Is Valium a depressant and is it addictive?
My 77 yr old mother has taken Valium since the 1970's. She quit smoking about 15 yrs ago because she has emphysema. She is sort of a nervous person who worries about everything so she has always taken Valium to help with that anxiety. Now, at 77, she is depressed and thinks life is basically over, and when she gets low on Valium her worrying gets worse. Seems to me she is hooked on Valium and it is aiding in her depression. Any thoughts on that? |

Valium........?
I have to get my wisdom teeth out in a few weeks, and the doctor is having me take a 10mg valium before the surgery, but i am getting knocked out too..so why do ihave to take the valium.....i am just confused
well i know some people who have went there and didnt get valium, and he also said that i have tmd..tempormandibular disorder from clenching my teeth, would that have any thing to do with it.. |

| | Because your dentist doesn't want you in a panic while he is trying to put you out.
I had my wisdom teeth out with Novocain only. Personally, I think the anesthesia is far worse than the extractions. Mine were even impacted (in the bone) and they came out fine with just the Novocaine. |

How long after taking valium course can I have glass of wine?
I just finished 4 day course of valium - one 5mg tablet at night for 4 nights ( for muscle cramps)
How soon can I safely have a glass of two of red wine (my passion). Note: I am not asking if I can take alcohol WHILE taking valium. I didnt do that nor would I. |

How good is Valium for anxiety and as a muscle relaxer?
My doc is prescribing Valium for me to get rid of the feeling of a lump in my throat. I was just wondering how well it would work. |

| | That lump in your throat isn't about muscles - it's about anxiety. I used to get that sort of thing all the time and the docs prescribed valium for me too. It works pretty well at helping alleviate your stress. Be sure to avoid taking it during the day until you become more accustomed to it, and definitely don't drive until you're completely comfortable with it. Part of what makes us good drivers is our ability to react to stressful situations (i.e. oncoming traffic, accidents, stupid pedestrians), so be particularly cautious about driving. |

I am Getting all 4 wisdom teeth out a week from today =(...?
The doctor prescribed me valium, tylenol Elixer with codeine and phenergan. can the valium make me nauseous? b.c the phenergan is for nausea. Or is it for the tylenol w/ codeine, can that make me feel sick? Also I am SUPER anxious already, and am actually a severely anxious person in everyday life, can this valium cause me to stop breathing? they want me to take 1 the night before, with no food or water after Midnight. then 2 as soon as I wake up before I leave to come into the clinic? THEN when I get there they're going to put me on an IV pumping Valium into me.. does that seem like a little much? im 19, female, and only weigh 100 lbs. I am SO scared that Im going to gave a bad reaction to these drugs, hell I don't even like to take advil.
I have to get them pulled because there is no room in my mouth for any more teeth, theyre already close to being crowded...
all of them are empacted.. |

| | Don't be worried. I went through the procedure. Unless you have impacted teeth or they're coming in sideways or some other funny angle you'll be fine. Although the valium seems a bit over the top, I too was prescribed Tylenol-3 and I also had IBuprofen-800 for the sweelling. I didn't have any impacted teeth and they were all the right direction (even though my circumstances were the same, no more room)! I was put under for surgery and I woke up with no issue. I got to suck on some gauze for about 3 days and shoot water into craters the teeth left, but I barely used any of my pain meds and only used the I800 when my cheeks looked like I was storing acorns :P
Long story short, don't be so anxious; there's no reason. It's a safe procedure and you're in the hands of professionals :) Good luck! |

Valium and Nubain question....?
I am having a procedure done in a few days. My doctor said he will be using valium and nubain to sedate me. Will this most likely cause me to fall asleep or just relaxed. Very nervous anything will help. Thanks to everyone... |

How well does valium work for fear of flying?
I have to make a 10 hour flight in a couple of weeks. I haven't flown in approx. 3 years and the last time I flew I pretty much freaked out. My doctor prescribed valium and I was wondering if anyone could let me know how well it works. |

| | I've never taken it myself but a relative of mine used to take it in times of anxiety. As I understand it Valium gives you a sense of calm and should also make you slightly drowsy, or relaxed and peaceful enough to drift off to sleep. In view of this it would work very well for someone who fears flying. However, if it makes you really drowsy and you end up sleeping all through the flight you could have a really bad case of jet-lag and still feel drowsy a day or two after the flight. However, if you are as fearful of flying as you say, you might think it is worth the risk.

