Is it safe to mix oxycodone and aspirin?
First of all I would like to say that there isn't any need for negative comments, I have a prescription for the oxycodone. I have a lot of back problems and this morning it was just killing me and I had forgotten my prescription so I took an aspirin. I'm very uneasy about mixing anything. It was around 12 or so in the afternoon when I took just one aspirin and it is now nearly 9pm so I was wondering, would it be safe to take the oxycodone now or should I wait for a longer period of time?

It should be fairly safe to do so. Aspirin isn't prescription where all the big problems come in, that you have two different things working on the same problem and you can get too much of them in your system. If you are interested in pain free living I have the techniques to pass along to you that can bring you out of that pain world. It did me after 40 years of it. If interested, let me know and they will be yours.

Emme, why not just have the doctor prescribe Percodan rather than Percocet? Percodna such as Watson 3551 has the opiaoid combined with the aspirin already.

Is it bad to mix aspirin with oxycodone?
My aspirin is from wall greens and I don't know who its made by (just more proof of my bad at medicine and finding information on bottles-ness) and I want to also take some oxycodone. I usualy take about 7 pills of it (I know thats bad please don't judge me by that) and I also want to take some aspirin. I was wondering if this could be dangerous or harmful in anyway. Thankyou!!

You can take oxycodone with aspirin. Oxycodone is synthetic morphine and acetaminophen. I just wonder why you would want to take aspirin with Oxy's unless you are trying to get rid of some inflammation. I take 10/325 oxycodone and BC powders everyday.

Oxycodone script refill?
I just got back from a major surgery on my arm a couple of weeks ago and was prescribed Oxycodone, they normally said they wouldn't put me on any kind of painkillers but I can't use any kind of aspirin or Ibuprofen because of the antiplatellet effect and I could bleed a lot easier.

Well now that is over and my counts are back to normal and I only had one refill for the oxycodone. The thing is neither aspirin nor the ibuprofen helps the pain that I still have. What are the chances I could get them to allow me to get another oxy script?

I really am tired of feeling like shit..

thanks

If the surgeon/physician has "released" you from his/her care, he/she will not refill your prescription. Or at least should not, according to federal law. Doing so will risk his/her license. If you had a followup visit and the doctor didn't schedule another one, you have probably been released.

You don't mention what type of major surgery you had on your arm, or what the surgery was for. Sometimes arm surgery can result in loss of range of motion, stiffness, and pain. And sometimes a Physical Therapist can help you with an exercise program to strengthen the arm, increase the range of motion, and even decrease the discomfort of shortened ligaments and tendons.

You should contact your physician's office to find out if you've been released. If not, you may appropriately ask for another prescription, perhaps in the smallest amount (i.e., 2.5 mg). You may also want to ask about a referral to Physical Therapy.

If you've been released, you may want to ask for another appointment and tell them you're having a lot of discomfort. Not every major surgery goes perfectly well, and there may be complications with yours. Ask the doctor how long you should expect to have this discomfort.

Many people have major surgery and end up dependent on oxycodone. My own brother was one of them. As another poster suggested, be careful with this situation!

What is the difference between Percocet and oxycodone?
I suffer from chronic back pain and it has been suggested to me to switch from the Percocet to the Oxycodone so I can minimize the amount of aspirin/acetaminophen my liver is exposed to

oxycodone has no acetaminophen in it like percocet, it is just the narcotic. percocet is the brand name for a pill that contains oxycodone and it does have acetaminophen. an example would be 5/500 the five being the mg's of oxy and the 500 being the amount of acetaminophen. there is oxycontin which is just oxycodone. the contin part of the word just means continuous release and does not contain any other medication. many medications for pain have part narcotic and part acetaminophen like fioricet which is part butalbital and part aceta. fioricet is the brand name for butalbital. percocet has many siblings the exact same medication by a differant name because it is made by a different pharmaceutical company. try webmd.com they have all the info you need. gd lk

Oxycodone and itching?
I have taken oxycodone for about 5 years for breakthrough severe Restless Legs Syndrome in both my legs and arms. While the dose is moderate (usually less that 20mg of an evening) for treatment of RLS and it has never been an abuse issue for me, suddenly, I have developed head to toe itching. I use straight oxycodone without any aspirin or acetomenaphen, There is no rash, but I itch in some pretty personal areas. Benadryl will exacerbate the RLS. Any suggestions as to what and when to take it
It is straight Oxycodone not Oxycontin. I got 5mg tabs so I could easily take only what I need to control the symptoms. Oxycontin did not work that well and make me dopey. I am surprise about the fuss with Oxycodone. I have never gotten any high from it - just might get a bit sleepy. I avoid the benzodiazopine as they make me dopey and may exacerbate the RLS. Had it since I was a kid. I am a 56 year old retired RN (ER and Infection Control) and it is getting worse every year.

Oxycontin comes in 20 mg., I'm not sure about Oxycodone, thought it was categorized as 325 mg. Acetaminophen with 5 mg. Oxy, or just 5 mg. Oh well, keep up the Benadryl. Also, I don't understand your itching, I have only seen it after Epidurals and Morphine. I don't think you need any Oxy drug at all. You should take the Beta Blocker Propranolol 20 mg. for the restless leg syndrome. Valium or Diazepam works too, and doctors may not know that, I do.

How much Oxycodone is in 30MG Oxycontin?
I know that part of the Oxycontin pills contain stuff like Tylenol or Aspirin or something like that. Does anyone know the exact amount? Thanks!
Another Question: If the 30MG relates to the Oxycodone, then is there anything else in the pill?

It is true that Percocet typically contains anywhere between 325 and 750mg of Aspirin in it, but nothing that exceeds 10mg of oxycodone in it will EVER have Aspirin or Acetaminophen (APAP) in it.

