Advil cold and sinus and xanax?
I take xanax for panic disorder. I've got a cold going on-stuffy nose, cough, sinus pressure. I was wondering if xanax and advil cold and sinus is a bad combination? Thanks!

That should be no problem, but it wouldn't hurt to call any pharmacist. Just look up "Pharmacies" in the Yellow Pages if you need a 24-hour pharmacy. :)

Will it be bad if I take 8 advil cold and sinus instead of 6 in a 24 hour period?
Help. Advil Cold and sinus is only effective for me if I take 2. Right now I have the most miserable cold, and I can't sleep at night now. But I have already taken 6 in the last 24 hours. (The previous day I might have taken more than 6 in 24.... so would it be bad if I did it again?)

probably not a huge abuse, in terms of toxicity, but a small abuse. the liver has to process the ibuprofen, and filter out the solids. over time, it could cause renal problems and or liver damage. if you only do it a couple of times, chances are, you'll be fine and not suffer overly much.
just to be safe, why not just according to directions, though? good luck.

Can I drink alcohol after taking advil cold and sinus?
Ive had a cold for a few days. Today I took advil cold and sinus (day) so I could go out for my friends birthday. We are going out and everyone will be drinking. I was wondering if it will be ok to drink or if I should just stick to water.

None of those will happen to you. That just happens to random freaks. The kind of people who take tylenol and wind up in the emergency room. Take the Advil and relax.

Best way to get rid of sinus pain/headache FAST?
I already irrigated my sinuses this morning. I have taken zyrtec and used rhinocort twice already. I also used optivar eyedrops. I've been drinking a lot of water. It feels like my head is going to explode. The only other things I have on me are benadryl, aleve and pamprin. I can't fall asleep, so I don't know about the benadryl. Maybe the aleve for the temple pain?

Is it ok to take advil cold and sinus with XYZAL (a 24 hour allergy medicine)?
I just took a pill of XYZAL for allergies and to try to help my stuffiness. It has not helped my stuffed nose at all, and it is supposed to work / last for 24 hours. Is it ok to mix this with and take advil cold and sinus?

Is it ok to take Advil Cold & Sinus as well as NyQuil? ?
I've been suffering from some illness for about a week and it seems to be starting to break up. I've been taking the Advil Cold and Sinus to keep the pressure out of my sinuses. However, it's a decongestant. NyQuil is an expectorant, so I'm hoping to take it as well and help the infection purge itself.

My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

Which is better? Allegra-D or Advil sinus?
For all you allergy sufferers out there do you find that taking Advil cold and sinus works better than Allegra D or Claritin D or even zyrtec D? None of these work for me, and my sinuses are pretty bad during allergy season, but that is the only part that bothers me so all I need is a good decongestant and Allegra zyrtec or claritin dont seem to do the trick, so i was wondering if advil cold and sinus works better?

How long does the common cold usually last for?
I've had the common cold since tuesday, and i've been treating it pretty good. I've been getting a lot of rest, drinking A LOT of organic ginger & honey tea, and juice boxes (that have 100% vitamin c.) Im also blowing my nose often, and I've been taking Tylenol for cold. My sinus has also cleared quite a bit too. How much longer to do you think it will be till my cold is gone? Do you think it'll be gone by tommorow? Do you have any tips to treat it?

Would swallowing Advil Cold and Sinus whole make it work?
I have a phobia of swallowing pills. It's always been that way....

Anyway, I always chew regular Tylenol and it still works perfectly. However, I recently purchased advil cold an sinus and chewed it *slightly*, and it didn't help me AT ALL. Not even one bit of a difference. I had taken 2 of them

Would swallowing it whole make it work? Make it have an effect on me?

Yes that is what it is meant for (to swallow whole). It may take longer to get into your system though.

Correction: Chewing it shouldn't make it less potent. If you are sick and taking meds for it, sometimes it just doesn't feel like ANYTHING will work. Drink plenty of fluids and go to bed.

How long should I wait to take Aleve after taking Advil? How many Aleve can I take?
Both of my legs are in a lot of pain from exercising (and lack of preparation before the exercises). Two hours ago I took two advil, which have not helped. The aleve bottle says for the first dose (I've never taken it before), you can take two pills within the first hour. Is it safe for me to take two pills? When can I take these two pills or just one?

how old are you, whats your weight, and how many mg are in each pill ? these can play a factor. you can probably take 2 on 4 hour intervals of the 2 different pain killers.

aleve.>4hours> advil >4hours> aleve.

i would ask a doctor before trying though

How Long Does the Allergic Reaction to Aleve Last?
I took Aleve for 5 days and I stopped taking it 10 days ago. I developed itching hands and feet and swollen lips, which I understand is a possible allergic reaction to Aleve. My doctor can't tell me how long it will last. I am controlling the symptoms with Benedryl, but this makes me very sleepy. How long will this last?

A day after i used both, i hade a huge heada he, my nose hurt when i blew it, had a sore throat. Symptoms of a bad fever/cold.

Sometimes when an infection is killed off, it will leave behind raw, damaged skin that hurts worse until the body carries the dead bacteria and toxins away and it can start to heal. Your body absorbing the dead bacteria and toxins could also give you a headache or flu-like symptoms. This would be a mild Herx reaction. Could just be the pressure in your sinuses changing that's giving you a headache.

