GENERIC NAME: MEBENDAZOLE CHEWABLE TABLET - ORAL (meh-BEN-duh-zole)

BRAND NAME(S): Vermox

USES: Mebendazole is used to treat intestinal worm infections such as pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm.
Use of this drug for a condition that has been so prescribed by your health care professional.
This drug may also be used for worm infections elsewhere in the body (e.g., trichinosis). In these cases, it is usually taken more often and for a longer time.

HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by mouth and can be taken with or without food. It may be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed and mixed with food.Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. For treatment of pinworm infections, the medication is usually given as a single dose. If necessary, a second treatment may be given in a few weeks. For other types of common worm infections (e.g., roundworm, hookworm), take mebendazole by mouth for 3 days, usually twice a day in the morning and in the evening, or as directed by your doctor. If necessary, a second treatment may be given in a few weeks. For other types of infections, follow your doctor's directions. Your doctor may order you to take this medication more often than twice a day and for longer than 3 days.It is very important to continue taking this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: severe abdominal pain, easy bleeding/bruising, signs of serious infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), unusual/extreme tiredness, seizures, weakness, dark or pinkish urine, yellowing eyes/skin.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

PREVENT THEM RETURNING:
There should be this information on a booklet/information paper inside the box of medication. It should state the tablets when taken as prescribed will kill the parasites. No need for sugar/colon cleanse as sugar gives the parasites food so definitely don't do this! And a colon cleanse can be expensive and not necessary but may make you feel better, mentally that you have done it, and maybe a bit physically too, so up to you.
BUT......
the pamphlet and your doctor/pharmacist should have advised that YOU MUST VACUUM ALL FLOORS ESPECIALLY BEDROOMS, TO TREAT EVERY MEMBER OF YOUR HOUSE WITH THE SAME MEDICATION INCL. PETS, WASH ALL BEDDING AND CLOTHES WORN RECENTLY TO STOP ANY EGGS LAYING AROUND AND RE-ENTERING YOUR BODY AND THEREFORE GROWING INTO PARASITES AGAIN! ITS ANNOYING TO DO ALL THIS OF COURSE BUT ITS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM!

Goodluck :)

Itching and pain be gone! I found a solution to Anal Itch in the Bathroom Bidet Sprayers they use in Thailand. Every doctor will tell you that you need to clean but the key is you need to do it without irritating the skin. Difficult to accomplish when you have an itch that is just begging to be scratched. But cleaning with a water spray does just that and it is easy, convenient and no one need know what you are using it for. Toilet paper irritates the skin and the more you rub, the more you itch. I bought mine at http://www.bathroomsprayers.com and installed it myself. Check out; http://www.bathroomsprayers.com/info/mypage.php?page=20

Is Mebendazole really effective in killing all kinds of worms?
I am 22 years of age and I took 500mg of Mebendazole tablet, unfortunately, nothing happened and I still feel that there are worms in my stomach.

Should I take 2 tablets instead to effectively kill the worms? Please advise, any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mebendazole is used for the treatment of pinworms, roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and whipworms.

Oral dosage is 100 mg every 12 hours for 3 days, although sometimes the dosage is just one 500 mg dose, followed by another dose two weeks later if the infection has not cleared up. The dosage may differ depending on which type of worm someone is infected with.

yeah of course you will "poop out deadworms" that's how they will come out, mebendazole works by selectively inhibiting the synthesis of microtubules in parasitic worms this results in in the immobilization and death of the worns. if the side effects cease to exist then the worms are most likely gone. consult with your doctor after and conduct a fecal test to determine if there are any left.

it's a prescription so you need to go to the doctor.

sorry,

hope all turns out well.

How effective is one dose of Mebendazole 100mg tablets on pinworms?
My 3 year old has pinworms...uuuhhhh :( We took her to the doctor and she was prescribed one tablet of Mebendazole. I have been looking up all kinds of information on these nasty critters and I see that the dose needs to be repeated in 2 weeks. Is that necessary or precautionary? Will Lysol & Bleach kill these things? I know I need to wash her bedding...any advice would be helpful :)

My daughter got them daycare when she was three last year and the dr actually prescribed them for the entire family since they are so contagious and we ahd to wash all bedding in hot water and stuffed animals etc, and yes two weeks later we took our second dose and it has nothing to do with how clean your house is because i am a bleach freak and use it constanlty but the dr told us its really common just humans don't like think we could possibly have worms. good luck

Would a one time Mebendazole pill kill my tapeworm?
I found dried tapeworm segments in my stool and my doctor prescribed me a one time 100mg Mebendazole tablet and it's been 2 1/2 days since I took the pill. Would that be effective in killing the tapeworm or should I go back and get my doctor to prescribe me something else? I can feel it in my stomach, and it's irritating and gross.

I'm aware of mebendazole (small "m") being used to treat tapeworm infection. It's normally used for other helminth, yes, but not tapeworm. This is an unlabeled use. That means it's not one suggested by the manufacturer but that doesn't mean it won't work. A lot of drugs have unlabeled uses. Like low doses of aspirin used to help prevent blood clots when it was found to interfere with platelet aggregation. And how atropine sulfate, for dilating and paralyzing the pupil for eye examination, is also used to reduce oral secretions when the ophthalmic drops are used under the tongue. This drug was originally developed for other uses but these "side effects" were found to be useful as well. Megace was developed to relieve the symptoms of certain cancers and of AIDS as well as the effects of the treatments for these diseases and the side effect of increased appetite proved to be most beneficial as these conditions typically suppress the appetite and result in weight loss.

The single dose method is used for pinworms so it may also be a correct dosage for tapeworm as well. However, you should have another stool O & P to confirm the success of the drug.

Call the doctor. He will ask you some questions to see if he thinks she has worms. If he does he will give you one pill for her to take and they will pass.

What happens if you take vermox and don't have worms?
I saw what appeared to be worms in my stool and took Mebendazole(2 pills-vermox) imediatlly.

Those could have been worms or mucus linings.I was so freaked out i could not wait until i got lab results(7 days) so i took them right away.

Is there any danger if i took vermox, without having worms?

I feel dizzy and i kind have a rash on my face, but don't know if it's vermox fault, because i get them alot because of my acne.

several weeks ago i was diagnosed with parasites and i was prescribed mebendazole to treat ?
to treat it after about a week the syptoms stop showing and then suddenly they came back again (intense ithcing, red squiggly line across my foot) so i viaited another doctor and he is sending me to a dermatologist becuase my foot turned extremely black and i wanted a second opinion on this
it was not black all over it was black on the bottom in the middle and on the topright side (wherever the parasites went)

It is very important to not interrupt the cure. You must not stop taking the prescribed medicine, before the time interval your doctor prescribed to you. If you stopped at some point, then it's logical that the symptoms will come back, since all you did was to make the parasite resistant to that medicine.

And about your leg, it's best to wait for a dermatologist's opinion, though I'm pretty sure, that's connected with the parasites still being present in your body.