Oxycontin (which ranges from 10mg to 160mg of oxy.)actually does not contain any Tylenol or Acetaminophen. Oxycontin stands for oxycodone continuous release, which is a time release that only contain bindings (for time release) and dyes (for the coating around it) and releases oxycodone gradually over a 12 hour period.

As far as 30mg. oxycodone, that is an the highest immediate release form of oxycodone available and contains pure oxycodone with no bindings and definitely no Tylenol or Aspirin.

I'm sure you know that oxycodone containing pills are the most addicting pills on the market and if not used properly and/or are mixed with the wrong meds (respiratory depressors mostly) you can literally stop breathing. In FL oxycodone claims an average of 7 lives a day via overdoing, so be careful and best of luck to you.

OxyCodone vs OxyContin?
I've been prescribed OxyCodone with APAP for a back injury. A friend of mine offered me an oxycontin. He said it was the same thing just without the aspirin/acetaminophen added in. I'm looking at this from a legal standpoint. If I were to be drug tested would it show up differently or as the same thing? And please no "you shouldn't mess with such and such", I just want an answer to my question. Thanks for any help.

How much Aspirin do I need to take to get the same effect of Oxycodone?
A low dose pill containing Oxycodone every night was the only thing that got me to sleep. Now I am forced to pick things over-the-counter because my doctor won't give more and I am suffering (not addicted). I got a big bottle of Aspirin... I hope that it is better than Acetaminophen & Ibruprofen. What is your take? What is the most effective out of the 3? So how many should I take, or maybe I should take one of each? Somebody who knows this stuff help me...
what part of "that was the only thing that got me to sleep" didn't you understand? I don't appreciate responses from people who don't read my post. Just make me suffer more.
it is not nessessarily pain the way most people would think it, it is more of a slow torture of insomnia and sleep deprivation that has grown to be a real live pain for me. i am always dizzy, lightheaded and wobbly with a complete lack of enery every minute i am awake. i can not sleep no matter how exhausted i am, i am extremely anxious and irritated. i havent been able to hold a job or do any normal activities in years and this has taken the best years of my life away from me. every day i need at least 12 hours i sleep in order to get up and feel somewhat normal and be able to resume normal activities like hanging up posters in my room, brushing my teeth, etc. I feel am young man and slim but I feel like an obese 70 year old man. my doctor doesn't understand or listen. the only thing that ever worked for me and soothed all my ailments and gave me my life back was oxycodone.
To the spinal surgeon- I only got a bottle of 15 endocets (5 oxycodone and 325 acetaminophen) to originally relieve a stomach pain. then i found it worked for sleep so i only took 1 occasionally over a period of like 9 months. i used em sparingly becuz i thought i might not get more. but wud have liked to use every 2nd day or so. so how could u say my doctor did a good thing but not giving me more?

Ok, let's leave addiction out of the equation. I don't point fingers. What about dependence? Which can be just as bad if not worse than addiction. The main use for Oxycontin is not to help you sleep. It is generally used for mild to severe pain and if it helps you sleep in the process, then that's a plus. Yes not being able to sleep can cause you to have "pain symptoms". Your body is not getting a chance to so called "repair" itself if you are not getting the proper rest. There are several good medications that you could discuss with your Dr. about taking. I am not qualified to mention them, but I am speaking from experience. You do not want to become dependent on narcotics. Then you really won't be able to sleep. Also, one day you may truly need them for the main reason they are prescribed. By then you may have built up a tolerance and then of course...you need a different (possibly higher) type of pain med or maybe none will work for you anymore. It's a vicious cycle and also one I wish I had never had the misfortune of experiencing. Because just when I finally got off of all narcotics, I noticed some of the pain med was actully causing pain. So I was feeling better than I had felt in years. Now, my luck of course... I have been diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome,(from a recent wrist surgery that was repairing the original wrist surgery) CRPS is one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. However, my tolerance for any medication that could help(until the Dr.'s are done using me as an experimental lab rat because narcotics are generally not a fix for this...torture) is completly ruined. Pain med's may as well be candy as far as my body is concerned. Please trust me, you don't want to live like that. Try talking to your PCP first and see if they have any other suggestions. They may also apperciate the fact that you are trying to avoid narcotics on your own. P.S. By the ay, I can't work either and my walls seem to get in my way too.

I woke up this morning with a bruised eyelid.?
I just started taking toviaz - could this be a reaction to the new medication? I am on a daily low-dose aspirin regimen and I also take aspirin for aches & pains. Last night I awoke with a headache (around 3 a.m.) and took 3 aspirin. When I woke up at 8 a.m. I had the bruise. Could the aspirin be responsible?

What is the best pain med for a shoulder ache?
I was climbing a rope yesterday and i swung around and twisted my shoulder. It hurts really bad. What should i take out of these? Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin, Naproxen, or Oxycodone?

a cold pac, especially the gel type is the best pn relief, then gentle ranging of the shoulder;; then pn relief, tylenol is the safest;; next time you injure yourself;; move the part, cold pac for 15-20 minutes, move the part again & use the cold pac when agitated again.. if the pain lasts for more than 3 days without relief, see a doc;; if it returns with the same intensity even days later, see the doc;; lots of things in the shoulder, it's a VERY vulnerable joint... Good Luck!!

what's the difference between oxycodone hydrochloride and oxycodone with acetaminophen?
And what does acetaminophen do when mixed with oxycodone or hydrocodone?

