Took 2 Claritin RediTabs in one day, what's going to happen to me?
I took 2 Claritin RediTabs today, and I'm sitting here worrying about what's going to happen to me.

The recommended dosage is one tablet (10mg) for 24hrs, so I therefore have ingested 20mg.

I didn't mean to take the second one, so please don't berate me or think I did it deliberately.

The only thing that I've read about happening if you overdose on these tablets is drowsiness, but I'm worried that other things could happen to me.

Mom's already assured me that it won't KILL me or anything, but.. I'm still really, really worried.

If it helps to know, I've been taking Claritin for a long, long time, and I've never had any side effects from taking it.

People who take claritin 24 hour reditabs, will it work any better if you take more than one every 24 hours?
I'm getting killed by allergies and I'm strongly thinking about changing brands. Unfortunately I have a bunch of claritin in my cabinet already and would like to make use of it somehow. YES, I know what the recommended dose is, obviously it's in the name of the product. But if you HAVE taken more than one tab in 24 hrs I'm just wondering if you found it more effective. Thanks!

claratin is not helpful at all. I tried it and it doesnt work. All my doctors said it was not effective for strong allergies. Zytrec and other medicines used to make me drowsy. but iwas prescribed singualr in it was effected in a week. ALso ask you doctor for nasal sprays they work more better too.

Is it safe to take Claritin Reditabs every day?
I have allergies to dogs but I want to have one. Whenever I'm near a dog, I can just take a Claritin Reditab (melt in your mouth) and nothing will happen. Could I buy a dog and take a tab every day for a few years?
oh yeah, when I said "nothing will happen" I meant that the tablets work and no allergic reaction happens.

ii think you should take claratin 12-D
dats wat i use at least take em 2x a day once in dha mornin and oncei n dha nite.... it supresses the allergic reactions... but you have oo2 take it at least 2x a day too keep it workiin

Which medicine is better to relieve a runny nose? Dayquil or Claritin?
I have a cold and it's been going on for about 2 days, now I don't really mind the other symptoms except for the runny nose part. So which medicine from above would help get rid of it more?
Because I really don't like walking around with snot hanging down. =S

Claritin + Claritin-D
So last night I took Claritin 24hr to see if it would work because I have previously been taking Claritin-D 12hr but it's not working so well. Well the Claritin 24hr is working even worse. I'm not positive what time I took the Claritin but it has been at least 22 hours. Is it bad if I go back to my Claritin-D before knowing that it has been at least 24 hr's

What's wrong with me? Do I have mono?
I had allergy problems last week and I took Claritin reditabs. Around the 7th pill I started coughing like crazy and now about 5 days later I'm still coughing, sore throat and neck, and my body is pretty sore.

I'm going to the doctors this week but what could this be? Any ideas?

A friend suggested mono, but I don't have a fever or anything and I haven't shared drinks or anything that would give me mono. Does it sound like the symptoms of mono though?

Please help, I'm pretty scared. :(

Don't get nervous yet, I think it's entirely possible that you just picked up a flu (those are all flu symptoms), and it just happened to be at the same time you were taking your pills...

If you start to get a BAD headache (not a regular headache - those usually come with the flu, but a BAD one) while your sore throat and neck persist, then I would suggest getting to a doc sooner.

But as it is, I don't think you need to worry!

Can I substitute regular Claritin and a decongestant for Claritin D?
My allergies are really bad and Claritin D is the only thing that works. I ran out of it and I don't really have time to leave work today to pick up some more. One of my coworkers has regular Claritin, and I have Dayquil Sinus Relief. Would it be safe to take both of this as kind of a "substitute" for the Claritin D?

