doctor and they put me on birth control and now I have no problem at all. Tell your mom that you want to go. Birth control is the first method they try and it works wonders.

Read the label, that's what it's there for. Definitely do not take more than 3 doses per day. Do not use for more than 2 weeks. If you take sleeping pills often, you should probably see a doctor or search for other types of remedies like self-hypnosis or guided imagery.

Hot showers do help but what i use is something u can buy at a store. Its likeeee an icy hot patch. They're in the same isle but its used for cramps. It gives you 8 hours of heat and helps A LOTTTTT. Therapudic i believe makes it. I hope it helps!

Something that has been really helpful, but it is only temporary (or as temporary as the person lets it be) is recieving a lower back rub.
My boyfriend is really good to me when he knows I'm cramping, and it helps A LOT when he rubs my lower back - the pain goes away COMPLETELY, but only until he stops the rubbing.

I don't see how this would be too helpful at 2AM, but if you're having a friend sleepover and/or if you have a boyfriend and are with him at those times, maybe you can get them to give you a back rub?
(I don't like flooding body with medication, so I usually resort to something external rather than internal).

Also, the heating pad will work, and have similar effects to a hot bath (which REALLY works)!

Yes it's okay to take Advil PM and Midol together. Advil's active ingredient is ibuprofen (Motrin) whereas Midol's active ingredient is acetaminophen (Tylenol). I recommend that you take them at least 1/2 hour apart though so it's not too hard on your liver.

I have no idea what it is, but I have been getting it for about two years, myself. The doctors look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them what happens. It happens with ibuprofen or aspirin.

I hadn't taken it in a while, but I hurt ankle and decided to take it again last night. Here I am again, today, with chest pains and a rapid heart rate.

It sounds like upper digestive problems....as you know, both ibuprofen and aspirin can be very hard on the stomach....if you have some problem that hasn't shown symptoms, like an erosion on the esophagus or stomach ulcer, it could be the advil is putting you over the top and the pain is coming from that. I know from my own experience that it can totally feel like a heart attack! Sharp pain right at the heart extending into the back....nasty. Anyway, please be responsible and seek care when you feel you may be having a heart attack.

I took some advil cold and it helped the sinus pressure and runny nose but I still have a killer headache. The active ingredients in Advil are ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine and in excedrin acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. I can't find any helpful articles on google. Thanks.

It is usually not the best option to mix and match medicines like that. I would wait to take the Excedrin until the cold medicine has worn off, just to be safe. There's just too many different ingredients here to make a safe cocktail.

If you really need relief, you could call up a pharmacist and try asking them what else you could try, or how long to wait.

Why do I get better sleep when I take Advil PM?

It is a known fact that you cannot sleep well when you are tense. You have to be somewhat relaxed to get a good nights rest and when you are feeling some sort of discomfort you tend to be awake in a sense. It's like having someone shaking you to wake you. Or try staying asleep in a car on a very bumpy road. You can't do it.
Advil tends to relax your muscles so you can relax and it may also have some form of medication to help make you drowsy.
Many people have these problems , you are not alone.

Liquids are better absorbed by the body. Pills usually have fillers to make them hard that make the pill not as easily absorbed by the body. A good test is to drop the pill in a cup of water for 15 minutes, if it doesn't dissolve, use a pill crusher when you take the pill in the future and add the powder to half a cup to a cup of water so it will more easily be absorbed by the body.

Is it okay to take Actifed Cold and Allergy with Advil Cold and Sinus?
Actifed C&A does not contain Pseudoephedrine. It's Chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine HCl, which is an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant, respectively. I read somewhere that this is the new reformulated Actifed (I'm guessing that it used to contain Pseudoephedrine).

Advil C&S --> Ibuprofen and Pseudoephedrine

I took Advil C&S around 10 P.M. and it should be taken every 4-6 hours. After 4 hours (2 A.M.), can I start taking Actifed? I've been taking Advil C&S every 4 hours since 10 P.M. last night, so I've been on it for a whole day. I'd like to switch to Actifed. The Advil took care of my muscle aches, but my nose is running like a waterfall. I'm plugging up my nostrils with tissue balls. The post-nasal drip is giving me a sore throat.