Oxycodone hydrochloride - The narcotic pain reliever is mixed with aspirin

Oxycodone Acetaminophen - The narcotic pain reliever is mixed with Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen relieves pain by elevating the threshold to sensing pain. It reduces fever through its action on the heat-regulating center of the brain. The combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen or hydrocodone acetaminophen achieves greater pain relief than either taken separately

Oxycodone and being healthy?
I take Oxycodone everyday for pain management -30mg IR, 3 times daily. I have taken this medication for 3 years now but I am curious as to whether or not I should take any type of supplements or vitamins to maintain a healthy balance in my body. I am a 31 year old male and I suffer from chronic back pain as a result of degenerative disk disease. I do not use acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin products. I do not drink alcohol and do not use any other narcotics or street drugs to include marijuana. I have a good relationship with my doctor and have talked with him before about this issue, but I would like the input of another person who also takes this medication. Take you for your response(s).
I have tried the injections but I didn't respond to them too well. I know that they do help but I like to know that I can get relief right away when it's needed. I would like to find an alternate for managing the pain.

Have you looked at other pain releiving methods? I am not trying to downplay your pain but have you tried cortizone shots? I had very intense back pain due to DDD and herniated disks and the corizone shots worked great. The first few didn't work but the last one did. As for the question...not sure what the answer is for that.

Why do some people take Tylenol instead of aspirin?
I rarely taken meds like aspirin or tylenol, but I've been curious why people take Tylenol over aspirin sometimes? Is aspirin harmful, or is it just not as strong as tylenol for headaches and minor pains? What's the reasoning behind why people do or do not choose aspirin for minor pain relief?

Aspirin is more likely to make you bleed because it thins the blood. People on prescription blood thinners or those who are prone to bleeding ulcers ( or bleeding anywhere in their body) should not take aspirin. Tylenol is safer for this reason although in large doses over a long period of time Tylenol can damage the liver. Also, unless okayed by a physician, aspirin and aspirin-containing products should not be given to children because of a serious, avoidable, rare condition it can cause called Reye's Syndrome.

What is the difference between oxycontin and oxycodone?
My mom is going thru cancer and has been on percocet (oxycodone + acetaminophen) for a year and recently her oncologist put her on oxycontin every 12 hours and percocet for breakthrough pain as needed. Is oxycontin just a long term or delayed release form of oxycodone or something different entirely? We just want to understand what she's on.

Percocet is a mixture of oxycodone and APAP (acetaminophen) like you said. Oxycotin is pure oxycodone with a time release effect. Oxycotin comes in much higher doses of oxycodone than percocet.

What should I do if I took aspirin after possible concussion?
Slipped earlier going down the stairs at home fell on my but hard whipped my head back but did not hit it on anything. Have a pretty good headache so I took 2 aspirin.

Later read about concussions to see if I might possibly have one and have read DO NOT take aspirin after concussion. If I do have one what should I do if I took aspirin? My only symptom is a headache, nothing else.

Chances are, you don't have a concussion. I've slipped on ice before, and I smashed my head against the it, and for a moment, I actually saw black. I laughed it off and was all fine. I just got an extreme headache, but it felt obvious I didn't have one because it went away after about an hour. (I was at school, so aspirin wasn't an option)
Is it persisting? If you have it for a couple hours, maybe you should go to the hospital, just to be safe?
You never know. Should be careful.
Hope it helps! :)

Aspirin has been known to be a moderate blood thinner, with reduced clotting ability, so it is possible for the hemmoroid bleeding to increase somewhat. I suggest you keep up the aspirin regimen, but also consider taking a daily dose of a fiber supplement, such as Metamucil or Citrucel to aid in easier bowel movements.

The difference between the two is basically in the chemical structure. For all intents and purposes, they are the same. Another version is Oxycodone terephthalate.

As for hydrocodone, it is NOT the same as percocet. Percocet is a compound of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Dosages can vary; the standard is 5mg oxycodone and 500mg acetaminophen. Hydrocodone is found in Vicodin and Lortab, and many other generic versions. It is a weaker painkiller than oxycodone, and the chemical synthesis process is different.

I see you are asking questions about opiods, just curious, why?

How much aspirin after a heart attack?
My fiance had a heart attack about 6 months ago. He had a blocked artery and the surgeon put in a stent. All's well now, and he's taking a few medications including Plavix, Simvastatin, Pacerone, and aspirin. My concern is the amount of aspirin he's taking. The doctor originally put him on 325 mg of aspirin, but I think it's too much. He tends to bleed more than usual, even if he just nicks himself shaving. He also says he has trouble staying warm.

His next doctor's appointment is next month, so I thought I'd just ask someone here who may have similar heart conditions/medications if they think 325 mg of aspirin is too much to be taking 6 months after a heart attack.

The usual recommendations for aspirin dosing after stent placement is 162-325 mg for either 1 month (bare metal stent), 3 months (sirolimus-eluting stent), or 6 months (paclitaxel-eluting stent). After that, the recommended dose is 75-162 mg daily.

Now these recommendations are from the AHA, but many cardiologists adapt practice based on specific characteristics of patients. At my institution, the cardiologists like to place patients on 81 mg aspirin even within the first month of stent placement.

Your fiance can most likely drop to the lower dose of aspirin (discuss with the cardiologist first, of course....), but in reality the clopidogrel is likely having a larger impact on bleeding than the aspirin (clopidogrel is an absolute must after stent placement, however, so he'll just have to be more careful shaving).

Fentanyl (Duragesic) 100mcg patch is = how many mg of oxycodone?
I tried to use the narcotic converter but got messed up results. I was recently prescribed Fentanyl 100 mcg duagesic patches from my doctor for cancer. He had me on 15 mg of oxycodone 6 times a day. I told a friend recently about this patch he prescribed me and my friend said woah wtf? Thats a huge jump from what you were taking and the strongest drug in the world.

So my question is:

One is this the strongest drug in the world and as dangerous as everyone says even when taken as prescribed and with 2 yrs opiate resistance.