I'll share my experience with Claritin. It may not bother some people, but it should be noted that this
set of side effects COULD occur!!! (dry mouth, agitation, panic
attacks mimicking cardiac distress). Side effects: agitation, and spaciness, the first day. Then, after that, sleep
disorders, waking up at 3 am feeling like I was going to pass out
or die- I have NEVER experienced such a frightening side-effect!
( Probably just my individual intolerance! But I didn't associate it with the drug, and so kept taking it. I ended up in
the emergency room, with mental confusion, and a feeling of heart
troubel, a pressure in the heart area. (would never take this drug again! One doctor told me that HE had had this type of reaction, also! ). Allergy sufferers, allergists, etc. can I use Zyrtec or anything and have a job taking care of animals?
I used to have an outside dog when I was a kid. I got a soar throat and a runny nose one and a half years after. We had to give it to the Humane Society.

I have seasonal allergies. They make me sneeze and sneeze unless I take my Claritin RediTabs. Back in 1993 I took an allergy test and was allergic to all grasses, the tree of heaven, lambs quarter, alfalfa, feathers, house dust, and dogs.

We used to have two rabbits we kept outside and less than a year later my skin would itch and bleed.

Will Zyrtec or anything work for me and make it possible for me to have a job taking care of animals? If so will I have any symptoms, even minor ones? If you answer let me know what you have used and for how long, are an allergist, physician or whatever.

I am an LPN, and also an allergy sufferer. Allergic to all trees, all grasses, all weeds, dust mites, mold, cats, and feathers. Zyrtec works very well for me. Although my kitty has passed, it helped me tolerate her presence, as long as I didn't rub my eyes after petting her. As for environmental allergies, there are time when the non-drowsy type antihistamines just aren't strong enough. You can use benadryl along with the Claritin or Zyrtec, but preferably only at night since it will increase any sedation side effects.

Does anyone know of anything that works better than Claritin-D for allergies?
I've been taking Claritin-d for the past several days, It's helped somewhat with the nasal congestion but i'm still getting major drainage down my throat that's making me cough constantly. Claritin usually works for me so I don't know what to do next.

What's the difference between Children's Claritin and normal Claritin?
And does children's claritin works on a teen? What about an adult?

The dose. A teen/adult could take the children's version if they wanted to, but they'd have to take a whole bunch of it in order to be effective.

I am an adult and have trouble swallowing pills so the doctor told me to take Clartin Reditabs. I take ONE every 24 hours and it helps me a lot - can breath easier, etc,

my doctor told me to take claritin instead of the atarax for my allergies because its non drowsy but it doesn't work at all can i still take atarax if i have taken claritin today?

It should be fine. Just double check what the medicinal ingredient is in each. As long as they are not the same you should be fine. (I did some wikipedia searching and it seems that they are different ingredients).

That being said - I am NOT a pharmacist nor a doctor, so it is only what I would do. I would recommend that you check with your pharmacist to make sure there are no interactions.

Claritin and alcohol, is that a good combination?
I took a children's Claritin, non drowsy, pill 24-hour relief, and a dissolved tablet a few hours ago. Is it safe to drink a couple of beers as long as I don't overdue it? I'm talking about less than a 6 pack of beer, just to kick back and relax. It is 24 hour Claritin.

Claritin doesn't make you drowsy anyway and its a once a day pill. You can drink a couple of beers if your couple is the same as everyone else's and only 2 beers.

Allegra-D vs. Claritin-D? Generic Allegra-D?
Hi!

I've got all kinds of allergies (all pollen and animal hair, basically), and the congestion due to the allergies lead to frequent sinus infections. Because of this, my doctor has been prescribing Allegra-D (12 hour tablet) for years.

Soon, a new year of my health insurance will begin, and that also means I have to pay a high deductible, so I'd like to figure out if it would be cheaper to switch to Claritin-D.

Does someone have experience switching from Allegra-D to Claritin-D?

Is Claritin-D 12 hour or 24 hour better?

About how much do you pay for a month's worth of Claritin-D (i.e. 60 tablets for 12 hour tablets, 30 tablets for 24 hour tablets), if you don't mind my asking?

Are there any other products that combine a non-drowsy antihistamine and a decongestant that you can recommend?

I am allergic to nature, and have tried every antihistamine on the market.

First, antihistamines are formulated primarily to take care of indoor, or outdoor allergens, or a somewhat random combination of both. It helps to know what your allergies are, and you seem to know, so you're good there.