Also, since the Actifed does not contain Pseudoephedrine, would it have been okay to take them at the same time if I really had to? I was thinking that it wouldn't be such a good idea because both of them contain nasal decongestants, except one is phenylephrine HCl and the other is Pseudoephedrine.

Yahoo is a risky place to take your health, but yes you can handle both drugs if you are an adult, but I wouldn't make a habit of it. The ingredient in Advil PM that makes you sleep is benedryl. It is an allergy medicine. You can probably buy that at any age for a lot cheaper than Advil. But, you will become dependent on it, maybe even addicted to it.

I tore a ligament in my knee its very painful and i have to sleep with this huge leg brace that goes from my thigh to my ankle. The doc prescribed me Hydrocodone. What is the difference between "Children's Motrin" and "Children's Advil"?
When my children have had a fever the "Children's Motrin" very rarely brings down the fever, and I need to piggy back it with Tylenol. When I use the "Children's Advil" the fever starts to break in 20 min. with no Tylenol. They both are a form of Ibuprofen with the same mls.
Here where we are it is very hard to find the "Children's Advil" in any of the pharmacies or stores.

You are correct that Advil and Motrin are the same product, just different brands of the generic medicine ibuprofin. However, probably the same as with children’s Tylenol (acetominophen), there are different concentration in different preparations so that dosages are completely different depending on if you are using drops, suspensions, elixir or tablets. The most accurate way to determine the correct dose is by the milligrams, not by liquid measure such as teaspoon unless you are sure of the milligram content in the amount and type of liquid you are using.

But you sound well versed in the use of the medication and likely are giving the correct dose. So the next possibility is that separate episodes of illnes create different levels of illness and symptoms and each responds differently to medication and other forms of treating the illness. So an ear infection may respond differently to the medicine than the flu. There are other variables too, such as how well hydrated the child is, what other symptoms are present that the body is fighting, the length of time the symptoms have been present before the med is given, the level of immunity, etc.

You should know that any medication that you take passes through your liver.

This doesn't sound excessive... but it would be better if it was prescribed by a doctor especially since you're young. If you're injured, maybe a break from the sport is what you need.

At least go see a doc about this. He'll let you know.

In fact, call a helpline (Like here in Quebec, we have Info Sante... run from our local clinics. They take phone calls to answer health related questions)

I just found out and called the 800# on the container

I think that's crazy! But then again, that's how we learned in the past. Produce a product, sell it on the market, then 20 years down the road when health hazards start appearing in large numbers, we realize it's not so healthy.

Which is better? Allegra-D or Advil sinus?
For all you allergy sufferers out there do you find that taking Advil cold and sinus works better than Allegra D or Claritin D or even zyrtec D? None of these work for me, and my sinuses are pretty bad during allergy season, but that is the only part that bothers me so all I need is a good decongestant and Allegra zyrtec or claritin dont seem to do the trick, so i was wondering if advil cold and sinus works better?

Do you think I should use midol?
I have my period all through soccer tryouts next week and I want to know if I should use midol. And If I should do you think I get teen, complete,maximum relief, or liquid gels. All i have is bad cramps but just to be on the safe side....?

What worked for me is to watch your diet a week before and during your cycle. Drink lots of water. Avoid pop, sweets, and salt. Sweets, salt, and pop encourage bloating and cramping - which you do not want. During your cycle and if you have cramps, take a pain reliever. I personally use Pamprin or Aleve - Pamprin is meant to be used for periods. Aleve seems to do the job for me most of the time. Take as prescribed on the bottle - don't overdue. As you get older, you will know what to do to make your cycles easier for you.