And my other question is, roughly if you compared this drug to the oxycodone i was taking. how many mg of oxycodone is this thing equivalent to, per hour? I haven't taken it yet I wanted to do my Homework first.

First of all, Fentanyl is NOT the strongest pain killer in the world. Not by a long shot. While it is very powerful, your not in any serious danger as long as you take it as prescribed. The fentanyl patch delivers 100 MICROgrams every hour. The LD50 (lethal dose of 50% of experimental subjects) in rats is about 3 MILLIgrams per kilogram from sources in my medical books. The patches deliver the drug very slowly. 100 mcg of Fentanyl is approximately equivalent to about 8-10 mg of Morphine which is equivalent to about which is equivalent to somewhere between 4-8 mg Oxycodone an hour. The only real worry is post-use withdrawal. Fentanyl is EXTREMELY commonly used in cancer pain treatment and many times is prescribed with an oral opioid such as oxycodone for breakthrough pain. Don't fear using the fentanyl patch, it's very effective and when used as prescribed it is very safe. Just be careful to fold the sticky sides together when you are done with your patch as there is still active drug in the patch even after 24 hours of use. I wish you the best in your battle with cancer.

5 mg of oxycodone is not enough for you to feel it. The best method would be to crush the pill and either put it in a gel cap or parachute it (put crushed powder in a small bit of tissue paper and swallow with water) and I didnt really see addiction I was doing over 250mg of oxy a week for 2 months and have been off that for a LONG time with no withdraw effects.

Aspirin and aluminium and magnesium hydroxide?
Hallo.
I am from Italy but I am in London at the moment. I was told that in England aspirins tablets are similar to the Italian ones but with two additional important "ingredients" which are aluminium and magnesium hydroxide to protect the stomach. Is that true? and if so, could somebody suggest me a good "aspirin brand" or are all the same? I bought the Aspirin Tablet B.P. 300 mg but the components are not written, except for a sentence which says that "contains the active ingredients aspirin of 300mg plus lactose, starch and talc" but no Reference to aluminium and magnesium...
thanks for your help.

Is it bad to take Dimetapp while on oxycodone?
I was given oxycodone about 3 hours ago for post-operative pain and I've also got a bad cough. Would it be a terribly bad idea to take Dimetapp now? I'm also going to be taking Tramadol later tonight, will it react badly with that?

do NOT take tramadol with any other opiate or opioid. tramadol itself is a heavy duty opioid, and oxycodone is an opiate. both will depress the cardiac system, and tramadol alone is enough to slow breathing to the point you shouldnt take any other downers. I code blue'd in the hospital on a dose of morphine they gave me that wad too heavy. add on tramadol and i probably would have been dead. as far as oxycodone and dimetapp, if you follow dosing guidelines it should be ok. the thing about opiates like oxycodone is that people in a lot of pain can take doses that would kill a healthy person. if the doctor prescribed you the tramadol and knew you were on oxycodone i suppose it would be ok, if following dosing instructions, but with my personal experience with opiates and opioids, in the hospital and out, legitimate or not, i personally would not take tramadol with oxycodone. opioids and opiates often clash in the body, so just exercise caution. all i can do is attempt to instill knowledge that will help you better judge whether or not to do it. and good luck whatever your choice =)

How early or at what age is it ok to start taking aspirin in small doses to prevent heart disease?
Hi,

My father has had two quadruple bypasses and two heart attacks so I know a little bit about heart conditions. I am 24 right now and I want to reduce the chances of ever getting coronary heart disease. I know that low doses of aspirin around 75-81mg are prescribed to people with heart conditions to "thin" the blood and today I read an article about how not enough people take aspirin as a precaution against heart attacks. I also know that aspirin even in mild doses can cause ulcers, especially if you drink, which I do quite frequently. I wanted to know if now is a good time to start taking aspirin because even though i exercise and eat healthy and do some cardio, I also smoke, and I probably am genetically more likely to develop heart disease....Does anyone know the answer to this? Also would aspirin make me more prone to getting dizzy and unable to perform more strenuous activity because it 'thins' my blood? Thanks a lot for reading this.

  abby,

Low-dose aspirin can be started anytime, since 81mg aspirin tablets have only one side effect. We'll get to that in a moment.

You'd be much better off changing your diet and lifestyle now.

1. Stop smoking now. Never, ever restart. It killed my dad, and he's not alone in that.

2. Stop drinking now. You can drink a little now and then, but don't drink "frequently" any more.

3.Now, about your diet: the three diets (these are not diets to lose weight but diets to live on for your whole life) that have shown the most promise are the Ornish Diet (very low fat), the Mediterranean Diet (controlled fat, most of which is plant monounsaturated and fish), and the Portfolio Diet from the University of Toronto (includes "plant sterols" or oils from canola, olive, and almond), which are very good at preventing heart disease.

Go on a diet like this, do it now, and do not cheat.

Now, while you probably don't need to go on aspirin for another six to eleven years (your choice), you could go on it anytime.

You will not be dizzy from aspirin. In fact, you will not be able to tell that you take it. I run 20-30 miles a week and I take it. Have done for years.

If you do, however, there is one event you will need to watch out for--cataracts. You most likely will not get them if you wear good UV-blocking sunglasses, but you must wear them. There is an elevation in the rate of cataract formation in people taking aspirin therapy than in those who do not.

Cataracts are enclouding formations in the lens of the eye, making your vision in that eye cloudy. It forms very slowly, over years, but you can watch your vision cloud a little more each year when you get them. The treatment for this is easy, quick, and simple, but it is surgery, and you will need glasses afterward.

So, go ahead and take aspirin whenever you wish, but when you do, wear good sunglasses every time you go outside on even a halfway sunny day.