Allegra-D is OUTSTANDING at taking care of most of my indoor AND outdoor allergies, although is formulated more towards outdoor allergens. No drowsiness.

Claritin-D is OK at taking care of some of my outdoor and some of my indoor allergies - and is primarily formulated to take care of indoor allergens. Mild drowsiness with some people. Claritin comes in both 12 and 24 hour dosing, but the 12 works approximately 8-12 hours, whereas the 24 works approximately 12 hours :-(.

Zyrtec - recently OTC (over the counter) - is GOOD at taking care of outdoor allergens, and is primarily formulated to take care of outdoor - with some indoor allergen benefits, however Zyrtec's formulation causes moderate - extreme drowsiness for many - which is no fun.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the approximate cost however, as I haven't had insurance for years, and because I'm in Texas - I just take a 2 hour drive over the border, avoid the doctors fee for an office call, and I get it all without a prescription - and significantly cheaper.

My allergist suggested Advil (TM) Cold & Sinus for supplementing antihistamines, and for doing a little decongestant work - and I've had to use it faithfully for about 20 yrs now.

For my respiratory system and allergy problems, I'd rather pay through the nose for Allegra-D because I know it works, works well, and doesn't make me drowsy. In my opinion, a small cost savings would NOT make me switch. I like to breathe :-).

What you really need to ask yourself is: Just how important is breathing, and what am I willing to pay.

Alavert and Claridin D?
I have really bad allergies and lately i been taking Alavert 24 which only has Loratadine 10mg (which is antihistamine), but im also congested so today i bought claritin D which also has loratadine 5mg ( which is antihistamine) and also has pseudoephedrine sulfate 120 mg (which is nasal decongestant), this morning around 8:30 AM i took one pill of ALAVERT 24hour, so my question is can i take claritin D (by the way claritin D is the 12hour one) tonight around 1030 PM??? will it do anything?

I have terrible allergies, and the things that has worked for me the best is to take a Benadryl before bed (make sure you are going to get 8 hours of sleep), it should help you throughout the day.

However, you really should take any medical questions to a doctor or at least the pharmacist. Call your pharmacy and they should be able to help you.

They usually work for me within twenty minutes.. sounds like you may need to change anti histamines for a while. It seems that you can build up a tolerance for one brand and need to switch every now and again.

Is Singulair a good substitute for Claritin?
I have bad allergies to cats, and I travel to an area where there a few cats every weekend. Normally I take claritin, which will almost completely stop an allergic reaction. We're currently out of Claritin, is Singulair a good substitute?

Singulair acts on leukotrienes, while Claritin primarily targets histamine. Both can provide temporary relief from allergy symptoms, though there are many other cheap and effective ways to improve your symptoms. Keeping pets out of the bedroom, using an air cleaner and taking herbal antihistamines like butterbur can help treat AND prevent symptoms, whereas Singulair and Claritin only reduce symptoms that already exist.

How long after starting Claritin before one should feel some results?
Bad case of allergies. Mostly the nose is involved. Just started Claritin OTC 3 days ago, and have'nt seen any benefit, thus far.

I used to take Claritin and it took a week for me to see results. It worked about 6 months for me and then stopped working altogether.

Nasal sprays: Nasonex, Flonase, Astelin, Afrin, Zycam

Eye drops: Decadron, Maxidex, Econopred, Patanol

Pills: Tavist, Allegra, Zyrtec, Chlortrimeton, Singulair

Is it Safe to Mix Claritin D and Tylenol Sinus?
I took a Claritin D tablet (Loratadine 10 mg, Pseudoephedrine Sulfate 240 mg) this morning at 8 am because i thought i had an allegery and thats why i had Nascal congestion and pain...

Turns out im sick so now its 9 pm im really suffering from the nasal pain and cant even consentrate.

Would be able to take Tylenol Sinus (Acatamophen 325 mg per cap, Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg per cap....so x2, 650 and 10 mg) right now since Claritin is 24 hour pill?

Please provide a chart or some concrete source, I wont believe or give credit to simple "yes and no" responses

I can only recommend this because it works for me and my family 100% of the time for 5 people for sinus infection.
I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.