How much aleve and advil can I take on the same day?

The Aleve is fine to take every day for a month, even longer, so long as you stay within the dose on the bottle. Aleve is an anti-inflammatory that used to be prescribed as a prescription for periods well over one month for joint and back injuries, and for arthritis. It has a package insert that describes all the side effects, the ones most people actually experience are bleeding tendency, and rebound headaches. A rebound headache is one you get because you STOPPED taking an anti-inflammatory, and a cup of caffeinated tea usually gets rid of it.

The package says not to exceed one week without speaking to your doctor. That is not because of the *Aleve*, it is because if you are in enough pain to take it every day for more than a week, you may have a problem you should be seeing a doctor about... And maybe you should.

Back pain is sometimes not to hard to fix with the right exercise or activity, like walking, swimming or yoga, a little physical therapy, and if your problem is not inflammation, but something like muscle spasm, you are suffering needlessly. On the other hand some back pain is not easily treated, and when you DO go to the doctor, if that is likely true for you, he will likely tell you to take Aleve for a month or two and see if that does it for you :)

What does the cold have to do with getting a cold?
The common cold is caused by viruses, particularly rhinovirus. But, then how come if ur outside in the winter for too long, or get cold it makes you sick/get a cold? I know it happens, but i just don't know why it happens. what's the relationship between being cold and a cold?
Like when you're outside playing in the snow for a few hours, then u come inside and ur feet are all cold. and then ur nose starts dripping, then u start coughing, and tats how it all starts. so there MUST be some kind of relationship.

Because the human body operates at an optimal temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Whenever the body temperature is lower than this, the immune system becomes weak, some white blood cells die, and bacteria/viruses have an easier time in taking over your system- thus getting you sick.

Also, the easiest way to lower your body temperature is (voila) to go outside in the cold air, which makes you colder as well, since the temperature in the air is loewr than the temperature in your body.

Lastly, the reason length has to do with it is because for a time, your clothing keeps a good amount of heat trapped inside. But after awhile, your body cannot heat itself/the clothes fast enough to keep warm. Once this happens, you get sick even MORE fast, since not only are you cold, but your body has wasted alot of energy in keeping you warm. So the longer you are in the cold, the colder you get, and the weaker your body gets, and the easier it is to catch a virus/bacteria/infection.

Is it safe to mix Advil cold with Excedrin?
I took some advil cold and it helped the sinus pressure and runny nose but I still have a killer headache. The active ingredients in Advil are ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine and in excedrin acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. I can't find any helpful articles on google. Thanks.

It is usually not the best option to mix and match medicines like that. I would wait to take the Excedrin until the cold medicine has worn off, just to be safe. There's just too many different ingredients here to make a safe cocktail.

If you really need relief, you could call up a pharmacist and try asking them what else you could try, or how long to wait.

I think that's crazy! But then again, that's how we learned in the past. Produce a product, sell it on the market, then 20 years down the road when health hazards start appearing in large numbers, we realize it's not so healthy.

There are different types of pain medication, and they all tackle slightly different pains.

Aleve is naproxen, and that is usually for joints and when they swell. I take that for when I have knee strain or hip joint pain. It takes longer to kick in, and you take one dose for like 12 hours.

Tylenol, or acetominophen, is more of a blood thinner, which is why it is best for fever and headaches, whenever your blood vessels would be constricted and cause pain. Tylenol takes like 15 mins to kick in and lasts around 4-6 hours.

Advil or ibuprofen, usually is used to relax muscles, like when you strain your muscles or when they ache. I would actually recommend this for cramping, as your uterus is a muscle. The only downside to Advil is that if you take a lot over and over, that it can cause stomach problems which are no fun. But taking it every once in awhile to cure a muscle ache for a few days won't hurt you. It also takes around 15 mins to kick in and lasts 4-6 hours.

Oh, and to make cramping really disappear when meds don't work, a heating pad, or a washcloth you dampen and put in the microwave for a few seconds... I find that works best. Baths don't usually do it for me, and netier do showers.

Asthma and cold problem?
I am a chronic asthma and cold/sinus patient for the past 20 years. I am taking citrizen, theoasthalin and occasionally pain killers since I get heavy back paint. My doctor has now prescribed Polaramine tablets.

Off late I am doing yoga regularly and do not take much of swetts and oily items which increases my asthma.

Is there any alternatie to Theoasthaline tablets/inhaler, since I feel very weak now.

Does cold temperature have any correlation with getting or worsening a cold?
I know that colds are caused by viruses, but some people still insist that going out in the cold rain (for example) can cause you to get sick. Is there any sort of correlation with cold temperature and getting a cold? For example, do cold viruses live longer in a colder environment, or do is the immune system weaker in cold weather, etc...

One thing that is interesting is that the illness itself is called a "cold", so originally that must have been what people thought caused it.

the cold temperatures lower the immune systems ability to fight the viruses and also mean runny noses and such thus spreading the virus around more. this is also the time of year most viruses start to spread from asia ( where a lot of them come from )

Aleve is no different than ibuprofen or aspirin. It relieves pain but does NOT get you high. And for some folks it doesn't even relieve pain.
I prefer ibuprofen for pain relief but it won't get you high either.