What would happen if someone were to take a 325mg Aspirin tablet every day?
I've heard that taking a daily Aspirin has certain health benefits (for heart disease and whatnot). But is the 325mg dosage way too high?
I ask because I recently bought a bottle of 325mg Aspirin that was on sale for a good price. Should I instead split a pill in half and take the half?

80mg is the daily dose size. Taking 325mg will most likely result in a stomach ulcer after awhile.

What is the maximum amount of Oxycodone tablets one can take in a day. 5mg oxycodone, 325mg acetaminophen?
i was prescribed these for my intense migraine, they told me they will numb the pain. i might of taken too many. like 4. my head is killing lol thats why
thank you. i guess 20mg of oxy is nothing. but yea lets say if i were to have taken 9 throughout the whole day what would happen. lets say 5 then 4 like 6 hours later

You will be fine,, you may get sleeping and feel a little off balance but you are on a very low dosage,,, 2 mg of oxycodone is not much at all,,,, worry more about the tylenol,, don't exceed 4,000mg a day.
Even if what you meant was 5mg the total of 20mg is what I take 4 times a dday and have for years,,, you really need to stop messing around,,, some people end up having a bad reaction to even a little bit too much,,,,

the way you are trying to self-medicate really is not a smart thing to do at all.

It's how every addict and abuser I have ever known started,, no one ever thinks it will happen to them,,, well it does,,, I started messing with opiates and ended up a heroin addict,, it sure wasn't what I planned,,, I had an spine injury, was in pain and self medicated like you seem to be,,, it's not smart at all

Really the smart thing to do is to NOT listen or care about what I take or what anyone else writes here,, you can't compare medication,,, everyone is different,,,,, some people can take 120mg of methadone at one time and other people 40mg kills them,,, TAKE THEM AS DIRECTED,, it's pretty simple

PS: I hope a doctor did not tell you that the oxycodone would numb the pain,,,,, it's meant to help control the pain to a manageable level not make it go away completely

PS: look at the link from Ginny,, it's a good one

PS PS: You can't compare MS Cotin to oxycodone,, MS Cotin is morphine sulphate,, they are not the same thing at all and as far as I know the are a 12 hour release

about oxycodone and acetaminophen?
So, Im taking oxycodone for back pain and am concerned about the acetaminophen, as it supposedly causes liver damage. Ive heard of soaking them in water then filter it to remove the acetaminophen. Does anyone know if this actually works? Thank You.

This is not a useful method for pain control. This is an addict's method. If you are taking 12x325 or 8x500 or whatever adding up to 4000mg a day over time, max safe dose, liver damage is unlikely in the absence of alcohol. If you need more than that or are on for years, your doc can prescribe pure opioid.

Does the Acetaminophen in percocet reduce the effect of the ocycodone or increase it?
My doctor gave me 7.5/500 oxycodone/acetaminophen.

How is this compared to the 7.5/325?

I'm guessing the increased milligrams of tylenol subdue the "drunken" feeling of the Oxycodone, because I can't really notice any difference?

Or, am I wrong?

Acetaminophen theoretically increases the amount of analgesia (pain relief) obtained from opioids (like oxycodone) but if there is an increase, its marginal.

They also put acetaminophen and other drugs in with opioid medications to deter abuse- too much acetaminophen will make you sick and kill your liver (FDA allows 4 grams or 8 500mg pills or 12 325mg pills in a 24 hour period).

The acetaminophen should not have any effect on the sedation or intoxication from oxycodone so 7.5mg w/, w/o or w/ more acetaminophen should all feel the same.

Is 205 mgs/day of Oxycodone too much for a male who does not have cancer nor ever had surgery-only joint pain?
Combined with Valium, Elavil, Neurontin, high blood pressure medicine (Tarka), Colace & previously taken anti-depressants such as Cymbalta and Wellbutrin--- wouldn't 205 mgs. of Oxycodone be considered "too much" for a 45 yr. old male who is only experiencing shoulder & knee joint pain? No cancer or surgery, just pain from joints (scheduled for, but not had joint replacement surgery). Wouldn't this amount of Oxycodone per day cause a fatal overdose?

What medical reason is Marijuana ( cannabis ) not legal?
I have seen all the commercials about the harms of Methamphetamine use but also know that it is a prescription for young kids (Desoxyn). Ketalar (Ketamine ), PCP (Sernylan) are both similar and both available in Rx form to name a few familiar street drugs that have "Medical" use.

Aspirin kills over 500 people a year. I was personally admitted for combining Rx meds ( Oxycodone and Xanax) at the prescribed level. Only if there was a drug that calmed both pain and anxiety that was safe.

Deaths attributed to Marijuana? 0.

A common mis-perception is that it is illegal because people smoke it. I've come to believe that it's all about the industrial uses.
Hemp was the top crop worldwide before it was made illegal. It was made illegal at the same time that many synthetic fibers and chemicals were being invented and marketed. This was also right around the time that a hemp paper was developed that could run in printing presses. (previously although hemp paper has a long history, it wouldn't run reliably in the new presses).
Fake news, scientific studies, and advertising/education; demonized hemp and convinced the public that people, (especially black people) would run riot in the streets and rape women (especially white women) ; if hemp was available.
The "crusade" and the eventual prohibition put synthetic rope and fiber producers, and the logging/paper industry at a great advantage and effectively ended any further use or research into hemp.
Even though industrial hemp is effectively not smoke-able, it was included in this prohibition and classed as a drug. That would be just like outlawing chopsticks because bigger pieces of wood could be used as a weapon.
Although during the world war, it was briefly legal and farmers were encouraged to grow hemp for fiber and rope. It was back to illegal drug status immediately after.
Ever scientific study, social study, psychological study and legal study has recommended it be declassified and decriminalized. Politicians routinely re-write and reverse their own studies' conclusions to support keeping it illegal.
There is no study that links usage to anything more than temporary laziness, slight hunger, and some short term loss of memory. As in " what were we just talking about?, Oh yea, let's get some donuts.".
No other crime has so little justification to remain on the books. No other current product is kept illegal under these circumstances.
You could find literally hundreds of household products that could give you a more severe intoxication effect and are more harmful to you and the environment, that are perfectly legal and sold to anyone at your local store. There are hundreds of plants living near your home or readily available that can be used as intoxicants.
And yet,,,, hemp rope is illegal and classified as a drug.

