What would be the children's ibuprofen dosage for an adult?
My daughter was sick with a fever, runny nose, sore throat etc. and I caught it from her. The only form of ibuprofen that I have at home is the children's kind. I have a ton of paper work to do tonight and can not go to bed or to the store. How many teaspoons of children's ibuprofen would an average adult need to help a fever?

Children's medicine and Asthma.?
Is there any reason that asthmatic children should take a certain type of children's medicine for fever and/or cold and cough? I'm sorry if the question seems a little confusing but my fiancee's daughter had a fever and he gave her advil, her mother calls saying that she can only take motrin because she's asthmatic. I know ibuprofen can cause allergic reactions and cause problems like asthma to flare, but ibuprofen is in many children's medicines for fevers and pain.

can I give children's musilex and ibuprofen or tylenol?
My 2 1/2 yr. is getting over the flu (body aches, low fever) she has a bad cough and is congested. I was told by a good friend that children's musilex works well for the cough, especially at night, but I was wondering if I could give that to her w/children's ibuprofen, or children's tylenol.

I haven't hearld of musilex, nor could I find any information when looking it up. Children's tylenol is usually very effective for lowering fevers. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist. They will be able to give you some better information.

What is the difference between "Children's Motrin" and "Children's Advil"?
When my children have had a fever the "Children's Motrin" very rarely brings down the fever, and I need to piggy back it with Tylenol. When I use the "Children's Advil" the fever starts to break in 20 min. with no Tylenol. They both are a form of Ibuprofen with the same mls.
Here where we are it is very hard to find the "Children's Advil" in any of the pharmacies or stores.

You are correct that Advil and Motrin are the same product, just different brands of the generic medicine ibuprofin. However, probably the same as with children’s Tylenol (acetominophen), there are different concentration in different preparations so that dosages are completely different depending on if you are using drops, suspensions, elixir or tablets. The most accurate way to determine the correct dose is by the milligrams, not by liquid measure such as teaspoon unless you are sure of the milligram content in the amount and type of liquid you are using.

But you sound well versed in the use of the medication and likely are giving the correct dose. So the next possibility is that separate episodes of illnes create different levels of illness and symptoms and each responds differently to medication and other forms of treating the illness. So an ear infection may respond differently to the medicine than the flu. There are other variables too, such as how well hydrated the child is, what other symptoms are present that the body is fighting, the length of time the symptoms have been present before the med is given, the level of immunity, etc.

You sound like an observant, attentive parent. Hope you all stay healthy!

Can I give equate children's ibuprofen /oral suspension, 100mg per 5ml/ to my child even it is FROZEN?
The ibuprofen was kept under - 30 degrees Celsius in the container during the shipment , and it is completely cold /it didn't get frozen/. But the package says to store it at room temperature. However, I can not throw it away because we are not able to find it in Mongolia. My daughter sent it from America to her sister because her sister has very bad headache all the time. Is it dangerous to use this ibuprofen for my child? Will it have negative effect on my child?

My son is on Vibramycin doxycycline calcium 7 mls every 12 hours. He has been on this medication since Wednes
My son is on Vibramycin doxycycline calcium 7 mls every 12 hours. He has been on this medication since Wednesday night, the first 7ml dose was given then. I also have him on the Vibramycin and 3tsp of the Children's Ibuprofen 100. But he is still spiking a fever of 102.8 or higher, he has now developed a running nose which he did not have the before, Wednesday the doctor stated that his lungs were clear, ears were fine, but I am getting a little worried because I can only keep his fever down for 8 hours which is the time frame for the Motrin. Also do I need to Refrigerate the Vibramycin Doxycycline calcium or not. I am getting a little concern with his fever still spiking after the Children's Ibuprofen 100 wears off. Also before his fever spikes up to 102.8 or higher he states he is tired and sleepy. He gets really weak, latharjeck and complains of a headache, I am concerned.

I would take him to the ER because of the fever. Your doctor should either change his medication or do some more testing because this is too long to be having a high temperature which is very dangerous.

Infants motrin dosage for 26lb 17 month old?
My mother just gave my son 1 teaspoon of infants ibuprofen because she confused the dosage with children's ibuprofen. So how much over did he take? What is the recommended dose for a 26lb 17 month old taking infants motrin? I called poison control already and they didn't seem worried, but I still am.