Can Restasis make sinus problems worse?
I think I'm seeing a correlation between sinus problems and restasis. Since restasis is an immunosuppresant and drains into the sinus area, this doesn't seem unreasonable. Is it a known issue? Anyone else experience the same thing?

I'm looking at the "Adverse Reactions" section for Restasis in the PDR for Ophthalmic Medicines. It states: "The most common adverse event following the use of Restasis was ocular burning (17%). Other events reported in 1% to 5% of patients included conjunctival hyperemia [redness], discharge, epiphora [excessive watering or tearing], eye pain, foreign body sensation, pruritus [itching], stinging and visual disturbance (most often blurring)."

What's more likely going on is that your underlying condition is causing all of your symptoms, including what may appear to be a worsening of your sinusitis. In other words, your sinusitis, or whatever the diagnosis may be, is worsening all on its own or is being treated ineffectively. If you really feel that the drops are to blame, try an experiment. Stop using the medication for at least a week. If you're right, you should experience an improvement in your symptoms.

Constant dry cough that keeps coming back?
For the past two years, I've had this painful, dry cough that comes and goes. I get it a lot during the fall, winter, and spring, but am cough-free during the summer. Usually, my cough is accompanied by a sinus infection (which I have gotten three times in the past year, and have repeatedly taken antibiotics for) but I don't always get the cough with the sinusitis. I've gotten an x-ray of my lungs and they're fine, and I've received treatment for asthma, but the cough won't go away. I often get coughing fits followed by dizziness and chest pain. in general, my mid-section and throat hurts a lot from all the coughing.

**I've tried various medications, from over-the-counter cough and cold medicines, and even ones prescribed to me by my doctor, including Advair and Singulair for the "asthma", and amoxocillin for the sinus infections

I suffered the same thing, only it lasted for 15 years. Nothing helped. I just happened to see Dr. Oz on Oprah a few years ago showing how to use a neti pot. Did some on line research and got one. Within 2 days my cough cleared up and has not returned. Now understand this is only my experience, but it is worth a try. This is where I ordered the neti pot(it's stainless steel) plus a dvd comes with it: very helpful. http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/product/neti.html A plus,I haven't had a cold since I started using it......hope you try it.

Allegra D takes 7 days to really kick in. I got allergies bad 2 weeks ago and went to my doctor on a Wednesday, then it still wasn't working so I went back in Tuesday and the nurse said it would take until Wednesday or Thursday to fully kick in. It did, I could tell I was doing better on Wednesday morning. And you shouldn't eat with it, fatty food can make it less effective, so you have to take it on an empty stomach 1 hour before you eat or 2 hours after.

The only allergy pill that I havn't tried is Zyrtec. But I know a few people on it and they're still having bad allergies right now. This is the worst time of year. The best thing to do is stay on Allegra for 7 days until it's in your system. Benedryl does help, but it can make you sooooo tired. Maybe take it when you go to bed and you might feel better in the morning.

Just remember Allegra-D already had pseudophed (the decongestant that dries up your sinus's) in it. Don't take anything else with a decongestant, it could make you worse.

Can I take "Cimetidine 400MG" for a sinus infection?
A while ago I had a viral infection on my foot from playing soccer..I still have some left over because it cleaned up before the medication ran out.

NOW I have a sinus infection, It says on the bottle:

TAKE ONE TABLET BY MOUTH THREE TIMES DAILY FOR VIRAL INFECTION

Will this cure my sinus infection?

Thank you soooo much!

I had no idea that Tagamet could be used to treat viral infections. It is sold over the counter for GERD.

Although a sinus affliction may have been brought on by virus, doubtful the infection is viral but rather bacterial and would more than likely not respond to an antiviral medication.

As a nurse, I would say no. But as a consumer, I would say why not try it.....you have nothing to lose.

Can also try a Netty Pot, which rinses the infection out of the sinuses. And do take an antihistamine to help dry out sinuses. I also breathe steam from a pot boiling on the stove. This will help to loosen mucous accumulated in the sinuses.

I was told by a doctor many years ago in response to a sinus infection, to take a little salt water, put it in the palm of your hand, and plug one nostril. Use the other nostril to snort up the salt water in the palm, then blow it back out (over the sink). Repeat with other nostril. do this several times, and repeat several times a day. This will also help to rinse nostrils, but not as good as the Netty Pot.

Hope you feel better.....

Sinus pressure, can't sleep, now what?
Last night I only got 4 hours of sleep due to sinus pressure and a sore throat (from drainage). The sinus pressure had been and still is as bad as it was. I take Zyrtec-D (cetirizine? and pseudoephedrine) twice daily because it lasts 12 hours, and I use Flonase once daily (two sprays in each nostril). I use a neti pot almost daily. I just tried using it and the water would barely get through from one side. Also, I have been able to blow my nose, and the snot is light yellow, and I've been coughing a bit today (which just aggravated my throat even more, but cough drops helped). What else can I do? I want to sleep, and I want the sinus pressure to at least lessen a little bit.

Its really fine. In fact, you can take 3 ibuprofen with one extra strength Tylenol, or Medication containing it. Only do this for a very short amount of time, as it can cause liver damage. It has a non narcotic effect on the pain, and I use it very often with hydrocodone with Tylenol.