Is there a good allergy medication similar to Xyzal or Claritin that doesn't cause weight gain?
I took Claritin last summer and stopped when I realized it was causing weight gain. Recently an allergist put me on both Xyzal and 10mg of Claritin everyday and again I'm noticing the weight gain. Is there anything I can take that won't cause this weight gain. I'm sure much of it is water retention, but it's becoming uncomfortable. Thanks.

Weight gain seems to be a common side effect of all antihistamines, partly because they tend to stimulate the appetite.

Ok, to those who say, exercise can cause rapid heart rate, this is exercise I do every other day, and don't normally have this feeling. However, I took the Claritin D late today (1 PM) and went to the gym at 6 PM and my heart was pounding like crazy during my workout. So the difference is that I normally take the Claritin much earlier in the day, like 4 hours earlier.

Yes, it causes fall of BP, rapid heart rate, and dizziness. In extreme cases it can cause sudden death. At rest it can cause rapid heart rate.
You are antihistamine sensitive like me, so take some lemon juice, NO MORE ANTIHISTAMINES.
It can even pass from mother's milk to baby, FDA is very reluctant about its use.

Why does Claritin D work sometimes for me and other times it doesn't?
My doctor prescribed Claritin D (24 Hour) for my allergies because this year it's been the worst. I started taking it a few weeks ago. Sometimes when my allergies were bad I would drink it and it would work for a while. Then sometimes I would get a horrible allergy attack (itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing alot, headache, sore throat because of the flem I get with my runny nose) and Claritin D wouldn't work. I would be suffering and I have no clue why it doesn't give me relief every time I drink it. Is this common? Does it take a few weeks for your body to adjust to Claritin? I was also wondering if Claritin will always stop all your allergy symptoms even if your around the allergen all the time? I've been wondering if it's my air conditioner that's aggravating my allergies because I usually get these attacks home, very rare outside like when I go to school. If this was the case, wouldn't Claritin stop me from having these allergy attacks? Please help Im so confused. Thanks!
The reason I'm finally seeking answers for this problem is because I'm currently having an allergy attack, and I'm upset because I drank it less than 24 hours ago and I'm feeling terrible. I just hate allergies ;-)

Suggest a simple Allergy IgE Blood Test via your Prime Dr. .....which will tell you What ..and to What Degree you are Allergic.

Springtime will soon turn to summertime and neither are pleasant times to be outdoors for allergy sufferers in Iowa. Many people are already sneezing -- and reeling -- with watery red eyes and stuffy noses due to elevated pollen levels.

Dr. Miles Weinberger, a pediatrics professor and allergy researcher at the University of Iowa, says pollen will be a pest for the next several months. The worst of the major pollens that effect people in the Midwest is ragweed, which usually strikes between mid-August and late September. The grass pollen comes out usually in June and the first pollens are the tree pollens which are out now.

While there are numerous over-the-counter medications that can relieve allergy symptoms, Weinberger says many sufferers are taking the wrong drugs. "When you look at the major problems that people have with this, it's often the most effective medications aren't administered properly and aren't administered in a timely manner," the doctor says.

He points to the influence of broadcast and print advertising on physicians and on allergy patients. He says the leading antihistamine for many years has been Claritin which is -- in his words -- "the least effective of all of the antihistamines in common use." He says it's marketing that made Claritin such a phenomenal seller, even though it was "barely effective enough" to gain F-D-A approval.

How old do you need to be to buy Claritin Allergy Medicine?
Ok, I ran out of Claritin for my allergies and both my parents are at work and I need them now! I am thinking about going to Walgreens and buying some, but will I be allowed to get them? I have never bought medicine myself, so I don't know. Is there a certain age requirement?

What is the difference between Clarinex and Claritin?
I've been taking Zyrtec and it helps me but gets me sleepy; I took Claritin when it came out and after a while did not work too good. I suffer from high blood pressure, but controlled with meds can anyone tell me the difference.