I have a 10 year old bedwetter. The pediatric urologist has prescribed Sanctura.?
From what I'm reading, it says it should not be given to children as adequate studies have not been done on its safety for children. Have any of you given this drug to your children? This happened once before with a drug she prescribed, and when I checked with my pediatrician, he said it's used all the time in children, and it's just a labeling requirement. Any feedback you can provide to me would be appreciated.

All I would like to say because i am not familiar with this either is that you should monitor your childs intake of fluids from the time he has supper until bedtime. Do not allow him to have sodas and juices and large amounts of water before he goes to sleep. If he goes to bed at 9 p.m. don't let him drink past 7:30 and tell him to use the bathroom before he goes to sleep. Practice this with him every night. I know it's more than just that but it can help, and will help in the future because unless there a medical condition, which there may be, this child needs a strict regiment on his intake of fluids every evening and I'll bet you see quick changes!

Young Adult Taking Children's Medicine Overdoes?
Right now I haven't been feeling so well.
I've been slow at thinking and my throat feels sore and I have a minor warm temperature. A bit above average.
I take a medicine for Children. Though the bottle says for ages 2-11 I just added 1 tbs more because my current age is 16.
Though the bottle does say do not give more than directed but the list of Ages and Doses says...

Age: 2-3 Dose: 1 tbs
Age: 4-5 Dose: 1 1/2 tbs
Age: 6-8 Dose: 2 tbs
Age: 9-10 Dose: 2 1/2 tbs
Age: 11 Dose: 3 tbs

...and it stops there.

Therefore I took 4 1/2 tbs.

The brand is called Children's Ibuprofen. The bottle says It's for aches and pains due to the common cold, flu, sore throat (which I have), head aches, and toooth aches.

So,
My question is will this affect me in anyway? Get me even more sick?

The side effects right now estimating 20 minuets after taking the doses is the my throat feels a bit drier though the pain of swallowing is gone and I'm able to think more clearly.

Gave my daughter the recommended dosage on the bottle. 1 tsp (5 ml) for 24-35 lbs. She has a toothache and I hate to see her in such discomfort. I guess I just want to show her on the clock (give or take) what time to look forward to. Thanks for your time.

ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis?
how likely is it that my children will have problems if my future husband has these diseases? should i not have children with him? he might not even live long enough to see them in college anyway. i don't know what to do. he always talking about having children with me in the future but i just dont know if it's a good idea.

There is a genetic link, but the risk to your future children is actually quite low. About 1 in 100 of the population have ulcerative colitis (UC). If you have a relative with the condition, this goes up to about 3 in 100 (3% chance). Even among identical twins (who share identical genes), where one twin has the disease, only 6% of the "normal" twins went on to develop the ulcerative colitis. Most people live reasonably normal lives with UC and surgery to remove the large bowel can cure the disease if it can't be managed with medication.
Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a much rarer disease, but people with colitis are known to be at higher risk. The outcome for this condition tends not to be so good, with most people developing liver failure after about 10 years and needing a liver transplant. The genetic risk of this condition for any future children would be very small but the disease itself and/or the implications of a liver transplant could possibly affect fertility. Hope this helps.

Son has high fever and other things?
My 8 yr old son has had a off and on fever for 3 days now. When he takes the children's Ibuprofen, it's goes down to normal but the second it is out of his system, it goes straight back up to 103.3. Each time he tells us he has a bad headache, there is the fever along with it. He has a hacking cough that almost sends him to the bathroom vomiting.

What should I do? We don't have a doctor down here yet because we just moved down here. Should I take him to the hospital?

Can I take Ibuprofen as needed if I'm also on a regular dose of diclofenac sodium?
Dr. prescribed Diclofenac Sodium (50 mg) twice a day to replace my Ibuprofen (800 mg), but sometimes I think I still need an extra pain relief. They both are anti inflammitory, but Diclofenac is not an NSAID, so I'm wondering if I can take an occasional ibuprofen if needed. I do sometimes take tylenol, but it doesn't help.