How can I get rid of my common cold in a week + prevent getting one?
I have a common cold and have had one for two weeks. I have been to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and said I had a nose infection. My cold isn't getting any better. I still have a cough, stuffy nose and I have had 8 blood noses in four days. I have a really bad immune system as I've already had seven colds this year. Vitamin C only gives me a cold. I wash my hands very frequently. I'm going to Italy in 7 days and would really like my cold to go before then so I can feel my best. How can I get rid of it?
Also, everybody around me has colds, including my mum so I really need to prevent getting a cold when I get rid of it. How can I prevent getting another one? Thank-you for all your help. Molly.

Which over the counter medications or allergy medications can make a drug test, test positive for marijuana?
I was really sick and I took some Aleve (sinus and allergy); it contained some naproxen and I also took some advil that contained Ibuprofen. I also took some Robitussin. I took a drug test and they told me that I tested positive for marijuana; could any of these medications alter my drug test?

THC ,which is the chemical in marijuana that makes you high, is not in any of these formulations. THC is a chemical that attaches itself to the fat in your body and is detected for up to 30 days. Only if you have smoked a joint, eaten some "special brownies" or ingested marijuana, hashish or the like, in the last 30 days, a urine test come up positive for THC. If you haven't done any of those things...think hard now & be honest...then I would question the results. FYI: marijuana is an illegal substance whether you think it should be or not, that's the law. My friends have had a cold so I know that I'm getting one.

There is nothing in the world that will make a cold pass any faster. It is a virus, and your own immune system had to deal with it. The over the counter medications can help control most of the symptoms, but really you do best if you rest, drink and eat well. If you insist on going on full steam and burn the candle at both ends, you will just overtax the system and make it take longer to fight off. If you have the sore throat, that's your clue to drink lots of fluids. The moister you keep the throat the less sore it is. If you happen to stumble on a cure, let the rest of the world know. The pharmaceutical companies will beat a path to your door, and you will be a shoo in for the Nobel Prize in several categories. Meantime, buy the tissues with lotion, lots of juice and lots of soup, rent some good movies, get out your ratty, comfy pajamas, and settle in for a few days.

if it had pseudoephedrine as an ingredient (like Advil cold & sinus), then the product is still available.
Because of a change in US law, you have to sign for any product with pseudoephedrine in it. Just go up to the pharmacy window in the Wal-Mart and ask for it.
They will ask to see your id (you have to be 18 to buy it) and they will have you sign a little paper.

Can I snort pseudoephedrine?
I've got this Advil Cold & Sinus pill and it's really tempting me. I know I could just swallow it and get all decongested, but what about snorting it? The ibuprofen to pseudoephedrine ration is pretty high, but I think I can get higher.

Failing that, would it be better to swallow it whole or crush it and prepare an enema like with morphine sulfate?

It works a lot faster for me when I snort it.

Once I kinda "melted" it in a spoon that I heated up with a lighter, then put it into one of my insulin needles and injected it between my toes, but that took too long.

Is it okay to take Actifed Cold and Allergy with Advil Cold and Sinus?
Actifed C&A does not contain Pseudoephedrine. It's Chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine HCl, which is an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant, respectively. I read somewhere that this is the new reformulated Actifed (I'm guessing that it used to contain Pseudoephedrine).

Advil C&S --> Ibuprofen and Pseudoephedrine

I took Advil C&S around 10 P.M. and it should be taken every 4-6 hours. After 4 hours (2 A.M.), can I start taking Actifed? I've been taking Advil C&S every 4 hours since 10 P.M. last night, so I've been on it for a whole day. I'd like to switch to Actifed. The Advil took care of my muscle aches, but my nose is running like a waterfall. I'm plugging up my nostrils with tissue balls. The post-nasal drip is giving me a sore throat.

Also, since the Actifed does not contain Pseudoephedrine, would it have been okay to take them at the same time if I really had to? I was thinking that it wouldn't be such a good idea because both of them contain nasal decongestants, except one is phenylephrine HCl and the other is Pseudoephedrine.

Thanks in advance!

Yahoo is a risky place to take your health, but yes you can handle both drugs if you are an adult, but I wouldn't make a habit of it. No other pills for high blood pressure, beta blockers, arrythmia, anxiety or tranquilizers. You may get a little temporary prostate trouble, enlarged, or in an extreme case, bladder infection.

It's not a good idea to take medications on a regular basis unless by the advice of your doctor. You could develop an immunity to both products. Many over-the-counter products counter act each other or create harmful side effects. I take 5 prescription meds and I'm not permitted to use anything like Aleve, aspirin, etc.; only Tylenol. Benedryl is a fairly safe drug and I can take that, but you are not using it for it's intended purpose. Should you get a bee sting and and have an allergic reaction, the benedryl may not work as well anymore. Leave the prescribing of meds -- over the counter or otherwise, to the doctors and pharmacists.

david covered most of the different symptoms ,fevers, Sickness , are some of the differences, another is every Bone in you body aches, ive just spoken to my doctor on phone as i have a really bad strain of flu right now and have developed a serious lung infection and am having difficulty breathing, fevers, been seeing visual distortions and everything, also was coughing and chucking up for about 48 hours.

