How to take Advil Liqui-Gels???
I was wondering, how should I take Advil Liqui-gels? Do i just swallow it with water, or chew it up in my mouth first? I am kinda cautious about using them, as I have always had a phobia about pills.
Thanks for the help. I'm just gonna wait for my headache to subside...can't swallow it. lol.

just place in the back of your mouth, and swallow with some water. Don't chew it, it doesn't taste very good, and it will be hard to get that taste out of your mouth.

Will anything happen to a Ritalin Pills if I store them in a box of advil liqui gels?
Do they have to be in one of these clear orange pill boxes because this is a problem, i don't have one so I put them in a box of advil liqui gels. I'm just worried will the pills melt or get damaged in any way?

I don't think anything will happen to the Ritalin.
The problem is that someone could take the Ritalin thinking it's the Advil. I have quite a few empty pill bottles. If I lived near you I would let you have a few. Try to keep that bottle in a safe place so nobody will make a mistake. I hope you are doing OK. Good Luck.

Yes, Advil is ibuprofen and the ingredient in Nyquil is acetaminophen,
plus the medicines for cough, and sneezing and all that.My only warning is not to take it then try to drive or anything like that. I would take it lay back with some warm soup or tea and relax.....
Sorry you are sick!

What amount of consumption of Advil Liqui-Gels would constitute an serious overdose?
I have a fever, nausea and am quite miserable. I have taken a more heavy and regular amount of Advil Liqui-Gels than recommended on the box. How much would constitute a -serious- overdose?

I have inflammatory arthritis so I take a medication which is the same chemical structure as Advil (Ibuprofen). From my experience, the maximum dosage you should be taking, with the authority of a doctor, is 600mg every 4 hours at the soonest, and avoid taking it until you need it if possible!

How do I take Advil Liqui-Gels?
Do I take Advil Liqui- Gels with water, and do they really help with cramps? Someone suggested that I take them for cramps.

Is it alright to open up an Advil Liqui-Gel and put it in a drink?
I can't take pills, especially ones as big as Liqui-gels for migraines and I need one really bad. Is it okay to put some in some flat pepsi and take it that way?

HELP! Strong migraine medication.?
I suffer from chronic migraines, but haven't really gotten anything prescribed to me because my mother has migraines as well. Somehow, she doesn't care if I have them or not. Anyways, I've been swallowing all different types of Advil over the past few days (Liqui-Gels, Extra Strength, regular...etc) and nothing has worked. What else should I do?

I have to be able to play tennis in about an hour and a half. I play in an academy, so we have to be alert, focused, and aggressive.

I'm wondering if zolmitriptan (Zomig) works because I have it in my house. Also, can you mix it with energy drinks because I got barely any sleep last night?

Thanks.
I have the nasal spay kind.

Zomig works for some people, I had it in the nose spray form....eww....it's horrible and I don't recommend it. I can't remember trying it in a pill form. They have whats called MaxAlt. It's a melt away tablet and it usually works in a half hour. I personally think the imitrex shots work the best, or at least they do for me. I've tried it in a pill form and that didn't work and I also have tried the nose spray of it too, it's Absolutely discusting when it's running down the back of your throat, I mean come on your already sick to your stomach with the migraine nyway, ya know. For bad headaches (before i break out the shot) I take 3 ex strength excedrin and 2 ex strength tylenol...you can take it with a pop a lot of the time caffeine helps....then lay down for a half hour. If that doesn't work you need something stronger. With the excedrin and tylenol, you can't wait till you have a full blown out mmigraine take it when you start to get a headache. Good Luck!!

  here's a thought...

why not try actually reading the label on a box of advil to figure out the active ingredients, and then looking up that active ingredient online?

you don't want people to judge you, but, you expect others to just hand you the information you need for a science project without saying a word about WHY you are demanding the information, or passing judgment on you for asking the question?

Wow... thanks for the laugh...

Sorry Bucko, you'll have to do your own leg work on this one.

What you most likely have there is a pill for constipation. Take a look at this article, this sounds like the pill you described. http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-9831-Doc-Q-Lace+Oral.aspx?drugid=9831&drugname=Doc-Q-Lace+Oral&source=0

Are Advil brands different in their formula?
I know Advil and Ibuprofen are the same thing. However, I've taken the same dosage of Ibuprofen as I would Advil and it had no effect. I have also done the same with Advil Liquid Gels and they too had no effect. Brown Advil tablets usually do the trick. Is there any particular reason why brown Advil only works?

PS. Please don't suggest to take Tylenol instead. It too does absolutely nothing.

No I FOUND this pill (the big yellow one) in WITH the regular translucent aqua-marine gel caps. You all think the yellow pill is hydro-condine?

  this is what wikipedia says:
The words acetaminophen and paracetamol come from the chemical names for the compound: para-acetylaminophenol and para-acetylaminophenol. The brand name Tylenol also derives from this name: para-acetylaminophenol. In some contexts, it is shortened to APAP, for N-acetyl-para-aminophenol.

so it's very likely paracetamol. i'd recommend throwing out pills that you don't know for sure.

DO NOT take Zomig unless it was prescribed for you. Zomig is a triptan. They are known to have different effects on different people. Even though I am healthy with NO heart problems triptan stopped my heart. If I hadn't been in the emergency room when they gave it too me I would be dead!
You need to be seen by a good doctor for your migraines. Your mom obviously gets help or there would not be Zomig in your house. Insist that you see a doctor soon! The only thing I can suggest now is to drink a coke. The coke syrup may help with any nausea that often comes with a migraine and the caffeine will help the other pills, ibuprofen etc. work better.
Good Luck.

