Atenolol VS Enalapril Maleate? I had 25mg of Atenolol for around 4 year. Utill recently I have some heart racing during office our(Sitting). Then then doctor change the medicine to Enalapril Maleate(Renitec). Taken for around 2 weeks. I read that Enalapril Maleate(5mg) may cause RENAL will Atenolol do so. 25mg of Atenolol VS Enalapril Maleate(5mg) which one is better if consider side effect and safe for prolong use? I'm assuming you are on these drugs for high blood pressure. Both drugs have a strong evidence base supporting their use as blood pressure lowering agents and many years of wider clinical experience. Recently however, a trial called ASCOT suggested that a blood pressure lowering regimen based on an ACE inhibitor (like enalapril) was more effective in reducing the risk of some cardiovascular complications long term (mainly stroke). ACE inhibitors are the BP lowering treatment of choice in some groups, including diabetics and those at high cardiovascular risk. Beta-blockers still have a role and any patients already on beta-blockers, whos BP is now well controlled should probably stay on them since BP control is the optimal goal. ACE inhibitors are very well tolerated drugs. Approximately 10% of patients will develop a troublesome dry cough and around 20% may have a temporary reduction in renal function (kidney function) which is often transient and simply requires close monitoring. Hey, look on the packing it came in, or if you dont have that, look on the bottle, if its in one. It might tell you. i looked it up and got this in the info for side effects.... "Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather. Chlorpheniramine can decrease perspiration and you may be more prone to heat stroke." well first off. all those products you mention will only treat the symptoms___there is NO cure for the common cold. staying away from large groups of people and diligently washing your hands around infectious people are good ways to stop yourself from getting it. lots of sleep and lots of fluids are the only things that help me. be careful if your like me and a lot of others--dont take any cold medication that has any ingredient with the words ephedrine or ephrine; lots of folks get high blood pressure , heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, restlessness, and hypersensitivity from it, and its used in a LOT of cold medications.	mickey 09/17/06

In smaller doses I have seen prochlorperazine used as an antiemetic (to prevent nausea). It is a dopamine blocker so it may reduce the nausea and dizziness you feel with your infection. It is definitely not an antibiotic to clear up infections though. You shouldn't drink with this drug because it is really hard on the liver. When people are on it long term them will monitor for liver damage. In the small dose you are probably taking liver damage should not be an issue. That is unless you drink. Alcohol even in small doses puts your liver into overdrive putting even more strain on it than the prochlorperazine alone. Also the alcohol will slow the livers ability to breakdown the prochlorperazine and cause it to build up to toxic levels in the body. So for the sake of your liver don't drink!	nsnurse 11/21/07