Another bad sign is that i wasnt able to pee for the first 3 days, it didnt matter how much water i drank and kept down, i was that dehydrated.

You know when you have the proper flu, on tuesday, i wasn't able to walk without snacking my head into wall or tripping over stuff, i was almost incapacitated and drifting in and out of consciousness.

Doctors talk about a £10 dollar/pound note test, they say if u drop a note in front of someone with flu they wont be able to pick it up, but as i'm a Scotsman, i would need to have 2 broken arms to stop me picking up the note.

They tell u theres no treatment, but i was having fevers and coughing till threw up even this morning, doctor was about as usefull as a used peice of toilet tissue, so i made up my own meds, have stopped couching, managed to drink 4 litres of water and even eat and i havent thrown up since i took the mix.

Nasacort! I woke up shaking, feeling very hot and naucious last night after sleeping for an hour.?
My room was cool and i wasnt under heavy blankets, and i wasnt sweating. i had taken my Nasacort AQ nasal spray at 10:30 and woke up nausious with the chills at 11:45. this progressed to the strangest headache and i felt super hot but my temperature was very normal and my parents said i felt fine. but it felt like a sorta sinus headache and my temples were burning on the inside of my head. after 35-45 min the chills went away and so did the nausea, but the burning inside my head and the sinus-like headache remained on and off and i finally fell back asleep by 2:30. i woke up this morning with a headache.....what happened?? this didnt happen when i was taking the Nasacort a few weeks ago

what happened to me??? i was soooo soooo sooo scared
i dont suffer from migraines, can we take into consideration that i might have some sort of sinus problem that is undiagnosed? ive had 2 sinus infections since sept, and more headaches than i ever had....if i used to get like 7-8 a year, now i get like 4-5 a month....and some of them are regular headaches, others are sinus headaches.

It seems unlikely that Nasacort caused this. I went through the prescribing information for it, and there are no side effects mentioned such as the ones you experienced. Most of the time, people who have any adverse reaction at all may have a slightly clogged nose for a few mintues; some people also get a slight "raw" feeling in the throat from time to time, but certainly nothing like nausea or the headache or odd temperature sensations you report.

One thing you should be clear about when taking Nasacort, Nasonex, Flonase, or any similar topical corticosteroid is that it should be used EVERY DAY, regardless of whether or not you are experiencing symptoms. If it's working properly, it is almost as though your allergies have simply evaporated. The reasons for that are a little complex to go into here, but that's how most people feel who use these products.

Given your nausea and the chills you experiened, I would have to ask if you are subject to migraine headaches, or cluster headaches. Nausea is a common complaint with migraines. In any case, if the problem continues, you should see your doctor.

Thyroid - Chronic allergies/sinus - Please help !!?
I have developled bad allergies/sinus/post nasal drip the past few weeks, which is not helping my enlarged thyroid. My nose has been severly plugged, I've tried nasal irrigation which only makes my ears pop and my nostrils swell worse, I cannot get any air through my nostrils.
My throat fills with phlyem real bad, feels like my throat/mouth always has honey, makes it hard to breathe, with an enlarged thyroid. I constantly clear my throat of thick white phlyem all day long. I have been prescribed Zyrtec, Loratadine, Singulair, Allegra D, Flunisolide, Guaifensen, they do not work. I've tried Benadryl allergy/sinus, Tylenol severe sinus, Nyquil, Afrin, they do not work. Vicks vapo rub worked for awhile. Nothing is working, I've been like this for a few weeks. Doctor, allergist or surgeon, is no help at all. My nostrils swells bad, so I breathe through my mouth. Feels like my thyroid is trapping phylem in my throat.
No sinus infection. Any advice appreciated.

are air filters required here?
Just about everyone I work with has been dealing sinus and respitory isses. I myself have had what seems to be a cold a that just won't go away.
I don't feel sick I just can't seem to stop hacking and blowing my nose and when I go outside for extended periods of time everything clears up.
I know the building I work in is very old and has no air filtration system. We also have a lot of dust and mice.

I am not sure what is the cause here so if anyone knows about the effects on air quality on health your help would be greatly appreciated. Also if I would like to know if air filters are required in some businesses in Pennslyvania.

These are potentially life-long and expensive to treat. Removing mold, dust, and rodents from a building requires more than an air filter. If you have to continue working there, is it possible for you to wear a mask? Can you find another job where the building is not a hazard to your health?

Air quality is very important for our health. I have asthma attacks when I'm exposed to diesel fumes, so I make a point of avoiding that. The best and easiest solution for you is to work in another environment. There is a possibility that increasing air circulation would help a bit, but the original problem would still be there. If you think that your work environment is making you sick, give OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) a call.

