I have been on Mirapex for a yr. and all of sudden have starting having cavities. Has anyone else had this?
My dentist thinks it is because it makes your mouth so dry. That is the only change I have made was taking the Mirapex.

Yes, dry mouth or "Xerostomia" is a very common cause for cavities :

Mirapex (pramipexole) and Sinamet (carbidopa/levodopa) would be pretty expensive because they are brand name drugs. You can surely see how a wal-mart brand of aspirin would cost less than Tylenol (T.M.).

You should be happy though. I doubt you really want to know the classes of drugs used (i know 3), butI checked out the Wal Mart $4 club that you spoke of and saw both Trihexyphenidyl and Benztropine there. Trihexyphenidyl is commonly used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's though, of course, you know there is no cure. Benztropine may be used in the early stage of the disease.

Both of these are prescription drugs; consult with your doctor and he will know which he considers right for you. Wal-Mart will supply you with drugs just as good as Mirapex without draining your pocket dry.

Best solution is to contact your pharmacist, and talk with your OB, and your neurologist.....Having a temporary return of your symptoms, (nine months) is a small price to pay for a child if you really want one....Immediately after birth return to medication and don't nurse your baby....You will need your motor skills to ensure safety of your infant......................

My Dr. has recommended that I come off as many of my medications as possible?
He does not write them and he did not want to pull me off of them because he was not the prescribing doctor. I am on Clonazepam.5mg 1daily, Geodon 80 mg twice daily, Metoprolol Succinate Er 50 mg daily, Wellbutrin 300mg daily, Topomax 50 mg twice daily,Mirapex .25mg at night, Rozerem 8mg at 6pm, Ambien CR 12.5 mg at bedtime, Nuvigil 250 mg 1 upon wake up, Sumatriptan Succinate 100mg 1-2 as needed. The conditions that I have are nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, Severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ,idiopathic narcolepsy , hypersomnia and sinus tachycardia. I get horrible almost debilitating pains in my legs and when I told my previous Dr. about it he said it was restless Leg syndrome , well I'm on the Mirapex and the pain just continues to get worse. Most of the time when I try to come off a medication the doctor's are unwilling to cooperate, any suggestions?

you may find it helpful to not switch doctors. i'm guessing that at minimum you have a psychiatrist for the PTSD, and depression, and parkinson's, a medical specialist for your narcolepsy and insomnia, an internist for your diabetes, a cardiologist for your heart problems, a neurologist for your migraines and epilepsy, i think i've got all of them.

you seem to have the misfortune of being diagnosed with problems that require specialists to treat. i'm having trouble figuring out your question - you say your doctor recommends that you come off as many of your medications as possible. that seems like a wise idea - eliminating the nuvigil, rozerem and ambien might just eliminate your narcolepsy and insomnia. it would make sense that the clonazepam could also be stopped as the amount you take is too small to have any therapuetic use. i can't discern if you take the mirapex for parkinsons or restless leg syndrome, or both. while i am not a doctor, it does make sense to eliminate the medications that aren't necessary.

so yes, one of your doctors was wise indeed to recommend eliminating some of your medication. but then at the end you say when you try to come off a medication the doctors are unwilling to cooperate. ....

it seems likely that when you stop taking the medications that are not health-sustaining, you will eliminate a lot of your problems, thus, eliminating the specialists, thus, eliminating the confusion surrounding your medication regime.

or maybe that's not it at all?

Besides mirapex what can be taken for restless leg syndrome?

Most of the time, restless leg syndrome is related to a mineral deficiency. Magnesium is most common, followed by iron and calcium.

Try supplementing with 250mg/d Magnesium citrate (or Mag. glycinate) for a week or so. If there's no change, you may want to ask your doc to test your iron levels.

Note: Supplementing with iron when there's no deficiency can cause problems on the long term, but almost anyone can supplement for a few weeks to a month with up to 20mg iron daily without much concern aside from potentially causing some constipation. (Provided, of course, that there's no underlying condition related to iron metabolism such as thallasemia or hemochromatosis.)

Who would you sue? Your Parkinsons' doctor, your mirapex doctor, the casino or all of the above?

To answer the question, no.

Most "sober" addicts I've known say that the first step to recovery is accepting responsibility for your actions.

It sounds like you're using the main things that would help Restless Legs, so if those aren't working, you may need to consult with a specialist. The only other thing I've ever heard of was a Homeopathic formula or two that were specifically for Restless Legs (I think they both had that in the name)... you should be able to find something like that in your local health food store. Good luck and I hope I helped!

I don't know what area you live in, but, type in Martindale Hubble in a search engine and you will find a site that will allow you to find lawyers and law firms by location, firm size, particular practice and so forth. Good luck. Make sure they don't ask for any money up front. Their fee should be based on whether you win anything or not and no more than a 1/3.

Anyone with experience with the drug Mirapex?
I'm just starting (titrate to 200mg), and it seems like the side effects listed by the manufacturer could be different for different people. So far I've been a little sleepy. Any thoughts or advice from your experience?

My doctor prescribed me Mirapex for Restless Leg Syndrome - is this safe to take with my Ambien?
I've really never liked taking medicines like this, but sometimes you get to the point where you breakdown and ask for help from your doctor. I'm a little worried about taking the two together, despite my doctor saying it was fine as long as it's taken responsibly.

Could you give me your experiences?

Has anyone dealt with severe hand tremors (called essential tremor)?
How do you manage when both hands shake? have you heard of any cures? Primidone is not working. The dr. said Mirapex is for Parkinson's and would not work for tremor. Life is becoming very difficult! Any suggestions would be welcome.

No wiseguys, please. This is a serious problem and needs serious answers, not jokes. There's nothing funny about not being able to use your hands.

Tremor is caused by a defficiency of dopamine that the brain produces. In Parkinson's Patients, the body's production of dopamine drops 80% or more. I know because I suffer from Parkinson's and have shaking like what you described. I take a combination of Carbidopa/Levodopa and Selegiline. These are to assist the brain's production and the body's retention of dopamine in the body, thereby reducing the effect of tremor. It does work.