Advil Liquid Gels vs. Midol for Period?
I have always taken 2-3 Advil (or ibuprofen) every 4-5 hours when I am having my period. I get really bad cramps (so bad I get sick to my stomach and throw up on occasion). This time around I've got really bad bloating, too. My friend is getting married tomorrow and I need to get rid of the bloating.

Advil seems to help a little with it, but more with the cramps. How does Midol work in relation to Advil for Cramps and Bloating? I need the strong pain killer, but need more bloat killer (lol). Any help would be appreciated to anything else I can do.

Thank you!

Well I use Advil, but I don't get that bloating. Never have. I'm a teen so I don't really want to buy some midol because we don't have any in the house.

I would say that your best would have to be Midol because it is especially made for period pains, cramps, bloating. It works very effectively. Sometimes Advil doesn't work for me.

Congrats for your friend. I wish her the best of luck on her big day!

Possible overdose, with questions a day later?
Well, yesterday I had taken 5 Advil liqui-gels for a migraine (not a blind dosage, I have been taking advil for a long while, dr said 4 was ok, and I had previously taken many more than that without any adverse affects, so I figured I was in the clear), but then 2 hours later took some prescription pain pills (mostly just to put me to sleep). It was a stupid mistake, by that time I had completely forgotten I had taken any advil. Anyway, they were 2 Darvocet100. Didn't help me sleep any, wound up staying up too late, but woke up 2 hours after I'd fallen asleep, about 9 hours after ingesting the darvocet, and I was getting bad hot/cold flashes and having really weird dreams, but I wasn't asleep for them...I would say hallucinations, but that sounds extreme. Also had a splitting headache the whole next day, and started throwing up a couple hours after I had woken up. I was then nauseous the next day, and all of today as well. Also have been having awful digestive issues along with the nausea. Diarrhea and that fun stuff.

And here is where I know I drop even further down the IQ chart:

Went to a friend's house the day after the possible overdose incident, for a drinking party. Noticed some muscle pain, like lactic acid from exercising, but ya'know without the actual muscle work involved. Anyway, I googled that and found that dehydration can cause it (which is caused by alcohol), so that's not any huge concern of mine, just throwing it in for information's sake. Been feeling really sleepy lately too, can easily sleep for 18 hours a day, and still be tired upon waking (and not for lack of waking up. That's 18 hours despite people trying to wake me up, and the 14 alarms I set every night for myself. I don't sleep 18 hrs often, I usually drag myself out of bed after the 12 hr mark. But still, always exhausted.) But for the record, I don't believe the tiredness is due to any pill issues, and it has been lingering for quite a while now, months even. Again, for information's sake.

Just wondering if anyone can offer insight on whether or not this could be an overdose, or bad combination, or just any help you would be able to provide. And I do not need any lectures on my awful, awful pill habits and all that jazz. Drinking is a very rare occassion too, so no prolonged drinking complications are a possibility.

Please and thank you!
Angie

It's possible that your muscle pain has been caused by extra tension that was diminished or went previously unnoticed because of the over-the-counter/painkiller use.

The hot flashes, chills and weird dreams are all common symptoms of withdrawal. It's possible that this is what you experienced.

You're tiredness and high level of fatigue/exhaustion could be totally unrelated or hand-in-hand. You might also want to check psychological disorders (such as depression) which are causing your restlessness (which is what I'm assuming you have since you took some pills to go to sleep), as well as your tiredness.

How often are you taking "downers" to rest? if it's often, your low energy could be due to a side effect of sleeping pills/muscle relaxers etc...called "morning sedation." It simply means that under the influence of these medications, once the user rises, or is awakened, they experience of marked sleepiness and fatigue caused by the body remaining in a prolog used sleep mode even when it's awake. Meaning your body isn't fully awake even after being out of bed. This can last anywhere from 20 mins to 1 1/2hrs+

If you find you are tired, frequently yawning throughout the day, and possess lack of interest in activities, you would want to refer back to my earlier suggestion of depression or even a glandular or neurological issue.

Why isn't the Maxalt-MLT and Naproxen I take working to relieve my migraine?
I've had the same migraine for a week. I take the medications exactly how the doctor prescribed, but nothing is helping. I'm a student and mid-terms are this week. It's hard for me to concentrate and I can't live like this forever. Please help me.
I have tried Advil, Tylenol, and Excedrin. Nothing is working.

Have you identified any of the triggers? that is paramount. Usually certain types of food, smells etc.

http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/triggers.html

Identifying the trigger is the most important intervention that can be done. Assuming that doesn't work, I wouldn't take the naproxen. Look for an OTC product called Excedrin migraine (contains caffeine, aspirin and tylenol I think), the caffeine works wonders. There are some other medications that can help, but they all have side-effects:

Neurontin - very sedating
Certain anticonvulsants (seizure medications) have been shown to help, but they are last-ditch
Beta-blockers help but for young people they feel weird to be on because they lower your heart rate.

Can I use Children's medicine? I ran out of Advil?

It's NOT liver poison! Childrens MOTRIN is just an ibuprofen syrup. Advil is a ibuprofen tablet.