How do I manage severe pain - endometriosis, PCOS?
I usually take a combination of vicoprofen and Meclomen, which seems to work. However, I moved and have run out of medication. I don't have a doctor I can see - new patient appointmens aren't available until August. I have debilitating pain - any suggestions on how to handle it until I can see a doc? I've tried everything from hot baths to exercise, - I've done everything I can think of. Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, etc don't work at all. I need something that will stop pain for longer than 5 minutes. Any suggestions?
At this point I would consider finding a doctor that open prescribes just to get the medicine I need - I know that's wrong, but there are days when I can't even get out of bed in the morning and it's worse at night.
I've tried taking 4 advil every 4 hours, it upsets my stomach but doesn't even touch the pain. I've tried 2 advil and an aleve at the same time - not much help either. I've tried every combination of OTC pain medication that I can think of - nothing works. Maybe I'll try calling my old doc, hopefully he'll help me out!

call your old doctor, ask for a refill and have him call it in to Nationwide pharmacy like Walgreen's or Walmart.

or, call around hospitals where you now live and ask about a clinic near by. you will wait in the office for a doctor one day, but you don't have to choose a doctor.

I don't know if clinics have regulations on those types of pain medicine. They might, so try choice one first.

hormones go crazy when you're pregnant.
just see your doctor and if you really are worried get a blood test from the vein in your arm, they can easily tell you if your thyroid is doing what it's supposed to.
and if it's not, there are tons of medecations to try that will get you back on track.

NyQuil is my favorite for when I'm trying to get some rest. Drink tea for the throat, and use honey, I don't like lemon b/c it works against my dry throat b/c its so sour. Definitely chicken soup, and no the condensed kind, the $3 a can kind! Oh, and try to keep your nose lubricated, I usually use my Chapstic, b/c it really hurts after wiping it a thousand times. I hope you feel better!

bad sinus pressure and headache?
I have allergies and lately they must be really bad because I've been coughing a lot and am very congested. I am using the Omnaris that the doctor gave me and taking Zyrtec. My GP said it was allergies not a virus and to take a prescription called Singulair. However the pressure in my cheeks and face has become very uncomfortable and painful. Might I need antibiotics? Would they help the sinus congestion and inflammation?

Effects of lung inhalents on others?
I am currently using a nebulizer 3 times a day using a combination of Xopenex and Ipratropium Bromide. My wife says this stuff smells and bothers her sinus and eyes even though she may be in another room. She also says it smells. I of course don't smell anything nor does it bother me. Any one got any thoughts about this. By the way my wife has very sensitive sinus and graves disease (eye).

I agree with the other contributor that you should speak to your doctor but not to switch to MDI's. If your doctor thought that you should be on them you would already be using them. If your wife is that sensitive to the exhaled medication from your nebulizer ask your doctor to work with your home care company to get you a nebulizer that has a filter so that what you exhale is blown out into the filter and not directly into the room air. We use this type in the hospital for certain medications when the patient may have TB. This should lessen the effect on your wife and therefore your marriage. Ipratropium can cause trouble for people with glucoma and graves disease. Hopefully the homecare company will be able to comply quickly. Best of luck to you.

This won't answer all your question as their might be other OTC meds that do this, but I also cannot take alot of cold medicine. You need to look at the ingredients IN The cold medicine. One ingerdient you want to avoid is "Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride". It is used as a decongestant & if you already have BP problems, it can make your BP go sky high in a hurry with no warning. I can take Tylenol, (not sure about multisymptom, never checked the ingredients on it), Robitussin DM, (has to be the DM), Benadryl to name a few if I need them. Look for cold medicine that is OTC & for high BP, they are out there. I like Niquil Night Time also.

I also have to avoid, some herbs that seem to wire me up good, I took by mistake once not knowing what they were. Ephedra, kola nut, goto kola is 3 main ones I have to avoid that comes in energy drinks, diet pills & a few other things.

You can also ask a pharmacist to recommend something OTC for you to that goes with your BP med. I am on the same med as you are & these were my doctor's recommendations, but your doctor may have more/others also.

Not at the same time! Anaprox and Aleve have the same active ingredient, Naproxen Sodium. Taking those together can cause you to overdose!

Tylenol has acetaminophen, and I've been told by doctors that Acetaminophen and Naproxen Sodium can be taken together, but be careful and read the ingredients of other medications you might also be taking. Make sure they don't also contain one of these ingredients.

It's always best to read the labels and know the risks.

Pain at bottom left of rib, heart attack?
I'm having a little pain in my left arm, little pain between shoulder and heart, have a minor mitral valve prolapse, diet controlled diabetis, a bad cold, asthma flair up, and allergies, but no fever. I live way out in the country and don't feel bad enough to call 911 and don't feel good enough to drive into town. Should I worry or not worry? I'm a 51 yr old female. My 13 yr old doesn't drive of course. I'm hoping I'll feel better. I was at the ER twice this past week w/ prednisone in an IV, on antibiotics, taking musinex, been very tired, aerobid steroids, combivent inhaler, fomoteral inhaler, ativan for high blood pressure(Atenolol doesn't work) etc.
I went from coughing up green to clear to white phlem. I did have one streak of blood in the phlem.
The top of my head, forehead, and cheeks have pressure. Seems like it's a sinus infection type cold.

Experience with dofetilide, Tikosyn?

Did it maintain your sinus rhythm?

You're probably not going to find any answers here, but I'll try to help.

Tikosyn has been relatively new on the market compared to some of the more popular and historically used medications. The problem with Tikosyn is that it can ONLY be prescribed by physicians who have undergone specific training in the risks of treatment with it. Likewise, it is only available by mail order or through specially trained local pharmacies to individuals who are prescribed Tikosyn by a physician who is registered as being able to prescribe the pharmaceutical.