Diclofenac (marketed as Flector patch, Voltaren, Voltarol, Diclon, Dicloflex Difen, Difene, Cataflam, Pennsaid, Panamor, Rhumalgan, Modifenac, Abitren, Olfen, Voveran, Arthrotec, Dedolor, Deflamat and Zolterol, with various drug dose combinations) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) taken to reduce inflammation and as an analgesic reducing pain in conditions such as arthritis or acute injury.
To my knowledge it is a NSAID, as in Non- Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug.
However, you may need the 'time release' capsules rather than the normal capsules/pills. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take 75mgs of time release everyday and I can boost it up to two capsules when needed. I would not suggest taking any Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen (INN) (IPA: /ˌaɪbjuːˈpɹəʊfɛn/) (from the now outdated nomenclature iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) originally marketed as Brufen, and since then under various other trademarks, as that is also another NSAID!
You do not state what the problem is, so I cannot suggest any other drug. Best of Luck

I try to start with a low dose and only take more if needed. I would start with two (400mg) and then take one or two more if you're still in pain. It's not a good idea to take more than 800mg though.

Hope that helps.

Will children's motrin work for a teen(18)?
I just took some children's pain reliever liquid motrin in the hopes of helping reduce menstrual cramps--so will the motrin function correctly for a teen also, or is it specifically just for children?

Yes, it works just fine. Children's motrin is simply a lower dosage. You may need to take more to relieve your symtoms or you may be fine because you only need a low dosage for your cramps.

By the way, try a good flavored pudding to swallow your pills with. You can usually "hide" them in a big swallow and it goes down smoothly and taste good :)

Can I use Children's medicine? I ran out of Advil?

It's NOT liver poison! Childrens MOTRIN is just an ibuprofen syrup. Advil is a ibuprofen tablet.

There is 100mg of ibuprofen in 5mL of the mortin. So for every capsule of advil u would normally take, have 10mL of the syrup. So for example if you take 2 tablets, take 20mL. Make sure you have something in your stomach though, because it can be upsetting to the stomach. If you have taken Advil before with no problems, then childrens motrin should be ok for you.

Sleeping off migraines is often good to. So take your medicine, and then try lying in a dark , quiet room. Migraines can be draining- good luck!

Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.

There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.

It may disappear naturally too.

does tarceva radiation pill effecting surround children?
My father is under radiation & chemo treatment at home with medication name Tarceva - Head nurse in hospital informed us the medication is toxic, toilet is needed to flush twice after used.
Children should be away when the patient is under the treament.
Otherwise, very high percentage that the children will get the cancer when older - is it true. We will ask/consult with the doctor.

Tarceva is not a radiation pill. It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor which is an epidermal growth factor receptor. Put plainly it blocks the ports of certain receptors and will not let them grow. Tarceva is not for women who are pregnant. You should be fine around children but you may want to take precautions as the drug is systemic and may be excreted through sweat, saliva, etc.

Can someone please help me with a question about Midol and Ibuprofen?
Hi, I use medications with ibuprofen like Motrin and Advil to deal with cramps. However, I have recently noticed that I suffer from quite a bit of bloating also so I'm thinking about switching to Midol which is also supposed to help with bloat and fatigue. One thing I've noticed about Midol is that it does not use ibuprofen for pain relief, it uses something called Acetaminophen. Anyway I usually take 1 or 2 200 mg of ibuprofen to deal with the pain but Midol uses 500 mg of Acetaminophen for each gelcap. Does anyone know if the two drugs have equal pain relieving power? Thanks, your answers are much appreciated.
I did say I'm planning on switching to Midol not taking both and I've gone to Midol.com but I'm trying to find out if ibuprophen and acetaminophen have equal pain relieving power or do you have to take more or less.

Is it safe to give my 7 month old children's Tylenol rather then infants tylenol?
The only reason I ask is because my 7 month old already weighs 24lbs and that's the weight it starts at with the children's tylenol. Also if that's ok, is it also ok to give her children's motrin?

You have to make sure you read any and ALL directions VERY carefully. Children's Tylenol and Motrin are not concentrated- like the infant's varieties are, so dosing is very different and important to read.

Also, both Children's and Infant's Tylenol and Motrin are on recall now, so you will not be able to buy name brands- store brands of Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin (ibuprofen) are all that's available now.

