Duoneb vs albuterol?
I have been on duoneb(inhaler and neublized) a couple years. I started to feel a lot of tightness between shoulders so I started a trial of spiriva so had to get albuterol. I did not really find the spiriva to be working as I expected to be able to cut down on nebulizer and inhaler. I quit the spiriva and tried my duoneb in neb again. Got the tightness again. Feels like a knee in my back. Tried albuterol in neb and it works fine. Could I have built up an intolerance to the other med in duoneb? |

| | Here is the list of side effects one may experience while using Duoneb. I would recommend that you speak with either your doctor or pharmacist about your concerns. I used Duoneb for a short time, but the side effects were horrible. I switched to albuterol without ipratropium, and do much better.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, coughing, dry mouth or sinus congestion may occur. If these continue or are bothersome, notify your doctor. Uncommon effects include: palpitations or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, change in sputum color (infection). Very unlikely but report: dizziness, nervousness, hair loss, fever, coordination problems. In the unlikely event you have a serious allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. |

I need information about deaths related to spiriva?
I have just heard about some deaths related to spiriva. My mother passed away in January of 2006 and was taking this medication for c.o.p.d. Any documented evidence I can recieve would be very helpful. |

| | Spiriva hasn't caused any deaths to my knowledge. There is potential for Spiriva to cause death if someone were to use it as a rescue medication, which it is definitely not. Inappropriate use of any medication can result in harm or death.
COPD can result in death because it is a chronic and progressive disease that decreases the patient's lung function and makes it significantly harder to breathe as the disease progresses.
I have treated an end-stage COPD patient who could only manage an oxygen saturation of 75% on a non-rebreather mask. That was the best we could do for him because he didn't want to go on a ventilator and we know there is nothing we can do to help him even if he is on a ventilator. COPD is like that. The person with it just fades away over a period of years, getting increasingly sick, going on home oxygen, taking all sorts of respiratory medications, and very likely ending-up in the hospital for their last days. We really can't do anything except keep their home medications and oxygen settings going, nursing would manage pain control, if it were needed.
Spiriva is a good drug. Unless you are allergic to something that composes it, you should be fine. I take Spiriva for my asthma and it hasn't caused me any problems in the two months I have been taking it. It doesn't do much, but takes the edge off my shortness of breath when I'm going up stairs. |

Can using Spiriva make you gain a weight or keep you from losing it even if you eat properly and excercise?
My wife gained over 45lbs after quitting smoking. She eats healthy and excercises regularly. But she is not losing any weight. Can Spiriva be the cause? |

What are the alternatives to "SPIRIVA"? COPD?
My wife Has COPD and SPIRIVA is very Expensive we can not offer to buy , our Doctor gave us 'COMBIVENT ' as alternative but they no longer import this Med to where we live which is in Jordan . and the Doctor said its either Spiiva or Combivent no other way .. So dose anyone has other Suggestion . Thx |

| | like spiriva of course there is no other drug... but...you can also use for COPD symbicort, atrovent!!! it will help as well..slow down the disease and provide relief from symptoms. |

Can a spiriva inhaler be used for ecstasy?
I heard of people snorting them for stronger effects or even putting them up their butt for longer, stronger effects but wouldn't a spiriva inhaler put it right in my lungs where it would go into my blood stream. And thank you in advance to those who tell me not to do drugs I appreciate your input. |

Is Spiriva the new miracle for COPD?
Has anyone with COPD tried the new med "spiriva" and noticed a significant amount of improvement with their breathing? if so, can you run 2 miles without letting COPD slow you down? Can you live a more active lifestyle with it and do the things you've always wanted to do such as running a long distance and holding your breath longer? I want to know more about this new med and how much would it cost me with health insurance. Please give me answers....Thank you! |

| | matt and masters property are both correct.
Matt's point of spiriva (tiotropium bromide) being the same as Atrovent (ipratropium bromide) is mostly true. They are in the same anticholinergic drug class.
Master's Property's point of spiriva being in its own class is also true because it is the only anticholinergic drug that is long acting and last for up to 24 hours per dose (one 18mcg capsule). Atrovent lasts about 6-8 hours so you would have to take it more often. Also Spiriva is in powder form and Atrovent is an aerosol.

| | Only cocaine or a cocaine derivative such as codeine(prescription painkillers) will give a positive result. If required to take a drug test and not using illegal drugs they ask you to list all prescription, over the counter drugs you are using including Vitamin/Mineral Supplements and Herbs for they want to be as accurate as possible and do not wish for anyone to have a positive reading unless so deserved. If you're in doubt can always go have own drug test done -usually around $50.00. |

Emergency! What should I do, I swallowed a Spiriva inhalation powder capsule?
This is a tiotropium bromide powder that is in a capsule. I take alot of medications, and I was holding it in my hand to put in the inhaler,and I just forgot, and threw it in my mouth and swallowed! |

| | Don't worry about it. Acute intoxication by inadvertent oral ingestion of SPIRIVA capsules is unlikely since it is not well-absorbed systemically. You could have read this off of the packet and had an answer much sooner! |

I just swallowed a Spiriva by accident and it says do not swallow, what should I do?
I mean total accident, I took my other meds with water, and I was about to put that thing into the inhaler, I swallowed it... I got a very important presentation in school today, but I mean it say don't swallow... Should I call 911? My doctor? Or its just a precaution? Anyone know?
#2 no need to be a bitch... I have no medical experience, and was worried, ok... |

| | I accidentally did the same thing, there were no adverse effects, they tell you not to swallow it because you will waste the capsule, it cannot relieve your COPD if it is in your gut not your lungs. Go to your presentation, good luck. |

Anyone experience doube vision when using Spiriva?
Doc just started me on it and the first day I started on it I had trouble with double vision a few times. Just wondering if it can be a side effect of this drug or if anyone else out there experienced this while using it. I've never had this happen to me before and I'm wondering if it's from the new drug in my system. |