The makers changed the formulation of Clarinex because they put Claritin over the counter (without prescription) Claritin contains 10 mg of Loratidine and the new formulation of Clarinex has 5 mg desloratidine. both work basically the same by inhibiting hystamine receptors so that your body does not release hystamine in response to alergens. Most insurance companies will not cover Clarinex without prior authorization due to failure of Claritin or loratidine product. Hope that helps.

Is that too much acetaminophen or is it ok? Does Claritin D have acetaminophen

The Claritin D and generics for it have the antihistamine and a decongestant. There is not any acetominophen in either the Claritin D or the generic, so you may take a pain reliever or two. When you are taking acetominophen, though, be very careful to keep your '24 hour intake' of it to below 1000 mg. per day. If you take acetominophen, you'll need to take more in four hours to keep the 'pain' away, so add up the milligrams of the pills you are taking. You may want to take another 'pain killer' that also relieves inflammation. Most people take ibuprofem, which can be 'piggy-backed' with the acetominophen for greater pain relief. If you are 'sick' for more than five days with this 'self treatment' you will need to see a doctor, because of the possibility of needing other treatment for you to get better, and to also keep from 'overdosing' on basically 'good drugs' accidentally.

Does Claritin affect the effectiveness of birth control pills?
I take Claritin 24 hour and Lo/Orval birth control pills. Does the Claritin affect the birth control pills at all? I googled and researched, but couldn't find a definite answer. It isn't an antibiotic, and I know those can affect birth control, but yeah. Just wondering if anyone had talked to their doctor about this or anything.

Why can you not cut the pill Claritin D?
The Claritin D pill is a monster! I was going to cut it into fourths, and then a I read the back and it said not to cut it. Can someone tell me why?

The pills have coated layers to slowly release the drugs. If you break the pill, you can get up to a 3x dosage (the entire medication in 4 hours instead of 12 hours).

What is the difference between singulair and zyrtec or claritin?
I currently take Singulair which has not helped me even though it used to. I'm now experiencing itching when im out side and my body feels like its burning up all the time.
Can Zyrtec or Claritin do the job that Singulair couldnt?

I take singular every day and every other day I take zyrtec. the zyrtec has helped a lot even though I take it every other day. I would recommend that. I have taken claritin before but it didnt really help me. Ask your doctor if you have any other questions.

What to do about really bad allergies/itching when claritin doesnt work?
My face is almost swollen from itching and i can't stop sneezing and blowing my nose. The worst part is all the itching! I take 2 Claritin every few hrs daily, but it doesn't work. What is wrong with me???

Does Zyrtec or Claritin work better as an allergy medicine?
I've been taking Claritin as needed for my springtime allergies. It works ok but they are really bad this year. Some people have recommended taking Zyrtec. Does it work better?

At one time I took Claritin when it was a prescription. I had taken it for years and it stopped working all together. I have always had eye allergies. I have numerous allergies, environmental, food, etc.... and after I tried Zyrtec it was fantastic. I love it and it helps my eyes tremendously. My kids also take it and I get the generic version and feel it works the same. I was so worried when it went over the counter cause I had tried the Claritin and it did not help. Either my allergies changed or the meds itself was different.

Now I will also say that NO pill can keep me from a flare up and especially cat dander, dust, dust mites, etc.... but this is the best and have even tried to go back to prescription allegra and a couple other new ones and they still don't do what Zyrtec can do. And I am allergic/sensitive to lots of medicines out there also and that is why I cant take the D form of most meds cause it is way to strong and I end up vomiting. Hopefully you are not like myself and can take most meds without problems.

Can you have alcoholic beverages while taking Claritin-D 24 hour?
There aren't any warnings anywhere about consuming alcohol while taking Claritin-D 24 hour. It's Mother's day today AND my first wedding anniversary and I'd like to have a drink at our lunch out to red lobster and then later for dinner at our bonfire. So I need to know if I shouldn't take the Caritin at all today?

If you're talking about one or two drinks it shouldn't be a problem. If you're talking about getting crazy drunk then that might be a problem. Call your local pharmacist and ask them for sure, but I've never heard of anything bad happening to anyone who drank after taking Claritin D.