Most often, cardiologists will use another medication call Cordorone. It has been out for much longer, and typically doesn't have as many side effects. Did you ever try this one?

Your side effect of a fast heart rate is somewhat worrisome though, especially when a rhythm called "Torsades de pointes" can occur with the use of this drug.

I would discuss this with the doctor who prescribed the medication. He/she may want to consider using something else instead, especially if you're having such a rapid heart rate.

Best of luck!

Is it okay to take Levaquin with Glimepiride?
I am a type 2 diabetic and take a combination of Glimepiride and Metformin. I currently have a head and chest cold and went to a local clinic for treatment as I have a severe cough and sinus infection and my doctor is out of town until next week. The clinic doctor prescribed Levaquin which seems to be an antibiotic. I checked the Internet for information and the Levaquin website says not to take in conjunction with Glipizide or other types of these kinds of medicines. I'm not sure what to do.

Yes, Levaquin is an antibiotic. Is the prescribing doctor aware that you are on these other drugs ? If not, it's best to call him/her and ask if it's safe. If they do know about it and prescribed it anyway, it's very possible that the interactions between the two are only under certain conditions (i.e. renal failure) and therefore it's safe to use together if you don't meet certain criteria.

I checked them against each other in my interaction guide and it showed no interactions. But, always follow your doctors directions .

Here's an on-line interaction checker if you're interested....

Nothing is going to shorted the duration of the cold virus. The cold virus is self limiting and will resolve spontaneously. It shouldn't persist for longer than a week and the worst of the symptoms should peak after 24-36 hours. Get rest, push fluids and take paracetamol.

There is weak evidence that Echinacea might decrease the severity symptoms and weak evidence shows that Zinc may reduce the severity of the cold symptoms in children but none will have any effect on the duration of symptoms.

The evidence for echinacea and zinc is very weak, I wouldn't bother if I were you.

How can I ease this continous dry cough I have from sinus infection? It's miserable!?
I've been sick for 2 weeks and a few days ago I saw my doctor. I thought it was just really bad allergies. She said, yes, it's really bad allergies and I have a severe sinus infection on top of it. She put me on Amoxicillian 875 mg, twice per day, and 2 prescrption allergy meds, twice per day. I'm still dry coughing and I cannot stand it! I've been through just about all the cough syrups there is, plus Alka Seltzer Sinus and Allergy, Sudaphed PH, Drixoral, regular Alaverts, Delysm and everything I can think of and I'm SO sick of this cough. Is there anything I can honestly get relief by taking???? I'm so sick of cough drops that as soon as they tough my mouth I'm nauseated from them.
Does the apple cider and water thing really work?
Any other remedies you all may know of to calm this hack?
Also, I've already tried Benadryl and Max. Benadryl both, no luck for the cough relief department.
Wutz it worth 2 ya?

Help for Severe Sinus and Allergy relief???
My sister has had severe sinus and allergies for years, she has taken almost everything on the market, even shots from the Dr. but the shot is suppose to last 3 months, and she barely gets past 1-2 months. Like today, she did not sleep good, and gets sores below her nose it hurts so bad. She has to carry around a towel a lot. Any idea's from someone who knows what this is like and/or what might she try? Also how could I forget, " the headaches!!!", can't take asprin, advil, or anything that would upset your stomache.

  What your sister can do:

Avoid cigarette smoke and excess dust.

Drink plenty of fluids to thin mucus.

Use a humidifier or cool-mist vaporizer to keep indoor air moist.

Place warm compresses on her face to help open up her sinuses.

Reduce congestion by inhaling eucalyptus-scented steam. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a pan of water. Heat to boiling and remove from the stove. Place a towel over her head and the pan and breathe in the steam through both nostrils. Blow her nose frequently.

Though there have been no major scientific studies conducted to support this theory, some experts believe spicy foods, such as horseradish, Japanese wasabi, garlic, or cayenne pepper, may help clear out congested sinuses.

Supplements can be used to help clear up an acute sinus infection, even if you're on antibiotic drugs. The recommended vitamins and herbs are particularly valuable for people who have recurring sinus problems. None of these cause the side effects (such as dry mouth) that decongestants or other conventional medicines prescribed for this condition do.

Vitaminc with bioflavonoids

Until symptoms disappear, the amino acid NAC (N-acetylcysteine) and an ephedra-free herbal decongestant can be very helpful in easing breathing and clearing nasal passages.

An anti-inflammatory supplement (bromelain) can be added to help reduce discomfort.

Washing the sinuses out with a saline solution that contains goldenseal may help the body combat viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

Oregano oil - diluted in certified organic extra virgin olive oil - may help the body fight with infection

Sounds like you have uncontrolled allergies that can possibly be causing some asthma. You are headed down the right path in consulting with either an allergist or immunologist. These professionals can perform simple skin or blood tests to determine if your symptoms are being caused by allergy, and if so to which allergens you are reacting. Based on the results, they will give you a 3 pronged course of action. First will be allergy control/avoidance, second will be immunotherapy (not done if food allergy is the cause), third will be medication. If you are experiencing asthma they will prescribe medications that will decrease the inflammation in your airways so that you can breathe easier. For example, I am allergic to dust mites, if I am not controlling my allergies I am terribly ill. But, I follow the allergy control procedures for dust mite control (basically setting up a dust free bedroom with some bedding and washing in de-mite) and I rarely need medication.
Just for grins, I will give you a link about those nasty little microscopic creatures and a link to how to set up a dust mite allergy free bedroom so that you can see how simple it was for me to do and get well.
Good luck!

