is the end result of taking ferrous gluconate the same as ferrous fumarate?
My mom just had a hysterectomy and was told to take ferrous gluconate iron supplements but she has ferrous fumarate iron supplements from before can she take those instead..i was looking up the difference and someone had said that the difference was ferrous fumarate was organic and didnt make you constipated and ferrous gluconate is not organic..if that is the only difference can she take ferrous fumarate instead of ferrous gluconate and what is the difference...do they do the same thing in the end?

Ferrous fumarate is equally good as ferrous gluconate and they are both organic.

Ferrous sulphate is a very common iron supplement but it is inorganic.

Organic iron is absorbed better than inorganic iron.

Ferrous fumarate is organic iron made from a plant source and can be used by the body more effectively and does not tend to cause constipation.

Ferrous gluconate is inorganic iron made from a rock source and that's why it tends to cause constipation in some folks. Also, the molecules are bound together very loosely and the iron can easily break free to bind with and destroy vitamin E.

Anemia: Ferrous Fumarate, Gluconate, or Sulfate?
I've been taking Ferrous Fumarate for the past couple months for anemia. Since then I've been having stomach aches/diarrhea almost daily and I feel nauseous nearly as often. I'm at the point that I want to stop taking it entirely. Would that be unwise? Could i switch to Ferrous Gluconate or Ferrous Sulfate? Which would be easiest on my stomach?

Ferrous gluconate is more easily absorbed. Typically though Iron supplements tend to constipate people.Did your doctor put you on the supplement? Do you know why you have Anemia? Some anemia's are not treated with iron supplements. Iron builds up in the body, you don't want to take it if you don't need to.

What is the difference between ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous sulfate?
I am anemic and have been for awhile. Despite 2 iron shots in the past month and taking 325mg of ferrous sulfate a day with calcium, my iron dropped. I am currently a 7.7 (I am not bleeding). Someone told me ferrous gluconate was better, but someone else told me that ferrous fumarate had more elemental iron. Whats the difference between the three?!?
Sorry! I am taking vitamin C! I just had a check up and I am now at a 9.3 serum iron level. Still low, but the Ferrous Sulfate seems to be working.

The difference is that ferrous fumerate and ferrous gluconate are organic iron which is absorbed much better than ferrous sulphate which is inorganic iron.

There are some elements that prevent iron assumption, elements like calcium and tannins in teas.
Do not take iron supplements with calcium it will inhibit its absorption.
Take calcium and iron supplements 1 or 2 hours apart
Always take iron with vitamin c or vitamin A on an empty stomach for high absorption
I did this and got my ferritin level from 4 to 18 in 1 month

Ferrous Fumarate 18mg vs. Ferrous Sulfate 325mg?
Hello. I need a little help. Well, I am very anemic so my doctor prescribed Ferrous Sulfte 325mg twice a day for me but silly husbanded washed my meds with his landry when he picked up the medication. I am still entittled to two more refills but had just picked up the sulfate. Am I am to get another refill asap or should I just try the over the counter untill my refill time is up? I was taking b complex 75 complete, which contains ferrous fumarate 18mg. But does anyone know if that is equally to ferrous sulfte 325mg? Need help!

what is the difference between ferrous fumarate and ferrous sulfate and how the body utilizes it?
I am working with post-gastric bypass patients who have a reduced amount of intestinal absorption due to the "bypass" of a section of their intesinal tract where iron is normally absorbed. I am trying to determine if one is better than the other for these people.

Ferrous sulfate is supposedly poorly absorbed distally in the intestines so it wouldn't be the better choice. Plus ferrous sulfate in the doses potentially needed for gastric bypass patients can be a GI tract irritant.

Ferrous fumerate or gluconate is better. Carbonyl iron as well as anything chelated too.

What's the difference between Ferrous sulfate and Ferrous gluconate?
I have been taking Iron as ferrous sulfate (which is otc) and I am about to finish it and have this other form of Iron (which was originally prescribed to my sister), so I want to know if they are too different or I could take it? (I usually don't auto medicate myself, thus the question) thanks.

What is the differance between Ferrous Gluconate and Ferrous Sulfate?
My doctor told me i was slightly deficient in iron and told me to take an iron supplement, preferably Fergon or A.K.A. Ferrous Gluconate. I found Ferrous Sulfate instead. Is there a difference that i should be concerned about? they are both a source of iron and both supposedly will do the job, but is there a reason my doctor wants me to take Fergon? Why can't i just Iron?!!!

Ferrous gluconate is organic and ferrous sulphate is inorganic.

Organic supplements are absorbed better than inorganic supplements so therefor ferrous gluconate is more effective than ferrous sulphate.

Ferrous Sulfate supplement - Is one that says, "Equivalent" to 325mg as good as one that actually is 325mg?
Doctor ordered me to take ferrous sulfate, 325mg, because of very low iron levels in my blood test. In researching which product to buy, I see some that say they HAVE 325mg of ferrous sulfate, and some that say they have (for example) "65mg Iron, Equivalent to 325mg ferrous sulfate.

Is there really a difference between the two, and is one better than the other for iron therapy?

Ferrous sulfate is an extremely oxidative form of iron, meaning it causes cell death when ingested. Many children die each year mistaking the tablets for candy. It's fairly harmless in adults but it does still cause cell damage especially to the liver if taken in high doses or for too long. Ferrous fumarate is a much safer and more tolerable form of iron to take but it can be harder to find. Your doc may be able to find it for you on his computer if you can't.

All minerals have to be bound or chelated to something for it to reach our cells. In this case iron is attached to a sulfate molecule 325mg in total, but the actual iron content (also known as elemental amount) is 65mg. Both the products you mention have the same amount of elemental iron in them. Hope this helps.

