can glucophage xr be taken twice daily?
I can't take normal dose glucophage as it causes me awful stomach ache, glucophage xr is more gentle on my stomach and I need 1500mg daily but where I live only 750mg is available.

Does anyone know what tests to ask for to test for diabetes while on glucophage?
I've been on Glucophage XR 1500mg daily for treatment of PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Last month I was diagnosed with gastroparesis (lazy stomach) which occurs a lot in diabetics. My grandmother died due to complications from diabetes. Are there any tests I should ask for to make sure I don't have diabetes? Would I need to stop the Glucophage to get tested? Any suggestions?

PCOS is associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, so it is likely that your Doctor is already monitoring some of these levels. In addition to what RhapsodyinBlue suggested, I would make sure they check your insulin levels and do a glucose tolerance test. The fact that you are already on glucophage bodes well for you if you do have diabetes since glucophage can be used to treat type 2 diabetes as well as PCOS (it originally was developed as a type 2 diabetes medication). Glucophage?
I am not sure if anyone can answer me on this question, but can I take glucophage two times a day (it's a 500 mg dosage)? Just to let everyone know, I am taking this for my polysistic ovarian syndrome, and I'm not diabetic.

Glucophage is an oral antidiabetic agent that decreases glucose production by the liver and lowers plasma glucose levels and is often used for PCOS patients.

The usual starting dose is one 500-milligram tablet twice a day, taken with morning and evening meals. Your doctor may increase your daily dose by 500 milligrams at weekly intervals, based on your response up to a total of 2,000 milligrams

But, you need to contact your doctor before changing your doasge and.....you should be having routine blood workups and kidney functions tests.

Is it likely that Glucophage XR and/or Glimeperide causes Tinnitus?
I've recently been taking Metformin but switched to Glucophage at my doctor's instructions and also boosted my daily prescription of Glimepiride from 1/2 mg to 2 mg. Concurrent with these actions I began having a 24/7 ringing in my ears!

Regardless of whether or not it is listed as a side effect, the occurance of both the medication change and ringing in the ears could be more than a coincidence and an important symptom of something that needs treated. Tinnitus has a lot of different causes. You should let your doctor know about it.

Any differences between Glumetza and Glucophage XR?
I am suppose to take Metformin 500mg three times a day for PCOS, but due to several unpleasant side effects, my dr has switched me to Glumetza. Is there any difference between the Glumetza and Glucophage XR?

Glucophage- How did you feel when you started taking it?
I will be starting Glucophage soon and am wondering how you felt taking your first few doses.

Was there any noticeable difference?

I'm wondering what all to expect, well..besides the cramps and diarrhea.

I took it to treat my PCOS. The first couple of weeks were a little rough. If your doctor is smart, he or she will start you on a low dose, and increase it after a couple of weeks. That way you can build up tolerance and see how you react. After about two weeks I was fine. Make sure you eat, drink plenty of water, and eat fiber. It will help with the adjustment.

How long does it take for glucophage XR to show results?
I was just recently prescribed Glucophage XR to help with my blood sugars, and I am wondering how long will it be before I show results? (Some drugs start working the first time you take them and some take weeks.) Thank you for any info!

It can take up to 6-8 weeks for your numbers to stabilize, you should start seeing reductions after the first week with improvements every week.

How long did it take before you started losing weight on glucophage?
I got diagnosed with PCOS and im just starting glucophage (metformin) and i was wondering how long it would take before I would start losing weight.

I don't know who told you glucophage will help you lose weight.. it won't. I know there is a theory out there that it might help, but the primary idea is for non diabetics to take it and lose some weight via appetite suppression. There are no facts showing it helps diabetics at all. In fact, if you read the side effects can include "rapid weight gain".

"Studies have shown mixed results on a possible link between weight loss and metformin. In most of the clinical studies, people taking metformin did report losing weight. Why do I have to stop taking my 2000 mg of glucophage xr when I have a CT scan with contrast?

There is a very slight risk that Glucophage (also called Metformin) can react with the contrast dye used in CT scanning to cause lactic acidosis in the patient. This risk is so small that I believe it has only happened once or twice in real patients, but has been shown to be possible in lab tests.

PCOS and Glucophage XR 1000mg?
If you've taken this medication for PCOS, have you ever noticed the pills in your stool? I did, and I'm worried I'm not getting the medicine. Does anyone know?

Hi. I was on Glucophage as well, same dosage for PCOS.

I never noticed the pills in my stool, because when I was on that medication all my stool was very watery.

Even after I was used to the drug, every so often I would get that and bad cramps, so I had to go off of the drug.

It was a terrible experience, but not as bad as Lupron though.

I suggest that you go to your doctor and tell them what is happening.

They may ask for a stool sample.

I hope that this works out for you and that your treatment works.

I've been taking Metformin(glucophage) for 6 years and I have recently been switched to the XR version...?
I take it for PCOS. My prescription for the regular Metformin was 500mg 3 times a day-but this new doctor who changed it prescribed me the XR version at 500mg once a day. I don't think it's right...Shouldn't it be 1500mg once a day? Does anybody know? Thanks!
my "condition" is not improving, without this drug, I do not have a menstrual cycle and gain weight even with diet and exercise.

I would say its good to try and you should have a follow up scheduled pretty soon I'd imagine. The XR version may help control your symptoms but you might have to go up to 1000mg. What is you a1c? If your follow up isn't within a couple weeks I'd call your old doctor and see what they think. Its actually hard to tell without seeing the lab values.