There is 100mg of ibuprofen in 5mL of the mortin. So for every capsule of advil u would normally take, have 10mL of the syrup. So for example if you take 2 tablets, take 20mL. Make sure you have something in your stomach though, because it can be upsetting to the stomach. If you have taken Advil before with no problems, then childrens motrin should be ok for you.

Sleeping off migraines is often good to. So take your medicine, and then try lying in a dark , quiet room. Migraines can be draining- good luck!

Menstrual Cramps??
This is kinda embarassing, but when i get my period i get EXTREMELY bad cramps, and once i even had to stay home from school because of it. I've tried Midol and it didn't work at all. I usually take Advil liquid gels, but they recently stopped working and I don't know what to do. Should i go to the doctor to get medicine? By the way, I'm only a teenager.

Yes you should. I had the same problem for many years and my mom kept insisting that it was normal. Then I finally went to the doctor and they put me on birth control and now I have no problem at all. Tell your mom that you want to go. Birth control is the first method they try and it works wonders.

Why could I be feeling this way?
This has never happened to me before. I woke up this morning with an intense migraine. It is so intense, it hurts to blink. After taking an Excedrin migraine and an Advil Allergy Sinus, the fingers of my left hand started to feel tingly and the they went numb. After trying to work the numbness out of them, my jaw and lower lip started to feel tingly as well. The migraine is still there but the tingly feeling is gone. I'm on the Levora .15/30 28 birth control pill and I was wondering if that could have anything to do with what I'm feeling. If you know why I'm feeling this way, Please tell me. Thanks for your time and help.
This all happened in a 5 minute period. My sister felt my forehead and said it was burning and I just started to get the feeling like I'm about to throw up. Please if someone knows whats wrong with me, please let me know. Thanks for your time and help.

Migraine: What is the cure? How do I get rid of it? Any specific medication or remedy?
I have been suffering from migraine since I was 13 years old. Back then, the migraine had been constant but did not last long and it was easy to cure with plain paracetamol.

Over the years, the migraine lessened but seem to last longer than it had been before and I have also grown immune to paracetamol thus, changed my medication to ponstan.

When ponstan stopped having effects on my migraine, a local pharmacist prescribed me with a different medication which later on lead me to the hospital because I was allergic to it.

Now, the migraine attacks are less frequent but very excrutiating everytime it strikes. My family doctor prescribed me with cafergot initially and it worked well until it too had stopped having effect on the migraine.

I have had enough with prescriptions and medications and was wondering if there is a way to get rid of it. For your info, my migraine is associated with symptoms like bleeding mucus, seeing stars and nasal pain.
For your information, whenever I take caffeine, the migraine worsen. Any other suggestions? I'm not quite keen with another medication since I'm worried there might not be any more effect on me after 2-3 months later.

I'm having the WORST menstrual cramps right now! Any suggestions?? Please help!?
I'm getting ready to start my period on Wednesday and I always cramp a little a couple days before up til that point. I'm on the pill so it's typically not that bad, but it started yesterday. It has gradually gotten worse and at this point the pain is horrible. I was in tears a little bit ago. Thing is, I have taken Advil liquid gels (I'm allergic to aspirin so I can't have midol). I tried a hot shower, and I have a heating pad on my stomach...

Keep records of when and how often you get migraines and the triggers that cause them. Talk to your doctor about ways to prevent them or stop them once they get started. There are medications for prevention and stopping migraines.

Once you talk to your doctor here are 6 techniques which can help you prevent, even control, your migraines.
1. Identify and avoid the triggers which cause your migraines. Some of the food triggers may be:
***aged cheese
***depending on your age--alcoholic beverages, especially
red wine
***artificial sweeteners
***food additives such as nitrates found in hotdogs, bologna
and salami
***chocolate
***fermented, pickled or marinated foods
***caffeine
***cultured dairy products
***seasoned salt
***certain vegetables such as avacados, pea pods, beans
and onions
***nuts an peanut butter
***monosodium glutamate (MSG) that is used in most
processed foods as a preservative
***citrus fruits
***raisins
***doughnuts and breads made with yeast
-----Missing meals or fasting can also trigger migraines-----
2. Get regular exercise warming up slowly--sudden intense
exercise can cause headaches
3. Lower your stress level through meditation, biofeedback
therapy or joining a support group
4. If you smoke--QUIT
5. Reduce the effects of estrogen if you are a woman--Talk to
your doctor about reducing or avoiding the amount of
medications your take containing estrogen; ex. birth
control pills or hormone replacement therapy.
6. Maintain a daily routine--Have regular well-balanced meals
about the same time each day and go to bed about the
same time each night, getting 7-8 hours of sleep.

Good luck. I know how debilitating migraines can be as I have had them for years along with the auras and all the symptoms that go along with them. Now they are mostly controlled with medication and knowing what can trigger them.

What is the maximum mg of Unisom Sleepgels that I can take in one dose?
I have insomia and I took the regular dose of 50 mg (1 soft-gels) and I did not go to sleep. I want to up the dosage up to 100 mg (2 soft-gels) so I can get some sleep; however, I also want to wake up in the morning. So, what is the max mg that is reasonable without killing myself and/or is 100 mg acceptable?

Read the label, that's what it's there for. Definitely do not take more than 3 doses per day. Do not use for more than 2 weeks. If you take sleeping pills often, you should probably see a doctor or search for other types of remedies like self-hypnosis or guided imagery.