One of my friends gave me alot of valium she told me it would tack my pain a way.Shoud i tack it? How much should i tack?All i told here was i felt alittile down.Is this ok to tack?

Is It Safe To Take Valium With Steroids ?
Purely for my paper research, i need to know if someone was taking Valium and also Anadrol 50 or Dianabol together ( For less than 5 weeks), would it be safe? What would happen? Thanks

| | Your best (and safest) bet would be to ask a pharmacist if there are any interactions listed between the drugs you're looking at. Doctors and pharmacists both have access to a database of drug and supplement interactions and they can tell you quickly if you can safely take them together or not.... anyone here will just have a best guess from searching on the internet (which isn't always accurate, as we all know) ;-) Good luck with your paper! |

is there any continual feed system similar to a baclofen pump, that can be used to deliver valium?
Looking for a better delivery system for valium other than by pill. Need to have a slower and more even release. Injection into the muscle works but not fesiable. An IV injection is too much too fast. |

How does Valium feel compared to other benzodiazepines?
Xanax is like a fast euphoric rush,Klonopin is a nice slow euphoric slide, and Ativan is a dull euphoric buzz. How would you describe valium (diazepam)? Ive never tried it- I want to tho. But how does it feel compared to the other big 3? |

| | I certainly can't endorse or recommend you abuse benzodiazepines but I will give you some information.
Valium (diazepam) is among the most widely used and abused benzodiazepines. Valium has a faster onset of action compared to Klonopin, Xanax, or Ativan and the peak plasma concentration of Valium occurs between 30-60 min on healthy adults. Valium lasts longer than most other benzodiazepines. The half-life of diazepam and its active metabolites (nordiazepam, oxazepam, and temazepam) can last for 120hrs. Due to its long duration and less significant ups and downs, Valium is extremely effective for alcohol, benzodiazepine, or barbiturate withdrawal.
Unlike Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax Valium is not very potent.
10 mg diazepam = 0.5 mg Xanax = 0.5 mg Klonopin = 1 mg Ativan.
Officially the maximum dose of Valium is 40 mg/day although in some situations larger doses are given.
It is impossible for anyone to know what you may experience if you take Valium or any other drug. Some people fall asleep, some act drunk, some feel nothing, and so on. I have taken Valium and it helped my anxiety, made me a bit sleepy at first, and that is it- no buzz or euphoria. It sounds like you "enjoyed" your prior experiences with benzodiazepines so you will likely have a similar effect. If you have used benzodiazepines a lot you may not feel much from Valium except at an extremely high dose due to its low potency. Valium also tends to cause more tiredness. For the most part the difference in effects is due to the dose, the duration of action, and onset of action.
I certainly won't give you the "drugs are bad" lecture but make sure you know what you are dealing with. If you chose to use any medication make sure you know the dose and any potential drug interactions with other substances you may take. Generally people don't typically become addicted to benzodiazepines unless they abuse other drugs but the small percent of people who do become truly addicted to benzodiazepines alone have a terrible time. And since high dose/long term use leads to physical dependency in up to 1/2 of users it can be particularly dangerous because withdrawal can be life threatening. |

How well does Valium work on anxiety at a dental visit?
I'm going to get some cavities filled in 2 weeks. Because of my SEVERE fear of the dentist and needles, they prescribed 20mg of Valium one hour before the appointment. I've never taken it before. How well does it work to ease anxiety? And does it really have an effect on your pain tolerance like I've read? Anyone have any experience with it being used in this capacity? |

A friend of mine snorted a small line of a Valium and is worried about a drug test. She thinks it's an extended drug test and she is about 100lbs. The drug test is in 2 days. She has been drinking a lot of water. What are her chances of passing? |

1) STUPID for snorting valium. It's a good way to end up with diseased sinuses, and possibly get a trip to the ER and even the morgue. Valium wasn't designed to be taken in through the sinuses, and there are additives in the pills that can cause all kinds of sinus problems.
2) Screwed. Valium stays in the blood for 7-10 days, and there is no way your friend will pass a drug test in 2 days. Drinking water won't help - there is nothing but time, and lots of it, that will clear the drug from her system, and your friend just doesn't have enough time. Passing the drug test just isn't going to happen.
I'm sorry for your friend, but I hope she learns a lesson from this. Please don't take it personally, but anyone stupid enough to actually snort valium deserves to fail the drug test and whatever consequences follow. |