Bactrim DS is one of many brand names for a common antibiotic combination containing trimethoprim (TMP) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in a fixed combination at a 1:5 ratio, 160 mg TMP plus 800 mg SMX, which is what you have. One year old is not too old.

The DS form is taken every twelve hours (twice a day) regardless of weight. The usual duration of therapy is five to ten days, with seven being average.

This assumes that you know that you are not allergic to sulfa medications like Septra.

for sinus infection what is better -Sulfamethoxazole-tmp OR Cefixime - anyone with personal experience?
I have sulfamethoxazole-tmp prescribed for a sinus infection right now, and i have had cefixime before for a urinary tract infection. the cefixime worked wonders and i didn't experience any side effects. which is rare because i always get weird and get side effects when i am on antibiotics. I know that both of those work for sinus infection, and i was thinking that maybe i hsould just take cefixime since i know i am not allergic to it or anything, and there's always a chance with new antibiotics that you'll have a bad exprience. has any of you tried sulfamethoxazole-tmp? are there any side effects? please let me know, any info or personal experience can help. thank you.

Does this sound right that I get Cold Sores inside my mouth?
I am a 19 year old college female. As a college student I tend to find myself stressing out a lot, thinking this caused canker sores in my mouth often, like 2 sores per every 2 weeks. Over break, I made an appointment with my doctor. After examination, she said they aren't canker sores, but cold sores. She said it is related to when I was 6 months old and was diagnosed with herpes encephalitis. I fully recovered from that, but occasionally get seizures from that case, and now cold sores inside my mouth. She prescribed Famciclovir 1500mg at a sign of a break out, and Lidocaine Hydrochloride Oral Topical Solution(Viscous 2%) for temporary relief from the sores. Is this right that they are cold sores? I thought cold sores were fever blisters on the lip, outside the mouth?

Can a cold sore in your nose be contagious during oral sex?
The Cold Sore is inside my nose, which obviously wouldn't be touching anything on my boyfriend, but would the cold sore make my saliva contagious, or if i put it in my mouth, will i infect my boyfriend?

There is NOT a cold sore on my mouth or throat. I just dont know if it being inside my nose, away from being touched, could still be a problem.

First of all, I did not know you could get cold sores in your nose. How did that come about?

That being said, cold sores are herpes, and your nose, throat, and mouth are all connected. Fluids (snot) inside of your nose can run down your throat, which is right at the back of your mouth. And spit is all over your mouth, and moving around in your mouth when you perform oral. So, it's kinda gross, but I would think it is entirely possible.

There are also certain stages of when the herpes is contagious, however, I don't remember what they are at the moment. Look it up 'herpes' in Wikipedia.

I would avoid it. You don't want to take that chance, because I'm sure it's not fun to have genital herpes, and if he gets it and you stay together, you wil lend up having it, too. So definately please be cautious.

And I'm just saying that it's possible, your doctor can probably give you a way more correct answer than I can.

Good luck.

Could Xyzal be an addictive drug?
I've been on Xyzal (levocetrizine Dihydrochloride - 5 mg) tablets for a while, a year or so. I've noticed that each time the 30-day course ends, I can only survive for 7-10 days without it. I start to have sharp headaches and sinus pains, until I start taking a new course.

I was wondering, could it be a serious problem with my sinus or could I be addicted to Xyzal? IsXyzal classified as a non-addictive drug?

I have "joked" that I am addicted to Xyzal because when I forget to take it (like last night) I can tell as soon as I wake up. I don't believe that it is addictive. One of the symptoms of my allergies is headaches, migraines, and sinus problems which when I take Xyzal very rarely occur (it was because I was having what seemed to be allergy-triggered migraines that my doctor switched me from Allegra to Xyzal.) So my hunch is that you aren't addicted but rather that when you go off of it you start to get allergy symptoms. Although - I do wonder if my allergy symptoms feel worse when I don't take Xyzal - I'm not sure if that is the case or if it just makes me feel so much better that I forget my general normal not feeling well because of allergies.

Try this, it really works well. I use it to cure sinus infections.

I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

It's probably safe for a short while. He gave it to you because you didn't respond to the other two anitbiotics. Hope you feel better soon. : )
SIDE EFFECTS: Adverse effects of methylprednisolone depend on dose, duration and frequency of administration. *Short courses of methylprednisolone are usually well-tolerated with few, mild side effects.* Long term, high doses of methylprednisolone may produce predictable and potentially serious side effects. Whenever possible, the lowest effective doses of methylprednisolone should be used for the shortest length of time to minimize side effects. Alternate day dosing also can help reduce side effects.

You should do this under a doctor's care. You have too much going on.
What you can do is ask your pharmacist. They are so smart and helpful. Your pharmacist can see what meds you're on, and s/he will guide you correctly.

Good luck! :)