Is it safe to take Midol and Advil PM both?
I have insomnia badly so I want to take Advil PM as per usual, but I also have Niagara falls flowing from my vagina, so I took just Midol.

Is it okay to take the Advil PM as well?

Yes it's okay to take Advil PM and Midol together. Advil's active ingredient is ibuprofen (Motrin) whereas Midol's active ingredient is acetaminophen (Tylenol). I recommend that you take them at least 1/2 hour apart though so it's not too hard on your liver.

Migraine Headache?
I have had a horrible migraine for the past 2 weeks. It came on so suddenly and so strong that i went to the emergency room. I have been to 3 different doctors since then and none of them will help me. I have searched the web for answers. The only thing i can find is answers about migraine prevention. The same thing the doctors keep talking about. I am not concerned about migraine prevention until i get rid of the one i already have. I don't understand how i can have the same headache for 14 days now. It's ruining my life! Can anyone help me?

I can't believe they would not prescribe some medication for you. I take Imitrex for my migraine headaches. It is in pill form, but my MD said if it doesn't work, she can prescribe me a shot to take that is fast acting. No one should have a headache for 14 days. That's ridiculous!! Go back to the emergency room, or see your doctor and demand treatment of some sort to get rid of the headache. I'm sorry no one has treated your pain you poor thing!

What's the best cure for a migraine?
I've been getting at least one a day for a few days now. I treat it with either Advil or Motrin, but it's usually not strong enough. Are there any other over-the-counter medicines I could use to help with the pain that are maybe a little stronger? Or maybe even any home remedies?
I grind my teeth due to stress, but I use a mouth guard at night to control it. My migraines occur during the day when I haven't been grinding at all..?

Excedrin is a great over the counter medicine as it combines aspirin, acetaminophin, and caffeine. You can also duplicate this at home...try having a cup of coffee (or a diet soda with caffeine) with tylenol or advil and see if that helps. Also, if you're suddenly having migraines, you should go to the doc to see if there might be something more serious going on. The doc can also prescribe migraine medications that can help, although they can be expensive.

Another thing that used to work for me was Sinutabs. My migraines were sometimes sparked by swollen sinuses and that sometimes helped. Try alternating hot and cold on your forehead and back of your neck.

Everyone who get migraines is unique. You need to find your own best method. Hopefully this gives you a couple of ideas to try.

Good luck!

Poll for GIRLS: What are your reliefs from menstral cramps ect?
I use Midol PM because they usually get bad the 1st few days when I go to bed esp since it usually starts at like 2AM while I am sleeping. Then I have Midol liquid gels because gels are easier for me to take.

Does the heating pad work?
Midol or Pamprin?
Is it bad to mix the two midol and pamprin?
I already decided if I take pamprin I'd get the max one in the pink box becuase I get headaches, irritability, cramps, and fatigue.

I am 19 years old.

Something that has been really helpful, but it is only temporary (or as temporary as the person lets it be) is recieving a lower back rub.
My boyfriend is really good to me when he knows I'm cramping, and it helps A LOT when he rubs my lower back - the pain goes away COMPLETELY, but only until he stops the rubbing.

I don't see how this would be too helpful at 2AM, but if you're having a friend sleepover and/or if you have a boyfriend and are with him at those times, maybe you can get them to give you a back rub?
(I don't like flooding body with medication, so I usually resort to something external rather than internal).

Also, the heating pad will work, and have similar effects to a hot bath (which REALLY works)!

Good luck!

Bad headache - won't go away with Excedrin Migraine?
I feel like the back of my head is in a vice and there is a knife stabbing my left eye. This morning I took a Sulindac - it did nothing - then a few hours later I took 2 Excedrin migraine. I feel really nauseous. I thought it was a migraine because of the vision disturbances.

If the stabbing pain continues, go to the doctor or E.R. if the doctor is closed. I don't know about you, but there are too many people out there that wait too long to go to the doctor and then something bad happens. I would go into a cool, dark room and place a cold, damp wash cloth over your eye's and rest for awhile. If it does not improve, seek medical assistance. Feel better.

Is it safe to mix Advil cold with Excedrin?
I took some advil cold and it helped the sinus pressure and runny nose but I still have a killer headache. The active ingredients in Advil are ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine and in excedrin acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. I can't find any helpful articles on google. Thanks.

It is usually not the best option to mix and match medicines like that. I would wait to take the Excedrin until the cold medicine has worn off, just to be safe. There's just too many different ingredients here to make a safe cocktail.

If you really need relief, you could call up a pharmacist and try asking them what else you could try, or how long to wait.

Why do I get better sleep when I take Advil PM?
I have muscle tension in my back and found I have difficulty getting proper sleep. When I take Advil PM I feel rested and remember some of my dreams. I have now taken Advil PM twice and feel better. Why is this? I think something is wrong with me. I can't sleep well.

It is a known fact that you cannot sleep well when you are tense. You have to be somewhat relaxed to get a good nights rest and when you are feeling some sort of discomfort you tend to be awake in a sense. It's like having someone shaking you to wake you. Or try staying asleep in a car on a very bumpy road. You can't do it.
Advil tends to relax your muscles so you can relax and it may also have some form of medication to help make you drowsy.
Many people have these problems , you are not alone.
There are also some natural things you can do to help with this dilemma

Can you take Excedrin Migraine if you have the flu?
I am pretty sure I have the flu, I have all of the symptoms. I have had a migraine for the past three days now, and on the Excedrin poll bottle it says do not take if you are a teenager recovering from flu like symptoms. I have been taking tylenol, but it is doing nothing for my migraine. Does anyone know why the bottle says not to take it if you have the flu?