Doesn't that sound like fraud to you?

Is oxycodone bad for your liver w/out the acetaminophen?
I have oxycodone hydrochloride (oxycontin) and there isn't any acetaminophen in it so is it bad for your liver still since I know acetaminophen is, but not sure about the oxycodone alone.
Angela
03/14/10
Reply
Oxycodone is not bad for your liver at all, in fact, you always want to make sure you get pure oxycodone instead of an oxycodone / acetaminophen pill. The vast majority of people finally know that acetaminophen damages the liver badly, but they don't know that pills with acetaminophen will also cause damage to the body if they're taken on an empty stomach. You should always eat a cookie or 2, or something of that size, before taking acetaminophen and other types of pills. However, oxycodone can be safely ingested on an empty stomach.

Also, just for further information: oxycontin is not exactly the same as oxycodone. Oxycontin is extended-release oxycodone. Compared with oxycodone, oxycontin is formulated differently and it always has some type of coating that is required to ensure the oxycodone is released over an extended period of time.

Oxycodone is the name of the narcotic in Oxycontin.

Oxycontin contains oxycodone, but is 'continuous release', hence it's name.

Basically, the reason you never hear of anyone getting hooked on oxycodone is because it is quite difficult to obtain in a pure form, due to the increased potential for abuse. Generally, a NSAID such as paracetamol or aspirin is added, so an overdose would also cause severe pain due to liver damage. Examples include percocet (oxycodone and paracetamol) and percodan (oxycodone and aspirin).

Also, oxycodone is generally sold under some sort of trade name, so you wouldn't hear the word "oxycodone" used to refer to an addiction, just as someone with a Vicodan problem wouldn't say they had a "hydrocodone" addiction.

You need to call your doctor's office to double-check, but I don't think you should be taking toradol before a surgery. Hydrocodone should be OK. Toradol is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID), and NSAIDs and aspirin can lead to increased bleeding during surgery.

Many, many people who take all kinds of blood pressure medications also take a baby aspirin daily to protect their heart. If you do this, do not use additional aspirin for pain - too much aspirin can cause bleeding problems. You should have discussed this with your doctor who knows your risk factors and can ease your mind as to whether you need daily aspirin therapy or not.

I dont think these two correlate at all but there ARE alternative blood thinning herbs that would be a better choice. Aspirin does not "increase" bleeding, what it does is "thin" the blood so that it flows more quickly through the system.
As far as the IUD and increased bleeding, this is normal.

The American Heart Association recommends aspirin use for patients who've had a myocardial infarction (heart attack), unstable angina, ischemic stroke (caused by blood clot) or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs or "little strokes"), if not contraindicated. This recommendation is based on sound evidence from clinical trials showing that aspirin helps prevent the recurrence of such events as heart attack, hospitalization for recurrent angina, second strokes, etc. (secondary prevention). Studies show aspirin also helps prevent these events from occurring in people at high risk (primary prevention).

You should not start aspirin therapy without first consulting your physician. The risks and benefits of aspirin therapy vary for each person.

If you’re taking aspirin and you must undergo even a simple surgical procedure or dental extraction, you must tell the surgeon or dentist your aspirin dosage.

PARAFON® FORTE Tablets

SCHEDULING STATUS:
Schedule 2

PROPRIETARY NAME
(and dosage form):

PARAFON® FORTE Tablets

COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains chlorzoxazone 250 mg and paracetamol 300 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A2.8 Analgesic combinations and
A3 2 Non-hormonal preparations.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Data available from animal experiments as well as human studies indicate that chlorzoxazone acts primarily at the level of the spinal cord and subcortical areas of the brain where it inhibits multisynaptic reflex arcs involved in producing and maintaining skeletal muscle spasm of varied etiology. The analgesic action of paracetamol supplements that which results secondarily from muscle relaxation. Paracetamol possesses antipyretic action.

INDICATIONS:
PARAFON FORTE tablets are indicated for the relief of severe skeletal muscle spasm and pain associated with such medical and orthopaedic problems as: sprains and strains, myalgias, torticollis, tension headaches, traumatic muscle injuries, low back pain, fibrositis, cervical root and disc syndromes.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
PARAFON FORTE tablets are contra-indicated in patients sensitive to either component.

WARNINGS:
PARAFON FORTE is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation since safety in pregnant women or nursing mothers has not been established.
Dosages in excess of those recommended may cause severe liver damage.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
The usual adult dosage is two PARAFON FORTE tablets four times daily.
Because safety and effectiveness of PARAFON FORTE in children have not been established, such use is not recommended