You should see improvement in about 1/2 -1 hour of taking claritin (often even less) if its allergies. We use it and zyrtec-there are lots on the market-these two are good because they are non drowsy. Colds can go on seemingly forever in little kids. Why dont you take him back to the Dr for a checkup if youre worried? There is plenty of good advice about for managing allergies but the first step is to get a correct diagnosis from your Dr. You can make life unnecessarily difficult trying to manage 'allergies' that your son may not have.
Good luck-I hope he's better soon.

Can desoximetasone (topical creme, .25%) cause mood swings or agression in young children?
If you have a medical background or first hand experience in this... please answer; this was prescribed by a dermatologis for a 2 yr old of 36lbs. It is now my understanding that the creme is not soley for children, but adults, but allowed for use for children. I have since seen out of character mood swings and aggression in my child. I'm now wondering if his mood has been adversely affected by the side effects of this Corticosteroid.
is it the same as other steroids...?

How long do Keflex cephalexin , Ibuprofen, and Vicodin stay in your system?
I had my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago and was prescribed to take Keflex cephalexin (200mg) and Ibuprofen (400mg)every 6 hours for 5 days. I also took one Vicodin in place of Ibuprofen the first night. I have to take a drug test (urine) for employment reasons, and am wondering if I've been off of the medications long enough for them not to show up? (Will have been off Vicodin 10 days and other 2 5 days at time of test). I know if it does come up I can explain it, but I'd prefer for it to just come up clean. So how long does it take? Thank you.

Toxicology screens (drug testing) done on blood and urine specimens can reveal the presence of many chemicals and drugs in the body. The sensitivity depends upon the sensitivity of the test, the substance itself, when the substance was taken, and the testing laboratory. Blood tests are more likely to detect the presence of an abused substance than urine tests, however, urine drug screens are more frequently done. Opiates and narcotics are usually present in the urine 12 to 36 hours after the last use, depending on the amount used and the frequency. Central Nervous System stimulants such as cocaine can be detected in urine anywhere between 1 to 12 days, again depending in frequency of use. Central Nervous System depressants such as Valium and Xanax are detected up to 7 days after the last day of use, mostly depending on the substance used and how quickly it is eliminated by the body (half-life). Most hallucinogens are also detectable in the urine up to 7 days after the last use. However, cannabis can be detected up to 28 days in regular users. This is only a really rough guide and each person eliminates (gets rid of a substance) at different rates and many factors can influence a test result including how regularly the drug was used. It is impossible to predict whether or not a drug may be present in your bodily fluid or whether the test used will be sensitive enough to detect it.

Ibuprofen or Tylenol w/ Codeine for a tooth abscess?
The dentist prescribed 800mg Ibuprofen but I had already been taking that for a couple of days with no relief. I have Tylenol w/ Codeine and want to try it but don't want to waste time with something possibly less useful. Advice?

If the ibuprofen isn't working for you and if the Tylenol was originally YOUR prescription and if it's not a couple of years old, I'd say it's worth a try. Just take it according to the label directions. The new recommendation is to limit this to 8 tabs per day for a healthy adult, though.

How much ibuprofen can you take before it could start hurting you?
I've been sick lately and I've been taking tons. On the bottle it says take one every four hours, or two if one doesn't work. I take two, maybe three times a day, sometimes only one or two hours apart. I've only been taking them for about four days.

But right now my stomach is starting to hurt, and I'm wondering if it could be the ibuprofen?

You do not want to take medicine on an empty stomach unless instructed to by physician. Medicine usually has some sort of chemical or chemical reaction. It will injure the lining of your stomach if you have no food or nourishment in there. Plus ibuprofen and acetominaphin have to be filtered out of your body by your liver. your liver has no way of telling you if it is not functioning properly so If it is damaged you may have bigger problems. Make sure with any medication to drink plenty of fluids I recomend water or gatorade. This will not only help with your stomach lining. but also keep you hydrated.

If you're pregnant you should NOT take ibuprofen. It's not safe and puts you at risk for bleeding. Macrobid is not for pain it's for infection and you should be taking it regularly so the bacteria or infection does not become resistant and more severe. If you don't have tylenol you need to get some. You can use heating pads as well but ibuprofen is not safe in pregnancy.

What is the highest dose of ibuprofen a person can take at one time?
A nurse at the dentist's office told me to double up the recommended dose of ibuprofen for my jaw pain. Ive taken 6 tablets (which I thought were 100mg but were really 200mg).