When do I start? Should I start day of my period? After? During? Does it matter? Is it more effective one way compared to another? I know once I take it I need to take it at the same time every day...

So if I had iron pills that said Ferrous Sulfate 325mg, but can't get a hold of them anymore, now I take Chelated Iron pills 29mg, is this a safe switch over?

Iron, Chelated (Circulatory) is a form of iron (ferrous gluconate) that’s usually well-absorbed by the body. In this formulation the iron is enhanced with vitamin C, calcium and a unique base of rose hips, mullein leaves, chickweed herb, thyme herb and yellow dock root.

Ferrous sulfate provides the iron needed by the body to produce red blood cells. It is used to treat or prevent iron-deficiency anemia, a condition that occurs when the body has too few red blood cells because of pregnancy, poor diet, excess bleeding, or other medical problems.

So they are basically the same.

this could just mean that she's anemic or has an iron deficiency - they may be gynecologists but I'm sure through the blood testing they must have found that her iron is low and that may be all that's to it . Though many have iron deficiencies b.c they are pregnant . But many may have excessive bleeding, (even if on periods which she may be too emberassed to say this), not a good diet with enough iron in it, etc.. so if she is pregnant, you may find out from her when she's ready to tell but this doesn't mean she's pregnant.

Does Ketotifen fumarate eye drops 0.025% overdose can cause glaucoma?
I use Ketotifen fumarate eye drops twice daily, 1 drop in each eye, but yesterday I put 3 drops in my right eye. Since then I'm scared that it might have caused glaucoma. I only had glaucoma once before when I used eye drops that contains Cortisone.

The development of elevated intraocular pressure (which can lead to glaucoma) is a known risk of steroids (such as Cortisone). Ketotifen fumarate (Zaditor or Alaway) is not in the steroid class of medications. Although there is no benefit to using this drop three times a day instead of twice a day (or using three drops instead of one), this will not result in an increased risk of glaucoma.

weight gaining shake dangerous?

Weight gainers are not anything special - just protein usually and creatine. I don't think that should be a problem or have any adverse effects, but I'd probably just go with a whey protein, that did NOT have creatine.

Is iron deficiency anemia can be treated just by taking iron supplements like ferrous sulfate?
At first, I felt pain on my stomach and suffer it for few days. I thought it's just an ordinary pain until i decided to see a doctor coz after few days i felt so much pain under my right ribs everytime i breath and when i lay down i can't breath. After the blood test we find out that i have anemia. My red blood cells are just 4.31 while the normal for a female is 4.5 - 5.1 and i also need more hemoglibon coz mine is just 8.7 while the normal for female is 12.3 - 14.3 and also hematocrit is 27.1 while the normal is 35.9 - 44.6. I did not go back to my doctor, instead i just take foods rich in iron and vitamins like ferrous sulfate.

you can bring back ur haemoglobin reading to the noral rate by taking iron supplemen or food reach in iron..
but sometimes they just do not work..because ur baody might be lack in vitamin c which is very important in iron absorbtion.
so, uve to take this supplementray also....vitamin k will also help...its important to have ur doctor monitor ur recovery..:)

I'm always amemic b'cos I have Ulcerative Colitis, Ferrous Sulphate makes me constipated wud Folic Acid b good
to take instead?
I have to go hospital every six months for an infusion of venofer (iron), one a week for six weeks.
The staff are so slow it adds to my distress, the infusion only takes 20 mins, but I'm there 4-6 hours and I can't bear to go through it again.
I also suffer from MSC and most of the nurses and other patients wear chemical fragrances, so it's a nightmare for me, plus the Hospital is too warm and stuffy!
Surely I could get my iron levels up some other way? I eats loads of vegetables, sprouts cabbage etc, apricots, liver.... My colitis is hardly ever in remission and I'm always either severely constipated or I have bad diarrhea, so I can't take Ferrous Sulphate because that makes me even more constipated.
I'm on 3 senna and 3 docusate daily, while these make me open my bowels every other day, they cause me severe tummy ache. I'm SO sick of being sick!
I also take 3 Azathioprine, 30mg Lansoprazol, Codliver Oil & Primrose Oil.
Would it be safe for me to take Folic Acid?

first thing is with this complicated history you need to see a professional naturopath alongside with whoelver else you're seeing medically.
The other thing would be look at the type of iron you've been taking. Iron sulphate is poorly absorbed, can destroy vitamin E in the body, and cause constipation and nausea. Instead, look at an iron chelate which has a better absorption and less or no side effects.
When taken with vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folate and some vitamin C it maximizes iron's absorption in the body. Having said that with ulcerative colitis, you're absorption is likely to be less anyway so that needs to be worked on simultaneously. Have you looked at Pure aloe vera juice and glutamine? they are very soothing for the bowel and help heal wounds along the gastrointestinal tract.
Get under supervision of a naturopath :) a good one :) good luck!

her lethargy is increasing and her urine output is decreasing. why would the md order the following med. i have to know the reason for each

epogen renagel

Kidney failure (casued by the diabetes) will cause the lethargy, confusion, and reduced urine output. Renagel is a medication to help treat kidney disease. Kidney disease ALSO causes anemia. Ferrous Sulfate would seems to be an iron supplement to help fight anemia.

It may ALSO be that the patient is experiencing Ketoacidosis. This is where the buildup of Ketones (caused by badly uncontrolled diabetes) causes the blood to turn acidic. Calcium Carbonate would seem to be an "anti-acid" to help reduce blood acidity.

Don't know about Folic Acid in this cae.