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
(a) Adverse Reactions
Occasional patients may develop gastrointestinal disturbances. It is possible, in rare instances, that chlorzoxazone may have been associated withgastrointestinal bleeding. Dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, malaise, or overstimulation may be noted by an occasional patient.
Drowsiness can occur with the use of PARAFON FORTE and may be additive to drowsiness from the concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Rarely, petechiae or ecchymoses may develop during treatment. Sensitivity reactions resulting in reversible skin rash or blood disorders may occur, but these are rare. Angioneurotic oedema and anaphylactic reactions are extremely rare. Rarely, a patient may note discolouration of the urine resulting from a phenolic metabolite of chlorzoxazone. This finding is of no known clinical significance. Infrequently, cases have been reported in which the administration of chlorzoxazone or chlorzoxazone containing products was suspected of causing liver damage. Several of these were subsequently determined to the due to underlying diseases rather than to chlorzoxazone (i.e. carcinoma of the head of the pancreas, carcinoma with hepatic metastases, cholelithiasis). The remaining cases had a clinical picture consistent with viral hepatitis or a medicine induced hepatitis. In all of the latter cases the medicine was stopped and the patients recovered. It is not possible to state that the hepatitis in these patients was or was not medicine-induced.
(b) Precautions
Store in a safe place out of reach of children.
PARAFON FORTE tablets should be used with caution in patients with known allergies or with a history of allergic reactions to medicines. If a sensitivity reaction occurs such as urticaria, redness, or itching of the skin, the medicine should be stopped. If any signs or symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction are observed the medicine should be discontinued. Patients suffering from liver or kidney disease should take this medicine under medical supervision.
Do not use continuously for longer than ten days without consulting your doctor.
Consult your doctor if no relief is obtained with the recommended dosage.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
In the event of overdosage consult a doctor or take the patient to the nearest hospital immediately. Specialised treatment is essential as soon as possible. The latest information regarding the treatment of overdosage can be obtained from the nearest poison centre.
Symptoms
Initially nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and upper abdominal pain associated with drawn, pale faces. Central nervous stimulation, dizziness or headache may be noted, followed by somnolence, lethargy or stupor. Early in the course there may be malaise or sluggishness followed by marked loss of muscle tone making voluntary movement impossible. The deep tendon reflexes may be decreased or absent. Respiratory depression may occur with rapid, irregular respiration and intercostal and substernal retraction. The blood pressure is lowered.
Liver damage which may be fatal may only appear after a few days. The chief biochemical changes noted in the blood are gross elevation of liver enzymes, some elevation of the bilirubin level, prolongation of prothrombin time and possibly either hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia.
Kidney failure has been described following acute intoxication.
Treatment
Gastric lavage or the induction of emesis (ipecac or apomorphine) followed by 50 grams of activated charcoal given orally to decrease absorption is the best available treatment and should be carried out immediately. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

CONDITIONS OF REGISTRATION:
None.

IDENTIFICATION:
Light blue, flat faced tablet, 11 mm in diameter, bevel-edged and scored on one face, hex-bevelled and imprinted "McNeil" on the reverse.

For muscle spasm: one tablet 3 or 4 times daily. The initial dosage for severe muscle spasm should be 2 tablets three or four times daily. If adequate response is not obtained with this dose it may be increased three or four times daily. As the condition improves the dosage can usually be reduced.

Usual Child's Dosage
One-half to two tablets (125 mg to 500 mg) three or four times daily given according to age and weight. The tablets may be crushed and mixed with food or a suitable vehicle for administration to children.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
(a) Adverse reactions
Occasional patients may develop gastrointestinal disturbances. It is possible, in rare instances, that chlorzoxazone may have been associated with gastrointestinal bleeding.
Drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, malaise or overstimulation may be noted by an occasional patient.
Rarely, allergic-type skin rashes, petechiae or ecchymoses may develop during treatment. Angioneurotic oedema and anaphylactic reactions are extremely rare.
Rarely, a patient may note discolouration of the urine resulting from a phenolic metabolite of chlorzoxazone. This finding is of no clinical significance.
Infrequent cases have been reported in which the administration of chlorzoxazone or chlorzoxazone containing products was suspected of causing liver damage. Several of these were subsequently determined to be due to underlying diseases rather than to chlorzoxazone (e.g. carcinoma of the head of the pancreas, carcinoma with hepatic metastases, cholelithiasis). The remaining cases had a clinical picture consistent with viral hepatitis or medicine-induced hepatitis. In all of the latter cases the medicine was stopped and the patient recovered. It is not possible to state that the hepatitis in these patients was or was not medicine-induced.

(b) Precautions
PARAFLEX tablets should be used with caution in patients with known allergies or with a history of allergic reactions to medicines. If a sensitivity reaction occurs such as urticaria, redness or itching of the skin, the medicines should be stopped.
If any signs or symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction are observed the medicine should be discontinued.
Drowsiness can occur with the use of PARAFLEX and may be additive to drownsiness from the concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Symptoms:
Initially gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea together with drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness or headache may occur. Early in the course there may be malaise or sluggishness followed by marked loss of muscle tone, making voluntary movement impossible. The deep tendon reflexes may be decreased or absent. The sensorium remains intact and there is no peripheral loss of sensation. Respiratory depression may occur with rapid irregular respiration and intercostal and substernal retraction. The blood pressure is lowered, but shock has not been observed.

Treatment:
Gastric lavage or induction of emesis should be carried out, followed by administration of the universal antidote. Thereafter treatment is entirely supportive. If respiration is depressed, oxygen and artificial respiration should be employed and a patent airway assured by the use of an oropharyngeal airway or endotracheal tube. Hypotension may be counteracted by the use of dextran plasma, concentrated albumin or a vasopressor agent such as noradrenaline. Cholinergic medicines or analeptic medicines are of no value and should not be used.

IDENTIFICATION:
Orange flat-faced tablet, 10,3 mm in diameter, bevel-edged and scored on one face, hex-bevelled and imprinted "McNeil" on second face.

PRESENTATION:
PARAFLEX tablets are available in bottles containing either 25 or 100 tablets per bottle.

It takes about 20 minutes to begin relieving pain. In the meantime, a warm pack on the lower abdomen helps a lot. Good luck.