So I've just taken 1200mg all at once about 15 minutes ago. Is that okay? What is the highest dose someone can take?

Once shouldn't hurt you, but don't take anymore for the next 24 hours. The highest recommended dosage is 800mg tablets three times a day. This would be the equivolent of four tablets of the OTC motrin or other ibuprofen brand three times a day.

The LD50 of ibuprofen is 636mg/kg. So you're not going to DIE.

I know Advil and Ibuprofen are the same thing. However, I've taken the same dosage of Ibuprofen as I would Advil and it had no effect. I have also done the same with Advil Liquid Gels and they too had no effect. Brown Advil tablets usually do the trick. Is there any particular reason why brown Advil only works?

PS. Please don't suggest to take Tylenol instead. It too does absolutely nothing.

Oxycodone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of oxycodone.

Tylox is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

Tylox may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Most books say that the typical approach is low dose acetaminophen (500-1000mg) per day which most texts say isn't too harmful, but that would probably assume you were not in the later stages. I hate to say it but in many cases I see narcotics being used such as a low acetaminophen hydrocodone combo. 10/325 or something like that to minimize the amount of tylenol. I have to say this but, opiate pain medications can be very addictive as I cannot suggest someone resort to that unless they are aware of the potential dangers if they aren't already. Oxycodone is not supposed to be harmful to the liver, or at least not that any research has found yet that I'm aware of. So, that is sometimes used if the dr. feels it is appropriate. I would assume that a plain oxycodone pill minus the tylenol would be the best bet if absolutely necessary. I guess it would all depend on what other health problems you have and what parts of your gastrointestinal system are most sensitive. Even the oxycodone while not particularly harmful to your liver can cause constipation and that probably wouldn't be real helpful if your friends liver is weak. It's really tough to find a pain med that is side-effect free... although exedrin has always worked wonders for me, tylenol and aspirin by themselves do nothing, but small doses of caffeine are added to dilates the blood vessels.

I have been making a list of herbal remedies that are safe and effective, and it seems that she may find an answer there. Ultimately, it is up to her doctor to decide what is best suited for your friends case. Try searching the links below and perhaps you may find some info she can discuss with her doctor there.

There is a link below where you can find a lot of storys from others. The first is a topic on pain meds, and the other is just the entrance to a forum of countless others dealing with this disease.

If you have a heart condition your pregnancy will be classified by the doctor as "high risk". High risk means you have one or more factors that could cause harm to you or your baby during pregnancy. This is not something to be scared of but rather a reassurance the doctor will take extra care of you and closely monitor your pregnancy. Having a disability does not mean you can't have kids. Because I do not know the severity of your condition you should talk to your doctor because he will be able to let you know exactly what your risks are. He will probably explain many options for how you can have a baby safely.

Oxycodone script refill?
I just got back from a major surgery on my arm a couple of weeks ago and was prescribed Oxycodone, they normally said they wouldn't put me on any kind of painkillers but I can't use any kind of aspirin or Ibuprofen because of the antiplatellet effect and I could bleed a lot easier.

Well now that is over and my counts are back to normal and I only had one refill for the oxycodone. The thing is neither aspirin nor the ibuprofen helps the pain that I still have. What are the chances I could get them to allow me to get another oxy script?

I really am tired of feeling like shit..

If the surgeon/physician has "released" you from his/her care, he/she will not refill your prescription. Or at least should not, according to federal law. Doing so will risk his/her license. If you had a followup visit and the doctor didn't schedule another one, you have probably been released.

You don't mention what type of major surgery you had on your arm, or what the surgery was for. Sometimes arm surgery can result in loss of range of motion, stiffness, and pain. And sometimes a Physical Therapist can help you with an exercise program to strengthen the arm, increase the range of motion, and even decrease the discomfort of shortened ligaments and tendons.

You should contact your physician's office to find out if you've been released. If not, you may appropriately ask for another prescription, perhaps in the smallest amount (i.e., 2.5 mg). You may also want to ask about a referral to Physical Therapy.

If you've been released, you may want to ask for another appointment and tell them you're having a lot of discomfort. Not every major surgery goes perfectly well, and there may be complications with yours. Ask the doctor how long you should expect to have this discomfort.

Many people have major surgery and end up dependent on oxycodone. My own brother was one of them. As another poster suggested, be careful with this situation!