Yes. EM has aspirin in it. For children with certain conditions (like Chicken pox and other illnesses) it can cause Reyes syndrome - see link below if they take aspirin. It's a potentially fatal condition, causing swelling of the liver and brain.

If you have a severe headache and you have severe neck pain, see a doctor ASAP as that can be signs of meningitis.

Otherwise, drink lots of water, get lots of rest and consider ibuprofen instead of aspirin.

What is the best OTC pain reliever for a migraine?
Currently having one and it is real hard to look at the screen :( I'm having sensitivity to light/sound and a throbbing pain on one side of my head...I have all the common pain relievers at my disposal, Naproxen Sodium (Aleve), Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), but I don't know which one is going to work the best...and I can't take Aspirin because of medication interaction. Opinions??

I sympathize with you. I get migraines all the time. I use Excedrin migraine but since it contains aspirin i would count that one out for you. Tylenol would be my next pain reliever. Try drinking a cup of coffee with it. The caffeine will help constrict the blood vessels. Try a bag of ice on the side of your head and lay down in a dark cool room. This is what i use to get rid of mine. Hope you feel better soon!

Is it okay to take Actifed Cold and Allergy with Advil Cold and Sinus?
Actifed C&A does not contain Pseudoephedrine. It's Chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine HCl, which is an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant, respectively. I read somewhere that this is the new reformulated Actifed (I'm guessing that it used to contain Pseudoephedrine).

Advil C&S --> Ibuprofen and Pseudoephedrine

I took Advil C&S around 10 P.M. and it should be taken every 4-6 hours. After 4 hours (2 A.M.), can I start taking Actifed? I've been taking Advil C&S every 4 hours since 10 P.M. last night, so I've been on it for a whole day. I'd like to switch to Actifed. The Advil took care of my muscle aches, but my nose is running like a waterfall. I'm plugging up my nostrils with tissue balls. The post-nasal drip is giving me a sore throat.

Also, since the Actifed does not contain Pseudoephedrine, would it have been okay to take them at the same time if I really had to? I was thinking that it wouldn't be such a good idea because both of them contain nasal decongestants, except one is phenylephrine HCl and the other is Pseudoephedrine.

Thanks in advance!

Yahoo is a risky place to take your health, but yes you can handle both drugs if you are an adult, but I wouldn't make a habit of it. No other pills for high blood pressure, beta blockers, arrythmia, anxiety or tranquilizers. You may get a little temporary prostate trouble, enlarged, or in an extreme case, bladder infection.

You have tight muscles in your neck causing the headaches/migraines. Your neck muscles go to the top of your head for its movements. When the muscles get tight up there they pull on other muscles to surround your brain with pain, your headache. Migraines are more muscles involved, including back muscles and tighter. If you have pains on your eyes it's because the nerves for the eyes go to the back of the head, right past the neck muscles. When the neck muscles are tight they can press onto the nerves and that results in pain on the back of your eyes. More pressure causes the pupils to dilate to make one sensitive to light. To get rid of your migraine you have to free up the muscles in your neck as well as in your back as there are shared muscles with the neck there. Here's how to free them up:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. If any pain remains repeat this step.
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For both- for best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

How long does it take Treximet and Nadolol together to alleviate a migraine?
My doctor gave me Treximet and Nadolol (a beta-blocker) to help alleviate my migraine attacks (usually triggered by physical exertion). It's been two days and I'm seeing a lesser frequency of migraine attacks but I'm still disabled from my life activities, how long will it take to eliminate them altogether?

The Nadolol should work within two weeks if it is going to. The Treximet is just taken as needed when you get a migraine.

You might ask your physician about Topamax. It is FDA approved for migraine prevention and is the best medicine for migraines I've ever seen.

Is on and off migraine headache (severe) a side-effect of progesterone drugs or early pregnancy?
I've a history of migraine.. but since the last month or so, have had severe attacks quite frequently.. (right now also having one!).. have been on duphaston (dydrogesterone - a form of progesterone) medicine .. is this a side effect??

have been having abnormal periods for the last two months.. had a very very faint positive HPT recently.. can the headaches be a sign of early pregnancy? can the HPT be wrong?

Is there something else wrong with me, which is disconnected to any of the above???
the migraine that I've been having lately is accompanied by vision changes, lots of pain and bad nausea.. in addition to insensitivity to lights and sounds (these two I had earlier as well with migraine)
please help me out.. I am worried.. appt with doc on Monday but can't find peace of mind with the symptoms going on..

Sumatriptan Succinate for migraines, jaw pain?
I just took Sumatriptan for my second time to help my migraine go away. The first time I took it, I took it when I started getting the blind spots in my vision. I didn't get a migraine so it worked nicely to prevent it. I did have sharp pains in my jaw, though, everytime I would chew something. I didn't know if it was caused by the Sumatriptan or if it was from something else. So I got a really bad migraine today and decided to take the Sumatriptan again to see if it would help get rid of my migraine. I still have it and my jaw/ear area is veryy sore now. Its causing me a lot of discomfort. I dont know if its the Sumatriptan causing this or something else since I have been sick the past 2 weeks. My question is has any else experienced this? Is this a possible side effect of the medication or probably something else? I read that this medication could cause neck pain but nothing about jaw pain. Sorry this was hard to explain, I hope you can understand it alright.