You need prescriptions. You can buy tylenol with a small amount of codeine ( I think 8 grains) OTC. That's about it. You can get many drugs from pharmacies in Mexico...dunno if that's helpful.

Poll on over-the-counter pain relievers...?
Which OTC pain reliever do you prefer to use or is most effective at decreasing your pain?

a) Acetaminophen (Tylenol)

b) Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin)

c) Naproxen (Aleve)

d) Aspirin (Bayer, St. Joseph)

e) Ketoprofen (Orudis KT)

f) Combo pills of acetaminophen and aspirin (like Excedrin)

g) Other - if you choose "Other", please list
Sigh... only two answers so far. I need at least 30 for this to be an even remotely legitimate poll.

She don't have to live with those headaches if she doesn't want to.
Not knowing for sure where they are located, have her try this one for those that come from the back.
Place both her hands behind her head, the fingers on the muscle at the base of her skull. Pull into that muscle hard and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of her body. Wait 30 seconds and very slowly start to look down until her head is extended all the way. Then release the pressure and let her head rest there for one minute.
If her head pain is coming from someplace else, contact me and I'll help her get rid of it wifhout the need for anything else.

It is not just aspirin, but it is contraindicated with any NSAID allergy. This is heavy duty meds and you have to be careful. It is not to be taken for more than 5 days. I am including a link to a site that you should bookmark if you ever need to look up anything about a medication. RxList.com is a great resource

I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and i feel nauseous. why?
I'm taking 4 different kinds of meds, penicillin vk, diflunisal, oxycodone, and promethazine. the promethazine is supposed to counteract the nauseousness with the oxycodone (percoset), but everytime i stand up, i feel really hot and nauseous, even though its 68 degrees in my house. is this normal, and do you have any advice for me? and also, i'm supposed to be rinsing my mouth with saltwater today, how much salt to put in water for a quick rinse?
i'm positive i'm supposed to be on these, i wouldn't have them without a prescription from my doctor, duh, which means i'm supposed too. one of them is anti inflammatory and pain, the other is just anti inflammatory, the other is just pain, and the last is to not make me nauseous with the pain.

Nausea is normal after any surgery because of the pain medications and the anesthesia that you go under. Take it easy for a few days, and if it doesn't get better call the dentist. The promethazine helps with the nausea, but it might not help 100%. You might also feel this way because you're not eating like you normally do. Drink lots of water and juice and eat whatever you can.

As for the salt water, use as much as it takes for the water to taste salty. It's not an exact science.

Is anyone curently being treated with feldene?
I have psoriatic arthritis..have had it for over 30 years....the symptoms have been mild enough for hot showers, aspirin, and using the involved joints dispite swelling and pain when they flare but recently my M.D. has prescribed feldene-to take when needed for joint pain.

I was on it for a short period of time when it first came on the market, but my then physician had reservations and I've been able to avoid prescription meds for it until now....my lower back and both ankles/knees complain too much at this point and the aspirin only gives partial relief....he tells me it's almost as safe as aspirin...I'm wondering if anyone else is using it and how successful the pain relief/management has been with it...thanx....
so far I tolerate feldene well....it seems to inhance the diuretic I take for my BP lol so I hafta co-ordinate the two...the first time I used it (when it first came out) it kicked in within 24 hrs and the relief was complete...now it takes about 3 days before I notice a difference, but then all major joints are now involved, not just one like before.....was wondering if anyone has noticed this....and has had any of the side effects....thanx for all replies-arthritis stinks, huh......

I tried the medication Feldene years ago when I was trying to figure out what was causing the muscle pain in my left thigh area (which later turned out to be arthritis). I had a hard time handling the medication even with food because it made me so sick to my stomach.

The one that I found helpful later on was one called Relafen.

My 41yr old sister is taking Abdominal Cuts supplements with perscription meds, aspirin, atenolol, and maxzide.?
My sister, she's 41 African American and 200lbs, and works out 3 times a weeks. She has 3 prescription's Aspirin 81mg, Maxzide 50/75mg, and Atenolol 50mg. Her Doctor said it was okay to take Abdominal Cuts by Revolutionlifestyle.com (Corr-Jensen Labs). She doesn't drink or smoke. I am worried. Is this product safe to take with her medication?

Sorry, this is one of those questions people don't want to touch with a ten-foot pole. Notice that nobody else has answered in a week? The reason is that this is a complex medical question and needs to be answered by a doctor -- in person. Even if a doctor were to read this question online, he wouldn't answer it in specific terms without seeing your sister face to face, reviewing her medical history, and probably doing a blood work-up.

In the meantime, while you're trying to figure out the answer to your question, it is best to assume it is unsafe to mix all of these together. From what I can gather here, her doctor has approved her using Abdominal Cuts, but not with the prescription drugs she's taking. Prescription drug taking will alter body chemistry in so many ways. Please encourage her to see her doctor soon if she wants to mix another product into this chemical soup. There are side effects any time you stir something else into the pot.

God bless your sister -- and you -- for helping her.

How long do the effects of an oxycodone hydrochloride 15 last?

  Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to answer your question, because this is going to vary from person to person. The duration of effect will depend on whether the drug is rapid or controlled release for starters, but also on how severe your pain is, your body size and rate of metabolism, your tolerance to oxycodone, whether you've eaten/drunk. And so on. At a guess though, just based on my own experience, I would say between two to five hours for a rapid release, and seven to twelve hours for a controlled release.

Sorry that I can't give you a more precise answer.

What does the M stand for on Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills?
Wendy

Reply
Many different companies manufacture oxycodone under their own names.
Oxycontin, for example, is manufactured solely by Purdue Pharma.

The Oxycodone pill with the "M" stamp (M30, for example) is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. Hence, the "M".

Another example would be Oxycodone stamped with A215, which is manufactured by Actavis US... Hence, the "A".
