VOLTAREN aka Diclofenac Sodium...Have you taken it?Reactions?Side effects? How long did it take 2 work?
I was prescribed this for mild/severe back pain and I'm wondering if it worked for anyone else or how it felt when they took it, if it relieved the pain as well? I have Darvocet as well that my Doc. said I could take but I didn't know if it will be necessary to take that on top of Voltaren.

what is the equivalent of OTC Ibuprofen to prescription Voltaren?
I was prescribed 50 mg Voltaren twice per day, but my doctor also said that I could take OTC Ibuprofen instead if I preferred. How much ibuprofen would be the equivalent?

I think you would need the extra strength liquid gels as an equivalent.

How long does Voltaren stay in your system?
My husband was prescribed Voltaren last year when his back went out and when he went back to work soon after that, he quit taking the medicine because he was worried it would stay in his system too long. His job calls for random drug testing once in a while and right now, even though it's been about 7 months, he wants to be sure it will be out of his system by sometime tomorrow. Can anyone help? By the way, we both know of the serious side effects and that is one of the reasons he quit taking it after a couple times. Thanks in advance!

Voltaren is just an extra strength NSAID. It wouldn't be of any concern if it showed up in a drug test. It doesn't stay in system long. Like an Advil would.

Voltaren is a type of pain drug. It decreases pain by its anti-inflammatory properties. It will not get you high, no matter how much you take. It is not a narcotic pain reliever and does not create the type of effect that you are obviously seeking.
What it will do, if you take too much, is give you horrible stomach pain.

Any pharmasists out there that can help me out??

The best things to use for a sunburn are aloe vera or Noxzema cream. the aloe vera will soothe and heal it and is very good for it. Noxzema will ease the pain a sunburn causes and will help to keep it from peeling so bad. I prefer the aloe vera tho.

Is Diclofenac (Catiflan and Voltaren-XR) prescription?
Someone recommended I carry Dielofenac in my first aid kit while I am hiking in the wilderness. It, apparently, is a much better pain killer than Asprin. It would be for emergency use only. Do I need a prescription for this?

You still need a prescription to get it. Take aspirin, ibuprofen, and maybe Tylenol with you. I don't care for Tylenol personally because it can cause liver damage. Check with your MD about what would best to carry that is stronger than NSAIDS. Diclofenac is for arthritis. You may need something else for emergency severe pain.

Is it okay to take Cymbalta and Voltaren at the same time?
Cymbalta has brought about amazing positive results in my case. I have no bad side effects as with other antidepressants. However, I read that it should not be taken with antiinflamatory medications which I need also.

can voltaren make you test positive for bensos?
I tested positive for bensos and have done no drugs. I do however have a prescription for voltarin. Could this have resulted in the positive drug test?

Voltaren usually shows up as a false positive for marijuana. Have you taken any prescription sleeping pills or anti-aniety medications?

This is a pretty good list:

Does anyone know about tendinitis?
I went to the Orthopedic Dr. for ankle and foot pain. Ive had this pain for about 6 months and it was caused by something falling onto my foot. Since I did not have insurance nobody was willing to take a look at it. So I just dealt with it. I got a splint from walgreens and used it as needed. Well now the pain is so bad no matter what Iam doing( even kicking the blanket off at night causes a horrible pain.) Seeing how ive been hurting for so long I do not really limp from it anymore. although I do get pain. Well the Dr I went to was a complete A**. He said since Im not limping, that im not in pain meaning nothing is really wrong with me. He did xrays just to check and it showed no broken bones. He said he thinks its tendinitis and gave me Voltaren Xr 100mg and told me to take it every day for a month and sent me on my way. and also to make sure i wear shoes ALL the time except when i shower. Sorry but im not sleeping in shoes!!Do you think this is the right treatment and should give it a try or should i seek a 2nd opinion

This kind of treatment that was recommend concerns me. I would recommend getting another opinion, including from a Podiatrist (a doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases of the foot and ankle but can sometimes do more to try and figure out what the problem is) to see what they think could be going on.

If you have other questions for me about what it's like to go to a Podiatrist please feel free to
e-mail me off site any time.

Need Back Pain/Headache Relief Recommendations?
I have suffered from a pretty bad herniated disc in my lower back for the past 3 years. I am 48 now. Over this time, I have had various injection procedures, that have produced little relief, unfortunately. My doctor doesn't think my condition warrants a 'strong' painkiller and he is so afraid of me getting addicted (I have no evidence of addiction in my medical history), that the only drug he has agreed to prescribe for me is one called Voltaren XR, which helps somewhat, but I wish I could have something stronger because I personally think it warrants it. I'm going to see him again soon and talk to him again about it, but I am not too hopeful. Anyway, this condition has limited me somewhat in my daily activities over this time. However, lately, like in the last week or so, I have noticed my back pain has dramatically increased for some unknown reason, and along with it, very persistent painful headaches. Usually, when I have had a headache in the past, some aspirin would take care of it. But since the onset of this increased back pain, aspirin does little if anything to ease the headache pain. I haven't tried any of those so-called 'extra strength' headache remedies yet. I am 99% convinced my headache pain is due to the increased back pain, as the headaches began at exactly the same time as the increased back pain. All I have been able to do is stretch, and lie on a heating pad to gain some relief, but it is very annoying, as the headaches just persist for hours and hours. The headaches are more bothersome actually than the back pain, although that also is noticeably worse. Why all of a sudden my back pain is worse and these headaches, I don't know. I don't recall having strained my back lately or anything. The seasons are changing from winter to spring...maybe that might have something to do with it. But I am really at a loss to explain it. I was thinking of maybe trying one of those OTC back pain products like Doan's Pills, but I really don't know if they are effective. If you've used one of these products and found relief let me know, as I don't want to waste money on something that won't help. And also something for the headaches...I could try those extra strength products, but again, who knows. Again, if you could recommend a good product or products to try for back/headache pain resulting from this condition, please let me know. I don't know where I am going with this back condition. I am considering chiropractic...what have I got to lose. Surgery has been mentioned, but I know with surgery it's a gamble, sometimes you get better, sometimes you actually might get worse. It is very frustrating. And then you see all these so called 'gimmicks' advertised everywhere for back pain because it is so common, you really don't know what works and what doesn't.. I don't want to do any more injections, I'm fed up with them. If you have any other general thoughts or suggestions, please share them with me, as I am starting to feel a bit desperate. Thanks.

Getting a more supportive mattress can help you out. We spend a lot of time sleeping and if you are sleeping on a soft mattress when you have a back injury, this can really intensify the pain. Your back has to be well-supported. You might want to consider getting a memory foam mattress with at least 4 pounds of density. This should provide a good amount of back support.

Starting treatment with an anti-inflammatory product is okay. However, if you are not feeling much better within a couple weeks consider being seen by a podiatrist (DPM, specializes in feet, surgical and non-surgical) or physiatrist (MD, rehabilitation medicine). The orthopedist did not see anything upon which to operate, his specialty interest, thereby you are of secondary concern to a person with his training.
