When I was 16ish (46 now) I got coated with Malathion and I was wondering if my health was/is in danger?
I have had some health troubles throughout my life with several possibly initiating factors that I don't believe anyone really knows what the outcomes might be as in when I ate 1/2 of a Nereum Oleander leaf at approx.3 or 4 yrs old. Also I've had a mild case of Chicken Pox as a child which left me with a mutated form of Herpes Zoster that breaks out in various spots on my body in strange patterns, sometimes once a month, sometimes after a couple years,it's sporadic but was properly identified so that we do know it's what the breakouts are. Anyway, are there any specifics associated with the exposure to Malathion which was sprayed in aerial fly overs in California at the end of the 1970's or the early part of the 80's?
EDIT: Malathion was an insecticide which was sprayed to eradicate the Medfly

Ovide Malathion for Head Lice?
Dr. prescribed Ovie Malathion .05% for my 4yr old daughter to treat head lice. Everything I read indicates that it has never been tested for kids under 6, that it is a poison along with 3 other ingredients, is flammable and should avoid prolong exposure to skin, eyes and mouth. The odor is horrible as well. I decided not to use it until I hear some personal experiences and speak to her Dr. Has any one use this before on their kids? Am I over reacting or just being a parent?

I have been fighting bugs, (fleas and box elder bugs) around my home for months now.?
Recently, I have found over 5 spots on my skin that start out looking similar to "ring worm", but they are more like square-shaped hard skinned areas.
I have been using a sprayer, and the insecticide "MALATHION"
Please help me find out what these spots are.......

Scabies that won't go away?
A week ago, the lower parts of my arms and legs starting itching. Then tiny little numerous pores starting breaking out. They formed little scabs which looked really unsightly. It's not eczema as I don't have any past records of it. The itching started at about 6 or 7 pm, and it was really unbearable.

So I went to the doc, and he diagnosed me with scabies.

Then I bought a bottle of Malathion Lotion (Malathion 0.5% w/v in an aqueous base) and applied over my whole body for 24hrs. Then I re-applied it for another time, again 24hrs.

Over 3 days, I used the bottle of lotion for 3 applications. Continuously. (The instructions told me not to be used for more than once a week for 3 weeks at a time, but my mum wouldn't hear of it. She said the faster I got it treated the better.)

In the meantime, my mum vacuumed the entire house, washed all the clothes and bedsheets, bedspreads, etc. that I used in Dettol and dried it in the sun.

After applying the lotion continuously for 3 days, I stopped the treatment. (I had also eaten some medicine relieving the itch as well.) It appeared to have worked as the itching stopped.

Then, just after 1 day of not applying the lotion, the itch came back again.

I have no idea why the scabies mites came back, but they just did and it's causing me great discomfort and my skin looks really ugly.

I also have some other question regarding scabies:
- Is it recurring? (Well...from my case, it seems to be, but...)
- Can I prevent it? (Apparently I got it while camping. Can I apply insect repellent? Would that help?)
- Does long hair increase my chances of getting it? (My mum's being harping about how the mites might go to my scalp and stuff....)

Thanks :) Please help.

You have to treat your whole body, not just the seemingly affected area. You have to repeat the treatment in 7 days. You have to wash all bed linens in hot water. I don't think the long hair makes any difference. Check here.

Mosquito spraying?
A friend of mine was at a football game where a plane came over and sprayed for mosquitos. The chemical sprayed was Malathion. This was last Friday (9-15) and ever since, he has had nasal problems (congestion, sneezing, runny nose). I've done some research on it, but can't find much. Do you know if this could be causing his problems? Here is a link to the article: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/15553403.htm

Contact your local USDA extension agent. They have information on pesticides like this.

Malathion has a history of causing liver cancer after repeated exposure.
That plane should never have sprayed that chemical in a place filled with people.

H1N1 virus, how it really began?
Is it directly from the pigs. We had bird flu, mad cow disease and now spine flu. What is there to eat really?

Vegetables and fruits are sprayed with poison. No one knows the amount of the malathion or cyanide, and other dangerous chemicals deposits in the leaves or plant. Eventhough there is a recession of spraying before reaping, pesticides incubate in the fruits and vegetables. Chicken are fed with their process faeces and given hormones for quick growth.

Various cancers still baffle doctors, as our food derived from a battered environment is wreaking havoc upon all earthlins.

for help with resistant lice?
If you have treated for lice for weeks and still feel crawling you still have lice. They may not be visible and you may be successful constantly combing out the nits. People will make you feel like you are crazy because they cannot see the lice. Keep treating and combing or you will have a huge infestation and it can spread to your loved ones. Consider shaving your head.

Scabies... its driving me mad!!!?
i went to OZ a week ago i spent 2 weeks in Oz. When i landed in Oz i started itching. Badly. I had red bumps and i just ignored it and i couldn’t go to the doctors because it would be extremely costly in a different country. So when i came back to NZ i went to the doctors. He prescribed me A lice Malathion lotion, which i was supposed to used every 7 days. I am to rub it on my body from neck downwards and wash it off after 24 hours. She also prescribed me Calamine Lotion which is meant to help me of my itching. It cools it down and it works. Sometimes.

i went to the doctor on the 8/10/10. and i am using the lotions. but is there any other way i can stop it? or get a cure? i cant stop itching. and i have my exams coming up. i am so scared to go school in-case i transfer it to my friends. i always stay a bit away from them. it driving me mad. it is so bad. i itch all night. its hard to fall asleep. and when i wake up i find blood spots on my bed. very tiny. this is from scratching too hard. it is only on my wrist and hands. but since i am scathing it seems to be spreading on my thighs. please help

this is killing me!

I had scabies once, I got them from a mattress that was purchased from a Salvation Army store. Scabies can take a little while to awaken and start getting under your skin. If you started itching when you first arrived in OZ it's likely that you already had them before you left. If you are STILL itching after this amount of time with the lotions, it's possible that you still have the item that is housing them close to you. A bed, or mattress, or couch or something like that that you have recently acquired (that wasn't new) might be the problem. If you are still around the item you will keep itching.

Go back to the doctor and get a new lotion. The one my doctor prescribed me ( I cant remember the name) was, like yours, a full body application which had to stay for 24 hours. I was advised that if I started to itch after a couple of days to repeat immediately, not wait for 7 days.

It started with me on my wrists and hands, and after a while spread to the backs of my knees and then between my toes (all those warm spots that they like to nest in) over some weeks before I went to the doctor. If you went to the doctor on the 8th and they are still spreading now, either the item that they were dormant in is still getting your body warmth, or the lotion isn't working. Go to the doctor again and get something different, and more importantly scour your brain for ANYTHING that you have acquired in the month PRIOR to when you started itching and get rid of it, cause that would be where they came from.

Hope this helps, and I feel your pain, it sucks!

Oh, and ppl you're around can't 'catch' scabies from you so don't worry about that. They're not like lice in the way lice can jump around in close proximity. The reason you itch is cause they are literally burrowed in to your skin, they won't leave a warm host.;..