OK, first of all, if you have jaw pain, you do not have a migraine- you have a cervicogenic headache. A cervicogenic headache is a headache caused by a misalignment of your head and neck. It can mimic a migraine right down to the nausea and pain behind the eye. However, jaw pain is usually caused by a misalignment of the base of the skull ( called the occiput) and the neck. This can produce pain in the jaw, headaches and grinding of the teeth at night.

I would recommend that you see a chiropractor. They specialize in correcting this type of condition. I will tell you I have corrected 6 people with symptoms like you are describing. However, the recovery time from the headaches depends on where the headache is. If the headache seems to start at the back of the head, the headaches can be stopped pretty quickly. If they are located in the temple region of the head, it will take longer while the jaw realigns itself once the head and neck are put back into alignment.

If you would like further information, please feel free to e-mail me at dare2care@dishmail.net. I would love to be able ot provide you with more information.

I wish you the best

Why have I had a headache for 7 days?
It started with a terrible backache more than a week ago, which then dissolved into my head. I've had an intense headache for almost a week now and I'm fairly sure that it's not a migraine. I went to the doctor the other day, and he thought it was muscle strain-- he put me on skelaxin and dolobid (basically ibuprofen), and I do not feel any better. If anything, my head is hurting more. I'm thinking about just going to the emergency room. Any ideas?
oh, and by the way, don't be stupid and suggest advil. I've taken enough and it has not done anything. obviously.
I just don't want to feel like an idiot for going to the ER for a massive headache.

Thanks for the well wishes.

What is the difference between "Children's Motrin" and "Children's Advil"?
When my children have had a fever the "Children's Motrin" very rarely brings down the fever, and I need to piggy back it with Tylenol. When I use the "Children's Advil" the fever starts to break in 20 min. with no Tylenol. They both are a form of Ibuprofen with the same mls.
Here where we are it is very hard to find the "Children's Advil" in any of the pharmacies or stores.

You are correct that Advil and Motrin are the same product, just different brands of the generic medicine ibuprofin. However, probably the same as with children’s Tylenol (acetominophen), there are different concentration in different preparations so that dosages are completely different depending on if you are using drops, suspensions, elixir or tablets. The most accurate way to determine the correct dose is by the milligrams, not by liquid measure such as teaspoon unless you are sure of the milligram content in the amount and type of liquid you are using.

But you sound well versed in the use of the medication and likely are giving the correct dose. So the next possibility is that separate episodes of illnes create different levels of illness and symptoms and each responds differently to medication and other forms of treating the illness. So an ear infection may respond differently to the medicine than the flu. There are other variables too, such as how well hydrated the child is, what other symptoms are present that the body is fighting, the length of time the symptoms have been present before the med is given, the level of immunity, etc.

You sound like an observant, attentive parent. Hope you all stay healthy!

Why are the dosing instructions different on Excedrin and Excedrin Migraine?
Although the dosage instructions on Excedrin say take two tablets every 4 hours not to exceed 8 tablets in a 24 hour period, the instructions on Excedrin Migraine say take 2 every 24 hours. There is actually more acetaminophen in Excedrin than in Excedrin Migraine. This doesn't make sense.

In order for the manufacturers of Excedrin to market their product for Migraine, both the product and the labeling had to be approved by the FDA. During that approval process, it was determined that the product would be relabeled as Excedrin Migraine and that the labeling would be different because the treatment of Migraine attacks is different from treating a "regular" headache for which people might take Extra Strength Excedrin.

We tend to see advil as a bit of a joke because it's easily available, and tastes like candy.

You should know that any medication that you take passes through your liver.

This doesn't sound excessive... but it would be better if it was prescribed by a doctor especially since you're young. If you're injured, maybe a break from the sport is what you need.

At least go see a doc about this. He'll let you know.

In fact, call a helpline (Like here in Quebec, we have Info Sante... run from our local clinics. They take phone calls to answer health related questions)

Taking those together should not matter in your case. The only contraindication for aspirin and ibuprofen is if you're taking it for anticoagulant reasons.

Unless you took more than 1 or 2 excedrin, there is no reason that you would be tired and dizzy; usually you become more alert due to the caffeine content.

i was food shopping today and very suddenly, I felt this strange sensation overcome me. I felt weak in the legs, a buzzing in my head, and I felt like I might pass out. I ran out of the store and into my car, and called a friend to come and get me. By this time I was in full blown panic mode, but instantly got the worst migraine of my life. I have been getting migraines all my life during my menstrual cycle, but they often come on slowly with warning. This migraine today was the worst ever and came on instantaneously, without any warning. I came home, took an amerge, layed down and the headache took about 7 - 8 hours to go away. Is this just a weird migraine, or a seizure?

Fioricet has 325mg of acetaminophen, and it depends on what type of oxycodone medicine your on, some contain 325mg, and some have 650mg's, or if it's oxycontin it wont have any acetaminophen at all, just try not to ecceed more then 650 mg of acetaminophen in a 3 hour period.

A good test is to drop the pill in a cup of water for 15 minutes, if it doesn't dissolve, use a pill crusher when you take the pill in the future and add the powder to half a cup to a cup of water so it will more easily be absorbed by the body.

How long does Imitrex take to work if taken late?
My 34 year old sister has been ill for days. She saw a doctor yesterday. They think it is a migraine. She was just given Imitrex tonight, to try to fight the migraine. It's supposed to be taken right away for the best results.