I'm Schizo-affective, medication I take are .... Lamictal,Prozac,Trilafon, and Klonopin, I also take Trazadone for sleep aid, but I ran out of it untill the 23rd, so now I was wondering would it be ok to take Advil PM for 8 days straight as my sleep aid??? thx

First of all I don't think you should keep it in the fridge.Check with a pharmacy on that,your the first person I've ever heard of who keeps aspirin in the fridge. I and a several other people I know take 4 Advil ,Aleve or extra strength Tylenol etc. all the time and it won't kill you.But depending on how often you do it,it will eventually irritate your stomach.

How long does it take for advil to get into your system?
This morning around 6:30 est i took approximately 21 tablets of 200mg strength advil. How long does it take for this to enter my system? I cant feel anything hurting so i assume it hasnt entered my system, or has it?

The general rule of thumb is around 30 minutes to start working, but I really hope you're not serious about taking 21 pills.
If you DID take 21 pills, you need to get to the ER and get your stomach pumped... it might not kill you right away, but severe liver damage that it could cause can take some time to slowly (and painfully) kill you.

Please help horrible sinus headache that won't go away!!?
For the past few days my sinuses have been insanely bad, I have taken up to 6 advil cold & sinus and advil congestion relief, it didn't help at all. I tried the nasal spray sinus buster, and dayquil sinex, nothing works. it's horrible! what can I do??

If you take it too often, yes. (every day about 1200 mg)

You get a big chance of developing stomach ulcers when you do.
People who are taking these kind of drugs often are most of the times given an extra prescription of omeprazol. That's a drug that regulate the production of acid in your stomach.
That protects them for having that side effect.

Also, the chance of getting kidney/liver dysfunction is bigger.

Paracetamol doesn't have those side effects, so it is safer to take that.

Will it be bad if I take 8 advil cold and sinus instead of 6 in a 24 hour period?
Help. Advil Cold and sinus is only effective for me if I take 2. Right now I have the most miserable cold, and I can't sleep at night now. But I have already taken 6 in the last 24 hours. (The previous day I might have taken more than 6 in 24.... so would it be bad if I did it again?)

probably not a huge abuse, in terms of toxicity, but a small abuse. the liver has to process the ibuprofen, and filter out the solids. over time, it could cause renal problems and or liver damage. if you only do it a couple of times, chances are, you'll be fine and not suffer overly much.
just to be safe, why not just according to directions, though? good luck.

I just took a pill of XYZAL for allergies and to try to help my stuffiness. It has not helped my stuffed nose at all, and it is supposed to work / last for 24 hours. Is it ok to mix this with and take advil cold and sinus?

I've been suffering from some illness for about a week and it seems to be starting to break up. I've been taking the Advil Cold and Sinus to keep the pressure out of my sinuses. However, it's a decongestant. NyQuil is an expectorant, so I'm hoping to take it as well and help the infection purge itself.

My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.

Now I'm not going to try it...well, maybe, not sure yet. Been thinking about it but the answers vary on what actually happens.
Some people say you die. Some say you just get really sick, starting vomiting and stuff, and some say nothing. So what would happen if you took a full bottle of Advil PM Liquid Jells?

well,i did something similar just with normal tylenol.It didnt work at all.Just felt horribly dizzy and i dont remember a week or so after that.
more recently i took more "serious" meds to try and overdose and...It was SO VERY painful..i just ended up sleeping 4 days and not being able to see or hear for a few days.
Dont try it...youll just end up in a far worse situation,trust me.Overdosing is NOT as easy as it seems

I have been taking Advil Cold and Sinus for the past days and am now having difficulties sleeping. I find that just as I am about to fall asleep I am "startled" awake. I see that insomnia is listed as a possible side effect. Could the Advil Cold and Sinus be the cause of this?

Wow! I have been taking Advil Cold & Sinus daily for years now. It's the only thing that works for my allergies. What you describe is EXACTLY what happens to me. I start to fall asleep and if my husband asks a question, I jump out of my sleep. After that, I have a hard time falling back to sleep. It's almost like a power nap happened. I can't say for sure if AC&S is the cause of this but it looks like it!