How long will it take before she sees any relief? It says if she has no progress in 2 hours she can take another dose.

Thank you for any helpful advice.

It may take a few hours for the medication to "catch up with the pain". When the pain gets out of hand, it can take a few doses for it to be effective.

Dears,

I have migraine since 10 years, I have discovered tablets called imigan, those tablets contain Sumatriptan succinate as an active ingredient, would you please tell me is it good? becasue I get really comforted when I take it and the pain is reliefed, but a doctor told me that these tablets cause heart attack! any advices please

They're ok. It depends on your own risk factor. Your doctor can determine that based on your age, medical history, etc.

Ask your doctor to do blood work. I had migraines for close to 15 years and finally switched to a different neurologist. He did blood work and found that I was low on iron. I'm now on a daily iron supplement together vitamin C to help absorption. This regimen has decreased my migraine frequency from 3 a week to none at all. I am migraine free for 7 months now which is totally amazing.

Taking a vitamin as a preventative is better than taking an emergency triptan drug.

How long does it take for advil to get into your system?

The general rule of thumb is around 30 minutes to start working, but I really hope you're not serious about taking 21 pills.
If you DID take 21 pills, you need to get to the ER and get your stomach pumped... it might not kill you right away, but severe liver damage that it could cause can take some time to slowly (and painfully) kill you.
Good luck!

I have terrible migraine headaches. I take relpax as needed. What types of food should I avoid eating?
I'm trying to avoid all foods that cause/trigger migraine headaches. The ones that I know about are MSG, Caffine, Chocolate, Presevatives. Are there anymore that I should be avoiding. I'm also aware that stress, weather, lack of sleep & hormones are big triggers. Thank you in advance!

Advil PM?
Is it bad to take Advil PM often? Will it hurt you?
Xander
06/14/08
Reply
If you take it too often, yes. (every day about 1200 mg)

You get a big chance of developing stomach ulcers when you do.
People who are taking these kind of drugs often are most of the times given an extra prescription of omeprazol. That's a drug that regulate the production of acid in your stomach.
That protects them for having that side effect.

Also, the chance of getting kidney/liver dysfunction is bigger.

Paracetamol doesn't have those side effects, so it is safer to take that.

Will it be bad if I take 8 advil cold and sinus instead of 6 in a 24 hour period?
Help. Advil Cold and sinus is only effective for me if I take 2. Right now I have the most miserable cold, and I can't sleep at night now. But I have already taken 6 in the last 24 hours. (The previous day I might have taken more than 6 in 24.... so would it be bad if I did it again?)

probably not a huge abuse, in terms of toxicity, but a small abuse. the liver has to process the ibuprofen, and filter out the solids. over time, it could cause renal problems and or liver damage. if you only do it a couple of times, chances are, you'll be fine and not suffer overly much.
just to be safe, why not just according to directions, though? good luck.

  I feel your pain.
It's awful when you can't seem to get on top of it...

The best solution I've found is "nerve blocks". I live 2 hours north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I go to the Headache and Pain Relief Centre in Toronto to see a specialist who gives this treatment. He injects a local anaesthetic in various parts of my head and neck. He won't let me leave his office until I have zero pain!!!! The relief is heavenly! It lasts for several hours. After subsequent treatments, it lasts longer and longer. With most of his patients he is able to completely get rid of their headaches after 4-6 weeks.

I also meditate frequently throughout the day. With practice, I'm now able to drastically reduce the severity of my pain!
& I recommend high doses of vitamin B2 and Magnsium.
Of course you know to drink plenty of water and avoid your food triggers.

Try to find someone in NY who will give you "nerve blocks." They will provide you with the immediate relief that you desperately need.

The first thing to do is try to eliminate the cause or causes - not easy, believe me!

There are so many things that can trigger migraines, it's a good idea to keep a journal to try to figure out what does and doesn't put one over the edge. I have what I call "primary triggers" - only takes the one thing to get that nasty ol' migraine started, but I also have other things that need two or three things together to make a migraine happen. And to make it harder to figure out, triggers aren't always immediate. Neat, huh?

And worse, some you can avoid, some you can't (my worst ones have to do with the weather - lucky me!)

Here's a list of some of the triggers that a lot of folks find may or may not set them off:

Aged cheese
Eggs
Tomatoes
Citrus fruits
Wheat products
Alcohol
MSG
Chocolate
Caffeine
Nitrites (hot dogs, bacon, lunch meat, etc.)
Sulfites
Avocado
Fermented or pickled foods
Yeast, protein extracts, freshly baked yeast products
Onions
Nuts, peanut butter
Dairy products, yogurt, sour cream
Aspartame
Mold/mildew
Bright lights/loud noises
Perfumes and strong scents
Skipping or delaying meals
Missing sleep
Hormonal Changes (period/menopause)
Oral contraceptives/hormone replacement therapy
Weather conditions, barometric changes, cold and/or dry weather
High altitude
Time or time zone changes/jet lag

Stress is not a trigger exactly, but in the same way that stress won't =cause= a cold, if you're stressed, it can often be a contributing factor.

There are a lot of things that can be done in addition to meds. Exercise (the kind that suits your friend - not going out and going nuts - and NEVER during a migraine...UGH!), stress management and relaxation, getting plenty of sleep (forming good sleeping habits), not missing meals, keeping well hydrated (lots of water!), and (this is a big one!) not smoking (if he or she does) - will all help. Basically all those thing people talk about as healthy measures...

I use self-hypnosis and biofeedback. I take a lot of baths (there's that relaxation thing again!). Some folks find that cold cloths or ice on the forehead or neck help. I can't deal with the cold, but do well with heat.

If your friend wants to try vitamin supplements, they may well help as preventatives. Many migraineurs (folks who get migraines) take:

Magnesium Oxide
Vitamin B2
Coenzyme Q10
Calcium + Vitamin D
(when taking supplemental magnesium, it's necessary to take extra calcium to keep them balanced)

I sure do hope this helps!

Is it ok to take Advil Cold & Sinus as well as NyQuil? ?
I've been suffering from some illness for about a week and it seems to be starting to break up. I've been taking the Advil Cold and Sinus to keep the pressure out of my sinuses. However, it's a decongestant. NyQuil is an expectorant, so I'm hoping to take it as well and help the infection purge itself.

My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

Has anyone been using Atacand (candesartan) for Migraine prevention?
What was typically the frequency with which you got migraine headaches? If you are using or used Atacand, how long have you used it? Was it successful? At what dose did you get a good preventative effect? What side effects did it cause for you? What if you had low blood pressure to start with?
Y es, it is a blood pressure medication. If anyone has used it for blood pressure, please also let me know at what dose, for how long, and if you suffered any side effects? And, yes, it's now being prescribed for migraine prevention.

I use Lisinopril - another ACE type blood pressure drug. A lot of blood pressure related drugs are now being used for migraines as well. Calcium channel blockers and beta blockers both are as well. Our doctors are also prescribing drugs for epilepsy that the FDA has now cleared as being okay for migraineurs (we the "lucky" migraine sufferers), too. Botox, the drug of choice for the plastic surgery crowd is now being used for migraines, too (I am a botox patient - my neurologist, who is a migraine specialist and an author, lectured on the use of botox in London this year).

I started getting migraines well before I was 10. At that point, we had aspirin (regular aspirin...nothing like Tylenol then) or narcotics. I've had them for well over 40 years. It's incredible how far we've come. No cures yet, but still...wow!

I am drunk and I have a headache. Is it okay to take advil?

I'm a Doctor, yes it is perfectly fine to take 1 advil, no more. It is important to understand that the more you drink the more this will add to the effects of any drug taken. So make sure you're not to drunk that any kind of overdose will happen.

So yes go ahead take 1 tablet, unless you've used any drugs like thc, Lsd, Xtc, or any perscription drugs, if so do not take advil unless you know for sure all you had was a small amount to drink.

Advil an Drinking has the ability to stop you're heart during sleep, so stay up for awhile and make sure you feel ok.

what is naproxen sodium, and can i mix it with other pain relievers?
i have a killer toothache.... hurts so much i'm having a hard time opening my eyes... which makes driving difficult and my dentist told me to take 2 tylenol and 2 advil every 4 hours.... now i found some ibuprofen, so that covers the advil... but i don't have any acetaminophen, but i did find some naproxen sodium...
i just don't want to give myself liver failure or something.

Naproxen sodium (Aleve) is excellent for toothache. When you do combinations of pain relievers for acute pain (like toothache), you hit different pain receptors and have a better chance of reducing the discomfort.

First of all - it is safe to take 800 mg of ibuprofen at a time up to 3 times a day for a daily total of 2400 mg. This is the same dose as the prescription strength motrin. If you increase it to this dose, you will definitely feel better. Ibuprofen is primarily excreted by the kidneys.

You can still add the Tylenol if you need to after 2 hours, but it doesn't have anti-inflammatory properties.

If you take 2 of the over the counter Aleve (which is roughly the same as the prescription dose of Anaprox), DON'T repeat it every four hours. This medication is longer lasting, so you can only take it every twelve hours.

Please make sure you eat something before taking the higher doses of anti-inflammatories - they tend to tear up an empty stomach.

Good luck, and hope you feel better!

How do I manage severe pain - endometriosis, PCOS?
I usually take a combination of vicoprofen and Meclomen, which seems to work. However, I moved and have run out of medication. I don't have a doctor I can see - new patient appointmens aren't available until August. I have debilitating pain - any suggestions on how to handle it until I can see a doc? I've tried everything from hot baths to exercise, - I've done everything I can think of. Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, etc don't work at all. I need something that will stop pain for longer than 5 minutes. Any suggestions?
At this point I would consider finding a doctor that open prescribes just to get the medicine I need - I know that's wrong, but there are days when I can't even get out of bed in the morning and it's worse at night.
I've tried taking 4 advil every 4 hours, it upsets my stomach but doesn't even touch the pain. I've tried 2 advil and an aleve at the same time - not much help either. I've tried every combination of OTC pain medication that I can think of - nothing works. Maybe I'll try calling my old doc, hopefully he'll help me out!

I don't know if clinics have regulations on those types of pain medicine. They might, so try choice one first.

That would be a difficult question to answer. Everybody's body is different. Some people can take many pills with no effect, while others take one, and have trouble.

Taking meds like excedrin usually takes years before it can damage your body. But it is still not recommended.

If the recommended dosage is not working for you, you should see a neurologist that specializes in migraines. There are many medications out there now for migraines.

Check out this website: mymigraineconnection.com. It is very informative and maybe you can find an alternative.

I wish you well.
